Will played a big part. Asriel didn't really want you dead. He wanted you to stay. So his attacks were really about stalling and keeping you there longer. Also blending souls also blends their will. So Asriel was competing with every monster and the 6 humans who all wanted you to win. Sans is lazy because he is nihilistic. He knows just enough to know that anything he does doesn't matter since the timeline just keeps changing (you revert your save or start a new game). So normally he doesn't care. With the genocide route Sans can see that past that final door is a future nothing can fix. He knows If he doesn't do something it is ALL over. So he's fighting out of true desperation. In a world where emotion and will creates fighting power Sans is far deadlier than Asriel.

@@nota444tm2 sans doesn't understand what's going on. He doesn't really know how save files work or the like. He's researching things like a scientist on the inside so he's logiced out a lot. But he probably doesn't even know admit chara. To sans he can track timelines and knows they have been messed with and that you seem to understand far too much and be far too lucky to have gotten this far on one go. The rest is aguess. For example when he says "you look like you lost 5 times" he didn't get to experience any of that. To him you came up the first time and seem VERY frustrated and aware of what's going on. Basically sans knows very little but is extremely genre savvy. The only person that KNOWS the person behind the screen, the player, is Chara after reaching max level and destroying the world. And there arguments that can be made that even Chara is only speaking to Frisk who's also extremely powerful. The game, in the end had very little 4th wall breaking. Instead a lot of the mechanics we take for Out of Character mechanics is In Game Science.

However, sans winks sometimes when he hints at something you know, but he does not. In deltarune, he does not know kris, but saying that it was nice seeing him again, sans winks as he says that he is glad too, despite never meeting him. I remember sans breaking the 4th wall alot but i would be here forever.
Earthbound and the first two generations of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon made me cry. Also Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and a certain chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening had me literally bawling my eyes out. Play more games. Well made and heartwrenching stories are everywhere, it just take some time to find them. Try the ENTIRE Mother series if you can.

Undertale means a lot to me. When I first played it, I wasn’t in the best headspace, and it helped to see a good ending where nobody got hurt. I played it again last weekend, I’ve never played anything besides True Pacifist, and I never will. This song had me crying when I got to it, because I remember everything I was feeling then, and seeing it when I wasn’t doing badly really made me happy.... it gets better. Trust me.

I like both, they show both parts of reality, dark souls being the dark part, where theres no good ending without sacrifice, and undertale, who shows the good ending doesnt have to end in violence, one using a dark, dead world, and other a lightful, alive world

Azriel is my favourite character and this ending is by far the best in my book. Flowey Omega felt like you had unfinished business. The sans battle is very hard to do. It's really disheartening. This ending is the absolute ending. IMO.
Undertale has changed me in a way no other game, not even Link's Awakening or Dark Souls, has ever changed me before. Undertale brought a ray of happiness to my life, when I most needed it, even on my subsequent playthroughs. The True Pacifist route, which I have played over 30 times since the game's release, still puts me in a great mood after finishing it. Today, I intend on revisiting that route that once brought me so much happiness and comforting memories, and feeling them all over again. Thank you, Toby Fox for this absolute masterpiece of a video game. I cannot wait for Deltarune.

I like how Asriels internal conflict is told through the song. You have these softer, more gentle strings, and piano in the background that occasionally shine through, but it's primarily these more intense synthetic and guitar-esc noises. Similarly, Asriel the boy is still in there, but barely, having only the occasional moment to shine through between the Absolute God of Hyper-Death I mean, even the name shows the characters innocence. That's something a 13 y/o would call their OC, not an actual villain, because that's what he is - a kid trapped behind a villains exterior God I love this fight lmao

A few years ago, this game was my life. I related to asriel because I was going through some rough stuff and a whole unfiltered identity crisis while fighting to keep myself in reality. I remember the soundtrack impacted me so hard that I listened to it daily and eventually I started to listen to the unused tracks that later were posted. The story was (and still is) really interesting and it was my first experience with leimotifs. I wouldn't say that this game is the best one ever made. It has a lot of flaws now that I've experienced other games and other stories. But if one thing I can safely say is that it's timeless. Because no matter how far I go, the feeling is almost the same. I know Toby didn't really intended it to be like this, but this ost is one of the most iconic out there. When deltarune comes out fully, I will be playing it rather than watching gameplays like I used to. I want to experience it and immerse myself in that world of wonder, mystery and puns. Cheers Toby, thanks for making this.
I can’t even explain my first experience with this fight. It was during the summer so I was already in a good mood and I was so determined to beat Asriel that I sat there for 4 hours straight, just failing, and failing. This song grew on me during that time, it inspired me to keep going. I wanted to win for this theme. Honestly this is still my favorite boss fight ever in a game
When this game came out, I was in 4th grade (I know I'm young, whatever). I had a huge crush on this girl that was a huge undertale fan. I couldn't play it, but I never thought of looking it up and checking it out. She was basically your typical UT and FNAF fan, but she was just the most unique, funny, smart, amazing girl I've ever met. But I was an idiot that and there was a lot wrong with me. We were best friends, but I had anger issues that I couldn't control. Anyways, she got into a car crash and died, and I fell into a deep depression. After a couple years of ignoring my problems, I decided to go see a therapist. It helped a lot, and I get good grades now and I'm at happy as ever, but this game makes me tear up just thinking about those times. I miss her every moment, and I never got over her, but I will always remember her. I know I felt true love there. Nobody can tell me otherwise.
if there's one thing this game has taught us, then it is to stay determined. just you wait until death brings you back together, but until then, hope you'll live an incredible life and get over your depression (if it is possible)!
It's one of those songs that you can't hear and NOT tear up at least once. Undertale may not by my top game of all time, but man, is it good when it comes to music.
@@epiccrik4521 7 Human souls were the amount needed to basically become a god, and it's mentioned somewhere in the game that you'd need basically every monster soul in the underground to have the equivalent of just 1 human soul. Just the six human souls wasn't quite enough; but by taking every monster soul as well (except Napstablooks) it was enough power for Asriel to get his true form back.
@@lettuce963_ Napstablook mentions at the end (if you choose to go back and talk to everyone before leaving the underground) that there was a big flash of light that wanted to come inside his house, but he closed the blinds and stayed inside, effectively being the only Monster to not have their soul taken.

