What got me is that she walked into the house IN A HORROR GAME and left the front door, not only unlocked, but wide open. Then she walks up to the back gate and unbars it. "Maybe it will be useful later" for the monsters coming to tare you apart maybe!
One of the reasons I love watching her, she can and does give us a better understanding of the environment, even if subtitles translate it, she tries to read it herself as well.

And another, "I'm Mary, I'm inside the house". And then she answered the call once more, "I'm Mary, I'm right behind you." edit: I'm writing this while watching the game. Awesome video, Gab! To address some things that were sort of missed; I’m uncertain what exactly happened, but it’s implied within the notes that Master Kyubei, their father, was fed to Ayano by Kino. Kyubei became engrossed in the idea of returning his daughter back to her former human state by using a “Cocoon” to cure her “Princess Possession.” In her notes, Kino dislikes their father’s ideal, stating that Ayano is just as beautiful as ever. Following on the heels of Kyubei’s dive into his search for the “Cocoon” cure, he goes missing. In other notes, it is stated that Ayano can no longer recognize her father, having forgotten him seemingly completely. In yet another note, there is a description of a man who seems to somewhat resemble the same characteristics attributed to Kyubei… fed to Ayano, by Kino. In terms of what exactly happened to Ayano, she likely passed away on that cold mountain the same day or so that she was abandoned (considering everything about her was kept pristine, from her hair to her kimono). In the mountains of Japan, there’s numerous ayakashi (spirits), oni or akuma (demons), and kami (gods) that can be found. Take into consideration the red talismans and their stated purpose of warding off “demons.” They ward off Ayano, thereby stating her to be a demon. At some point from her last breaths to her return one month from abandonment (Nov. 23rd to Dec. 23rd), a demon likely found her and chose to revive her either to consume her body and claim it as their own, or to share a “home” with their host. aka share a body. They gain mutual benefit, revival and a physical form.) The “her/she” that Ayano refers to, the one who continues to eat her memories, is likely this very same demon.
Furthermore, I feel that choosing to “kill her” is the good ending for a multitude of reasons, or rather, perhaps siding with the father in place of Kino? I think that the “Cocoon” cure that Kyubei was searching for might have been what Minato found in place of Ayano’s body. Which means… there was never any way to bring back Ayano in a way that kept her alive… but considering that a “Cocoon” was associated with a cure to the “Princess Possession,” this ending likely set Ayano’s soul free from the clutches of the demon.
idk why but when he walked out the house and the lady was just eating that chicken raw I said "nah. nah, this ain't it." horror games don't usually get me but something about this one just snatched my soul. might be the fact that the main character is in a house made of paper

I watched you play the first ten minutes, but I want to play this game as well, so I had to stop so I wouldn't spoil it. Thank you for the video! I wanted to say that if you ever wanted to post a video that was like an "Introduction to Japanese" video (not like you teaching, unless you would want to, but giving tips and tricks that helped you to beginners who might like to study the language - where to start, a sort of direction to follow while studying it, etc.), I would absolutely LOVE that. By the way, this game is based on a Japanese folk tale. Ayano encountered an alien called konjiki hime in the mountains. According to an old Japanese legend, sericulture was brought to Japan by konjiki hime.

The vibes here are VERY Fatal Frame, for reasons other than just being Japanese horror. By the time I got to "Why did I let go of her hand?" I was 99% sure that there had to be some direct inspiration. I love it so much. Gonna add it to my wishlist when I get home.
SPOILER WARNING I was giving the benefit of the doubt on the Grandma for doing what she did like not going to the funeral 'cause maybe she had her reasons. Turns out she was just a b*tch 🤣
That feel when the scene first appears on screen, and Evelyn has played so many Japanese games on her channel that my first thought is, "Oh look, it's _those_ assets again." I admit, I hadn't even thought of the monster attacking Kinu, I thought it was the dam construction company trying to persuade her to abandon her property as cheaply as possible. 1:56:28 YAY IT'S BB! (END) That was a great story, ending either way. Thank you for sharing.
