The Cult performs "She Sells Sanctuary" at Pacific Beat Recordings in San Diego, California at a 91X X-session. Head to 91x.com for upcoming X-Sessions and details on how you can attend one.
One of my favorite songs, never get tired of hearing it. Billy Duffy is one of the most underappreciated guitarists in the past 30 or so years. Having seen this band several times, he's very tight live, and you can see his passion for music. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves for his guitar ability and talents.
I DISCOVERED the Cult when I was walking late at night along 1st Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and heard Music pouring out of some obscure night club, that isn't even there anymore, went in and joined about 20-30 people. Heard Sanctuary, heard Love. 10 feet away on the Dance Floor. HOOKED ever since. What a Gem to stumble on!
I Get Chills Every time I Listen To 80's Era Rock...I Had Just turned 18 In 1984 When The Big Hair And Makeup Bands Blew The Lid Off Of The Rock And Roll Scene.!!! Great Memories , Best Rock Ever..!!!
Great to see Ian crack out the lyric a lot closer to the original cut. They sound awesome. Something about his voice puts him right up there with the rock greats. It's the best "yeaheh" in the business...
this song is one of the best in existence. not often do you find the perfect song with perfect vocalist and incredible guitar lead playing that make one piece of musical magic.
WOW, I just watched the original video from...what? 1985 or so, and Ian still sound so much the same; I mean great. Great chords. Yes he did alter his vocals for this 91X version, but come on. Listen close and you can hear his pipes are still the same as 30 + years ago. Rock on guys. Pure gold.
Ian's voice sounds really good on this. They've dropped all their songs down a semitone to help, cause years of belting those hits out do a number on your vocal cords, but I think this is my favourite version of his phrasing and tone for this song.
+Felix .LeBlanc Yeah Tom Keifer is touring again and he dropped a few notes down, but still sounds great when he goes for those Cinderella notes! Glad to see our heroes still slaying dragons!
Oh this song! It just moves me.....and hard! I get in with this beat being laid down, listen deeply to the guitar riffs and the way they accent that undenying mind-mesmerizing voice. And there are my feelings, being belted out. Crazy how certain songs can do that.
There's that eternal term "under-rated" again. Good grief, what a subjective term. Thank you 91X for a great rock 'n roll recording of one of the greats.
I was looking for covers of this to listen to while I read something on a different website. Among the videos in the search there was this and I clicked it without paying any attention to the title (I just took a very short glance at the thumbnail, from which I figured some random dude would maka a voice cover) and switched the page in the screen. While I was reading the aformentioned thing I had my attention diverted from the text to the sound. I thought, wtf, that's one hell of a great cover. So amazed, ideed, I was, that I had to stop reading and pay attention to the video. Yet, it took me several seconds to realize it's not a cover. It makes sense, I thought while a bit disappointed that I haven't found anyone able to do such a great cover. I suppose youI just can't expect to find anything as good as the original. It was just awsome bc I realized how great quality this guys deliver. So much that you can tell there's something special about them, not biased by the admiration you have for the band, that is, even if they played anonymously people could really tell they're great, unlike many nowadays artists who could never prove themselves without back up audio, advertisement and gimmickry.
This is an exceptional recording of this song , very good work, heard a few live "Rosanne Barr" quality examples of this song from 5 -6 years ago. this is top quality.
There isn't a stereo in existence that can play this loud enough...
That riff has worn a groove in my brain over the years. My ears are fucked but I can still hear it.
These guys (Ian and Billy) belong in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Yes they do! And I'm gonna bet that soon they will be. It just takes the RHOF a little longer than the rest of us to catch on.
THE CULT SHOULD BE IN THE ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME :)
Billy Duffy is a BOSS. Unbelievably memorable opening riff.
One of my favorite songs, never get tired of hearing it. Billy Duffy is one of the most underappreciated guitarists in the past 30 or so years. Duffy is one of the underrated greats

The Cult is the ONLY band to change musical styles (from alternative to rock) and own in both.
Cult rocks. What a vibe!! :)