It's a game that breaks the fourth barrier a lot, filled to the brim with jokes and ends with the power of friendship, hopes and dreams saving the world. In paper, it sounds like it would be really hard to execute well without making the game sappy and annoying, but Toby finds away.
Undertale has been such an emotional train ride, especially the Asriel boss fight and the True Pacifist Ending. I'll never be able to forget how Undertale changed my life ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Each time that I hear the last 9 notes of this song I just feel sad, nostalgic and a little bit melancholic about how many time has passed since this game was planned, and released but that same feelings makes me think how Toby just came from nowhere being a no-one and today is one of the greatest indepiendient videogame developers and creator of the last decade. You know, whenever i think about a song that i'd say it represents Undertale, i usually think about 3 songs. To represent the characters and the feeling of family and nostalgia they bring, it's the titular song "Undertale" To represent the Genocide route and the consequences of our actions, clearly Megalovania. But whenever i think about a song that perfectly encapsulates Undertale's journey, the feeling that everything will pay off in the end, It's this exact combination of Hopes and Dreams + SAVE the world + Last Goodbye. It's such a beautiful song, that brings the DETERMINATION inside of you to flourish and inspire you to keep going. And while i still feel that... This song makes me a little sad too... specially on the piano parts, knowing that Toby himself played it. Because I know that nothing else like Undertale will exist (Deltarune does not count). Sure, something very similar will emerge one day, inspired by Undertale. But it won't be Undertale. This game essentially helped me grow up, to be more consious, to understand the consequences of my actions and to have more empathy for those around me. And this, in itself, is something no other game will do again, even Deltarune! Because i'm already more than i was before, thanks to this game. Thank you Undertale. You may not be the game with the best gameplay, nor the one with the most complex and intricate story, nor the one with the deepest characters in the world. But it is, certainly, the game i love the most.
I first picked up Undertale in 2019. It was the worst I've ever been in my life, but man did this change my life around. The pacifist route always got me so determined with pushing through and eventually it made me realize sometimes you have to be humble and take a step back. Then face your challenge head on. Eventually I made goals for my life, ended up finding my significant other and now I'm on another challenging path and here I find myself again filling myself with more determination. Thank you Toby for this amazing game and helping me get through so many tough spots throughout my life. Anytime I need more determination I'll keep coming to this song and he'll even replay it when I get some time to. Thanks again. I hope everyone else gets the help and determination they need.

ASRIEL DREEMURR: A hyperdeath God, more powerful than Sans, easily defeatable with 20 HP.

Undertale has changed me in a way no other game, not even Link's Awakening or Dark Souls, has ever changed me before. Undertale brought a ray of happiness to my life, when I most needed it, even on my subsequent playthroughs. The True Pacifist route, which I have played over 30 times since the game's release, still puts me in a great mood after finishing it.
Today, I intend on revisiting that route that once brought me so much happiness and comforting memories, and feeling them all over again. Thank you, Toby Fox for this absolute masterpiece of a video game. I cannot wait for Deltarune.

You have these softer, more gentle strings, and piano in the background that occasionally shine through, but it's primarily these more intense synthetic and guitar-esc noises.
Similarly, Asriel the boy is still in there, but barely, having only the occasional moment to shine through between the Absolute God of Hyper-Death
I mean, even the name shows the characters innocence. That's something a 13 y/o would call their OC, not an actual villain, because that's what he is - a kid trapped behind a villains exterior

A few years ago, this game was my life. I related to asriel because I was going through some rough stuff and a whole unfiltered identity crisis while fighting to keep myself in reality. I remember the soundtrack impacted me so hard that I listened to it daily and eventually I started to listen to the unused tracks that later were posted. The story was (and still is) really interesting and it was my first experience with leimotifs. I wouldn't say that this game is the best one ever made. It has a lot of flaws now that I've experienced other games and other stories. But if one thing I can safely say is that it's timeless. Because no matter how far I go, the feeling is almost the same. I know Toby didn't really intended it to be like this, but this ost is one of the most iconic out there. When deltarune comes out fully, I will be playing it rather than watching gameplays like I used to. I want to experience it and immerse myself in that world of wonder, mystery and puns.