I watched this game on your last INDIE HORROR DAY stream video like 10 times already 😭 it’s SO GOOD!! I’ve been watching that whole video before bed almost every night since it came out, it’s comforting for me lol
Caught your most recent YT stream for this game! The story is really well written with Hollow Cocoon's other aspe, cts (Music, at, and all the many small details present through tthe gamemosphere, voice-acting, environmental design, all the many small details present through the game) are all winners in my book.
New to watching Gab's videos and after watching a good handful of them, I've noticed something kinda cute. Compared to Jacksepticeye/Sean, Gab is definitely more chill (not loud), but this video confirms that she definitely operates on a similar wavelength to Jack at times.
This game has me craving more Japanese horror! Can you please do a re-play of one of your favorite fatal frame games or something similar soon? I love watching you play those because you know them so well, I somehow feel less terrified, haha.
There are six endings that I know of kill, spare, restore her, Mary, Chicken Attack, Alien Abduction Spoiler: watch the video or go play the game first Kill Ending: Minato kills Ayano with the rock, Later he comes to Kinu's grave to say his final words and he did went back to get rid of Ayano's body but as Mayu's story said instead of a body there was a cocoon with silk worms in it. As he's leaving he sees Ayano in the distance and vows to live as a human. Also the Dam will be built. Spare Ending: Minato spares Ayano and becomes the Ayano's new caretaker replacing Kinu, he cuts of all his connection to other people and is slowly going senile. Also the Dam is not being built. Restore Ending: Minato finds a way to restore Ayano back to her human form and it works later Minato goes to greet a human Ayano who has emerged from her cocoon. It seems well at first but suddenly its revealed though Ayano now looks Human she still has her bloodlust and Attacks Minato. Mary Ending: This ending is before the main game begins, Minato finds a pink piece of paper with a heart and a number written in it her goes back to Kinu's house to dial the number and it essentially does the Mary phone call thing Garbage Dump swings, tobacco, the tower, entrance and lastly behind you you can actually go and find her in those first four places looking away and looking back will have her looking at you. Chicken Attack Ending: This again takes place before the main game, you kill all the chickens and then a giant chicken comes and kills you. Alien Abduction Ending: There is one hiding place with with another door on the back a strange on it there is some stuff you must do first but then if you hide in that place that door with the symbol on it will glow you go through it wearing your tin foil hat and Minato will find circles and then shouts he has found those Alien circles and it be great of their occult club and then an UFO comes and takes him away with Ayano waving him goodbye while also wearing a tin foil hat.
This story was so captivated I watched it all the way through in one sitting! So many questions though. (Spoilers if you haven't watched the video) What happened to Ayano in the mountain? Was there a demon there that infected her and somehow also impregnated her? Or did she simply duplicate herself. How come Yui never transformed like she did? And in the ending when you choose to kill Ayano, I expected she would've transformed into some kind of moth considering the cocoon but then you see her appearing entirely the same. So many questions!
These were exactly my questions haha! The only one I can kind of see is that maybe the spirit of the original princess who was buried possessed her? But it’s kind of tough luck since Kino was the awful one who deserved to be possessed lol! And yeah was Yui a demonic clone?? A demonic spawn?? Or did the grandpa sleep with Ayano before she disappeared? And yeah why did she appear exactly the same?!
@@stargirl7646 I can see that it could be the original princess! The grandfather definitely didn't sleep with her since he stated in one of the notes he's never as much as touched Ayano's fingertips. Never has to chance to get close to her. So other than a clone I have no clue! I wonder what the purpose of that would even be 🤔
When you choose to kill Ayano, she doesn’t turn into any butterfly or moth because, in an earlier part of the game, the main character has a dream of Yui explaining that when a silkworm cocoons it reproduces and dies not long after (as this is what they were bred my humans to do). Hope that helps!
