Hi John, this was a super informative video, thanks! An idea for a future video if you get antsy this winter: it'd be really helpful if you could supplement this with a video on how you decide when to go fishing (current/tides, wind speed/direction, water temp/time of year, proximity to a storm/"run-off" from land/water visibility, etc.)
I used navionics on my old phone at brooklyn marine parkway Bridge. The guy was nice enough to show me how it work. You John couldn't explain any better.
People always ask how to find fishing spots. I keep telling them I am not going to tell you no fisherman will but use google earth and google maps and all will be revealed. Appreciate the video Mr. Skinner and good luck this season.
Been doing almost exactly that. Go back years before I had a smart phone using a handheld gps & google earth. Don't worry, I'm not going to tell anybody I can tell exactly where you were at & never been there. I have been checking it out (online) for about 2 years now. My NJ butt is to lazy to drive out there. Maybe this winter , take a drive, check some spots & see if non resident parking is aloud. Forgot to mention, great vid as always.
I never understand people not liking a video. Whats not to like here..? Is it jealousy..? Even if you already do or knew this why would you not drop a like..? Anyway John, great vid as usual. Gave me some good ideas for some of the marks I fish. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the intel, John. I've used the free version of Navionics on my PC to search for new fishing grounds, but couldn't figure out how to get GPS coordinates. You've connected the dots for me. Now I just have to figure out how to get beach access to the Sound in the Huntington area.
Excellent video tips Mr. Skinner, you have given me some great uses for both things i have been using for quit some time. (both Navionics and of course Google earth)
Great instructional video. I have Google Earth but it doesn't have the tools like Google Earth Pro does, seems to be a big difference. I don't know if Pro costs to install but I may as well get it. Thanks for teaching!
As usual another great video. May I ass a suggestion that might enhance this a little. If you a deeper or t-pod you could also map/chart the area for depth and signs of life. With the deeper app you can download a map.
I've tried to find the Avionics App you use and can't seem to find it. I see it has a shortcut called USA but don't see it in the play store when I search on that or avionics app etc.
John, does depth of water where the rock sits another factor to consider? If so, is there a way to determine it beforehand? What is a good depth for blackfish?
Amazing video! Does anyone have info on how to get Google Earth Coordinates in right format on Mac? On Mac, standard display is degrees, Minutes, Seconds. Navionics/Boating GPS entry is Degrees, Decimal Minutes, and John seems to have his Google Earth calibrated properly.
Nice vid. Question. On the app. Wether you choose a rock or piece of open water. Will it also give you the depth of the water? What app do you use? Thanks!
It's worth the money for the full app. I use it to navigate a ton, and it shows wrecks and other cool stuff. You can however use it for free if you go to the web address on a PC.
@@Gmtail I do currently use the free version a lot when doing research. They do come in handy. I just had no idea you could us GPS coordinates to set pins. That is going to come in super handy!
This is not reliable , Try this coords 36•28'1.10 N - 25•22'4.30 that I used from Google earth . It takes you on land. Be aware if you guys using auto pilot or any other guidance in water this is not reliable. This can be fatal mistake if you lead your boat on rocks.

I'm sold on the app, just test drove it and love ❤️ it
Great video! Really shows how to set up for fishing before leaving the house. Something not many people think of.
Agreed! Putting the time in before can have a huge benefit!

I have used Google earth to look for fishing spots, never thought of using the GPS location to put into my fish finder. Great idea John!
Thanks for putting this together John!

Really helpful . Thanks a lot! Didn’t know where exactly to fish. Now thanks to this video I’ll know exactly where to go! 😁👍
Great introduction to prefishing via satellite! Nicely done
Awesome stuff!! Hello from Ireland! Gotta try that here!
Great video john
You’re a national treasure to new england fishermen!
Great tactics, very similar to e-scouting for hunting spots. That nav app is a great tip for cast lines.
Good tips, not very many videos like this on TH-cam.

Excellent job John! :)
Thanks!

Navionics is great. Use it all the time
Great explanation John

Navionics with a "N".

Brilliant. Thank you John
Great video, thanks John.
Nice tip👍
Great video , I was at your seminar at surf day last year when you went over this 👍
How do you find local fishing seminars? Sounds cool would love to check some out near me!
Please do a structure vid for striper or fluke in the future! Are they in any of your books?
Great idea John.. 👍👍

Curious to get your thoughts on proposed Striped Bass regulations for next year..
It can only help. I'm happy about it.

It gives you a depth range, so not overly useful.
This is how you find the fish
Jon what kind of Boat GPS do you Use?
Humminbird Helix 10

I grew up on that bay

The App is called "Navionics" and I got mine from the Apple app store.
MySuburbanHomestead Thank you very much for the clarification, man
The Navionics app that I found in the App Store as Boating in the title. Is this the correct app?
I think the new one is "boating, marine, and lakes".
Thanks John. I appreciate the clarification. Have a good weekend.