I can’t even explain my first experience with this fight. It was during the summer so I was already in a good mood and I was so determined to beat Asriel that I sat there for 4 hours straight, just failing, and failing. This song grew on me during that time, it inspired me to keep going. I wanted to win for this theme. Honestly this is still my favorite boss fight ever in a game

When this game came out, I was in 4th grade (I know I'm young, whatever). I had a huge crush on this girl that was a huge undertale fan. I couldn't play it, but I never thought of looking it up and checking it out. She was basically your typical UT and FNAF fan, but she was just the most unique, funny, smart, amazing girl I've ever met. But I was an idiot that and there was a lot wrong with me. We were best friends, but I had anger issues that I couldn't control. Anyways, she got into a car crash and died, and I fell into a deep depression. After a couple years of ignoring my problems, I decided to go see a therapist. It helped a lot, and I get good grades now and I'm at happy as ever, but this game makes me tear up just thinking about those times. I miss her every moment, and I never got over her, but I will always remember her. I know I felt true love there. Nobody can tell me otherwise.
I'm sure what she would want from you right now as she is in the afterlife, is to be happy. I guarantee it bro. ☺😊

@@epiccrik4521 7 Human souls were the amount needed to basically become a god, and it's mentioned somewhere in the game that you'd need basically every monster soul in the underground to have the equivalent of just 1 human soul. Just the six human souls wasn't quite enough; but by taking every monster soul as well (except Napstablooks) it was enough power for Asriel to get his true form back.
@@lettuce963_ Napstablook mentions at the end (if you choose to go back and talk to everyone before leaving the underground) that there was a big flash of light that wanted to come inside his house, but he closed the blinds and stayed inside, effectively being the only Monster to not have their soul taken.

Toby wasn't expecting most people to like Undertale, and i can see what he means.
It's a game that breaks the fourth barrier a lot, filled to the brim with jokes and ends with the power of friendship, hopes and dreams saving the world.
In paper, it sounds like it would be really hard to execute well without making the game sappy and annoying, but Toby finds away.
Undertale has been such an emotional train ride, especially the Asriel boss fight and the True Pacifist Ending. I'll never be able to forget how Undertale changed my life ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

My only criticism was that the first part of last goodbye faded in a bit too early to keep the rhythm just right but otherwise this was perfect

A few days ago I replayed Undertale.
The memories of why this game was my favorite game of all time still after 5 years, fills me with *DETERMINATION*
i am NEVER, EVER going to relive that moment when i was 9, holding my baby cousin while playing undertale really late at night, and we high fived eachother over and over once i completed the asriel battle. and i will never relive any of the good memories undertale gave me to distract me from my horrid mental health.. like not even deltarune or my favorite fandom can patch any of that up. thank you, 9 year old me, for agreeing to learn how to tie shoes. for just 15 dollars, both you and my uncle gave me something priceless that ill carry with me forever.

You know, whenever i think about a song that i'd say it represents Undertale, i usually think about 3 songs.
To represent the characters and the feeling of family and nostalgia they bring, it's the titular song "Undertale"
To represent the Genocide route and the consequences of our actions, clearly Megalovania.
But whenever i think about a song that perfectly encapsulates Undertale's journey, the feeling that everything will pay off in the end, It's this exact combination of Hopes and Dreams + SAVE the world + Last Goodbye.
It's such a beautiful song, that brings the DETERMINATION inside of you to flourish and inspire you to keep going.
And while i still feel that... This song makes me a little sad too... specially on the piano parts, knowing that Toby himself played it.
Because I know that nothing else like Undertale will exist (Deltarune does not count).
Sure, something very similar will emerge one day, inspired by Undertale. But it won't be Undertale.
This game essentially helped me grow up, to be more consious, to understand the consequences of my actions and to have more empathy for those around me.
And this, in itself, is something no other game will do again, even Deltarune! Because i'm already more than i was before, thanks to this game.
Thank you Undertale.
You may not be the game with the best gameplay, nor the one with the most complex and intricate story, nor the one with the deepest characters in the world.
But it is, certainly, the game i love the most.

I first picked up Undertale in 2019. It was the worst I've ever been in my life, but man did this change my life around. The pacifist route always got me so determined with pushing through and eventually it made me realize sometimes you have to be humble and take a step back. Then face your challenge head on. Eventually I made goals for my life, ended up finding my significant other and now I'm on another challenging path and here I find myself again filling myself with more determination. Thank you Toby for this amazing game and helping me get through so many tough spots throughout my life. Anytime I need more determination I'll keep coming to this song and he'll even replay it when I get some time to. Thanks again. I hope everyone else gets the help and determination they need.