@@wondermax8851 yeah but if you look up pictures the silkworm moth actually does have wings! It can’t really fly, but it does have them. That would have been a nice visual at the end to have the wings unfold behind her
I had noticed that the house in Hollow Cocoon looked REALLY familiar, even going down into the cave and stuff. A lot of the layout and some of the assets kept reminding me of SOME other game, but I couldn't place it. I just started watching Sean's vid for Jisatsu, and I realized it's more or less the same house. (It's most noticeable in the kitchen - both kitchens are detailed differently, but the layout is the same. You can see it in the sideboard, sink, and fridge.) They must have adjusted the same asset house. I think that is super nifty, I love that they each put their own spin on the house!
Such an impressive game! It's too scary for me to play myself but I enjoyed watching Gab play. Loved the lore, very well written with mysteries being slowly revealed. Sometimes indie games just blow you away with their quality.
Your horror game playthroughs are my favorite, and I definitely appreciate the insight you bring to Japanese things. Thanks for another banger. Also, the music during that boss fight was really really good!
If I had a nickel for every time a horror game had silkworms and their life cycle be used as a horror element, I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
All these games with story themes about siblings really get to me. I was bawling at the end for like ten minutes. Also reminded me of Fatal Frame (which also makes me cry).
Watching you play horror games is one of the only ways I can consume horror games, but when you don't know what's going to happen it's SO MUCH SCARIER. Took me several days to make it through this video lmao. But it was worth it! What a good game!!!
Managed to catch the stream for this, but wasn't able to watch the whole thing, so I'll definitely be going back and watching this. It's like a mix between Fatal Frame and Chilla's Art games, and I am here for it.
This was such an incredible experience and there is no one else I would rather watch play it. It was creepy, terrifying at times, interesting, mentally captivating, beautiful visually, and told a full story that had me captivated. What an amazing game.
Been hearing about this game a lot, excited to see you play as curious about it. Not even half way through, im cuddled up in bed in the dark and already scared 😂

I didn't want to watch anyone else play because I know you always translate more Japanese than the game does. It's also fun watching your excitement for Japanese stlye games and hearing about stories of your time living in Japan. Thank you for playing it! 😆🥰 PS: I really hope this eventually comes out on consoles. I would love to play the beginning house for myself. I don't have a PC. 😭

6:49 Y'all don't know how impressive that is! I tried like 10 times, could not get it in. In fact, I struggled just to make it to the last one. She did it on the first try! Damn!
I know Gab said the dam in the village and the clinic reminds her of Fatal Frame 2 and 3 but the silkworm? And the 'cacoon' in the title? Immediately makes me remembered about the game, Kuon
Same! That's what I was thinking too. Makes me wonder if the worm lady is the guy's mom that the grandma tried to resurrect with a weird ritual. Haven't finished watching yet. though.
This game is just too short. The ambience whether it's daylight or nighttime is really good. I understand this game resemblance fatal frame series, but my Lord I really do miss them. And Gab is none like others, watching those japanese gameplay by her are really enjoyable experience.
12:24 Reminds me of my Grandparents house in Sapporo. i feel emotional from how detailed this is and the sounds of summer and fall when my parents took me to visit them. It broke my heart that both my Grandparents got to see me graduate from medical school but a year afterwards they past away at the age of 97 and 98. These old traditional homes always humble me that so many of my family members were raised at my grandparents home.
I think this is the most ''Japanese'' Japanese horror game You have ever played. The devs got this down to a science HAHA. That is saying a lot, cause you've played many Japanese horror games. What a spooky game! Being stalked and chased always gets my adrenaline pumping lol I was surprised and intrigued by the story as it unfolded. What a shame that sometimes our worst enemies are the ones who claim to love us the most.
what a cool game, the visuals are nice and the story intriguing (though it is a bit too easy to piece things together early on). I wish they would build upon this world and dive more into the creature and the "she", I wish to know more about this affliction and what happened on the mountain.
It's nice seeing a newer game that does the stalker enemy well. She shows up just often enough to stay threatening, without over-impeding progression to the point of being annoying. EDIT: 2:00:06 "Forget it. This is way too gross. Who would would even think of doing something so disgusting?"
So many fatal frame 2 references. The legend of princess Mayu , the pain killers look like the meds in fatal frame and the other gabs noticed like the shed and dam.

The vibes here are VERY Fatal Frame, for reasons other than just being Japanese horror. By the time I got to "Why did I let go of her hand?" I was 99% sure that there had to be some direct inspiration. I love it so much. Gonna add it to my wishlist when I get home.
Gab + Japanese Horror Game = HAPPY ME!!
SPOILER WARNING
I was giving the benefit of the doubt on the Grandma for doing what she did like not going to the funeral 'cause maybe she had her reasons. Turns out she was just a b*tch 🤣
Kinu is literally worse than the butterfly demon chasing us lol
That feel when the scene first appears on screen, and Evelyn has played so many Japanese games on her channel that my first thought is, "Oh look, it's _those_ assets again." I admit, I hadn't even thought of the monster attacking Kinu, I thought it was the dam construction company trying to persuade her to abandon her property as cheaply as possible. 1:56:28 YAY IT'S BB! (END) That was a great story, ending either way. Thank you for sharing.
We need more indiedevelopers like the ones of this game to exist, such a breath of fresh air seeing a really good horror game
I watched this game on your last INDIE HORROR DAY stream video like 10 times already 😭 it’s SO GOOD!! I’ve been watching that whole video before bed almost every night since it came out, it’s comforting for me lol
AGREEEEEE
Gab is such a wonderful youtuber with the pacing of each video just to her mellow vibe 😊❤
Yeah she's the calm one, Jack/Sean is the more outgoing and in your face one.
39:51 in and bricking it. Anxiety through the roof. Gab's composure keeping me going
12:00 “are you taking off your shoes? DUDE. Well I guess I don’t have feet…” 😂
This game has me craving more Japanese horror! Can you please do a re-play of one of your favorite fatal frame games or something similar soon? I love watching you play those because you know them so well, I somehow feel less terrified, haha.
There are six endings that I know of kill, spare, restore her, Mary, Chicken Attack, Alien Abduction
Spoiler: watch the video or go play the game first
Kill Ending: Minato kills Ayano with the rock, Later he comes to Kinu's grave to say his final words and he did went back to get rid of Ayano's body but as Mayu's story said instead of a body there was a cocoon with silk worms in it.
Alien Abduction Ending: There is one hiding place with with another door on the back a strange on it there is some stuff you must do first but then if you hide in that place that door with the symbol on it will glow you go through it wearing your tin foil hat and Minato will find circles and then shouts he has found those Alien circles and it be great of their occult club and then an UFO comes and takes him away with Ayano waving him goodbye while also wearing a tin foil hat.
this is the first horror game in ages that actually had me anxious and a lil scurred, great find Gabs!!! ❤
Literally just finished watching the latest Chilla's art playthrough, was wondering what to watch next, thank you Gabs!
This story was so captivated I watched it all the way through in one sitting! So many questions though.
(Spoilers if you haven't watched the video)
What happened to Ayano in the mountain?
@@Leludar yeah not sure of the purpose! Other than being creepy lol
1:42:01 this is probably the the scariest things in a game I’ve seen in a long time, super well done!
I know this is supposed to be scary, but it’s hard not to think of a giant white walking raisin creeping around the house
everyone say thank you to gab for giving us hour-long videos this consistently 🙏🙏
The ‘yolo’ part got me 😂
I be saying the same thing when my anxiety is high but I need to push through it
Such an impressive game!
This playthrough was so much fun, and the game is stunning. It left me sad though. I felt so bad for Ayano.
If I had a nickel for every time a horror game had silkworms and their life cycle be used as a horror element, I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
I love how Gabs celebrates after the 10 yen game and then says, "why did I play that" lol
That was such a whirlwind of a game. The thrills the story the art! Chef's kiss
the atmosphere of this game reminds me of Resi 8! it’s so beautiful and spooky~ i love seeing all these fun new games with great potential
Yes!! I found and wishlisted this on Steam before it came out and I instantly thought, "...This seems like a Gab game!" So excited to watch you play!
Managed to catch the stream for this, but wasn't able to watch the whole thing, so I'll definitely be going back and watching this. It's like a mix between Fatal Frame and Chilla's Art games, and I am here for it.
So glad Gab got the game to be recorded and uploaded! I was hooke dwhen I watched the stream. Absolutely worth watching again. What an experience!
I wish more of this game took place outside. That looked so cool and would have had so much potential
I’m so glad Gab plays all the games I’m too chicken shit to play myself cause I still like watching them even if it’s while I’m hiding under the covers
YES!!!!!!
I waited for Gab to play this!
The story is very interesting
The sound effect for picking up an item is straight out of Fatal Frame! They're definitely inspired by it, what a great game! 😱
Yay, you decided to play this game. I'm so happy! I've been waiting for you to play since it came out. I didn't want to watch anyone else play because I know you always translate more Japanese than the game does. It's also fun watching your excitement for Japanese stlye games and hearing about stories of your time living in Japan. Thank you for playing it! 😆🥰
PS: I really hope this eventually comes out on consoles. I would love to play the beginning house for myself. I don't have a PC. 😭
How do you know when you found a comfort streamer? You put on one of the horror videos before bed 😂
I really enjoy watching gab play Japanese horror. I always feel like I get to enjoy and understand so much more story with gabs translations and understanding of the Japanese language! 💜
Haven't finished watching yet. though.
@@CeruleanSleepInCloud Finished the video; the story is sooo good! Definitely hoping for a sequel
Very well made and interesting, the steps to get to the house and uncover the mystery was well thought of.
I can't believe I knew the story about the Mary doll because it was one of the Ghost Stories episodes (the dubbed version specifically)💀
Anything Gab + Japanese = horrific educational experience! My fav! ❤
That was really, really good! The atmosphere, the story, and it was a pretty game. Nicely done! What a fun ride.
I think this is the most ''Japanese'' Japanese horror game You have ever played. The devs got this down to a science HAHA. That is saying a lot, cause you've played many Japanese horror games. I love the opening the most, absolutely beautiful. It's that calm before the storm, where you don't want to the calm to end lol.
this is one of my first video ive seen on this channel and i see that you play a bunch of horror games! looking forward to binge watching them, also thank you for translating to some of the Japanese words!!!
imagine being in an actual haunted house, being thrown around like a rag doll, and still rummaging around for dimes 😭🤣
What a cool game! Thank you so much for the discovery. The Fatal Frame/Kuon vibes were strong and I loved every second of it
Usually scary games don’t get me like this!! Had me holding my breath watching this 😖
What a spooky game!
A goodbye at the end of the video would give it a proper finale, because this was great!!!! But the end and the sudden cut leaves me needing something
Same haha!
It's nice seeing a newer game that does the stalker enemy well. She shows up just often enough to stay threatening, without over-impeding progression to the point of being annoying.
EDIT: 2:00:06 "Forget it. This is way too gross. Who would would even think of doing something so disgusting?"
"Giving me Siren vibes"
God... Imagine a high-budget Forbidden Siren remake with 1st person view, like Resident Evil 7... MY MONEY... TAKE IT.
So many fatal frame 2 references. The legend of princess Mayu , the pain killers look like the meds in fatal frame and the other gabs noticed like the shed and dam.
the sound effects when you're saving reminds me of siren when you're choosing the levels in the menu
I have never been so invested in a horror story as this
This game looks awesome! I might have to play it too.
I swear I LOVE the environment design, it's gorgeous!
I saw this live, but really love the edits so have to watch it again! Also this game was really good, so much nostalgia vibes!
When she said his voice is like butter I felt that BIG time. I am obsessed with VAs and would've loved to become one myself.
