Hi Pat, I have a feeling I know which one I'll like better but this time side by side may be more difficult. We got a lot of rain so my trees are loving it. Thanks for watching!
That's quite the harvest bounty you've got there!! Nice to see the progression of your trees over time. I've been looking into getting an Oro Negro and am still searching for a Jan Boyce. I also just up potted my Pollock. Thanks for the update!
Hi Neuro, I have a friend who has Oro, eventually going to get some bud wood from him and graft onto some of my trees. He hasn't tried it yet, hopefully they taste good. In the past you could call La Verne and have them ship to your local Lowes a Jan Boyce but not sure now with them being acquired by Everde. Good luck, if I find one I'll let you know. Thanks for watching!
@@AvocadoTalk Hey REM - I've watched a couple of TH-cam tastings of Oro Negro, and they all seemed to be pretty positive in terms of flavor and texture. One was a comparison with a Monroe. I can graft figs pretty well, but I've not tried grafting avocados yet. It seems like a more delicate process. Thanks for the tip on the Jan Boyce. I'll also give Pine Island Nursery in Florida a call on the Oro Negro,. Right now they are out of stock.
Great harvest, the joys of growing your own avocado trees. I have quite a few bacon avocados from both my bacon avocado trees this year. Thanks for sharing!
@ReEngineeredMemories Your Avocado Trees are looking great, can't wait to see how your avocado trees do next year. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!
Hi sheen, I currently don't have any flowers, congrats hopefully you get some fruit. Basic taste good and they should taste better as the season goes on. Thanks for watching!
We love our Bacons, but as you said when too long on the tree, the bottom begins to split. We began harvesting ours here east of San Diego in late October. You've got great looking fruit.
Hi Frank, there are some folks in SoCal that say they don't start to taste really good until January and February. For me they are good now. I should have tried one in October just to see because they looked ready at that time too. Thanks for watching!
Your avocados look amazing! Congrats! My first and only Zutano is on my tree and I have been waiting to pick it. It is probably ready but I want to wait as long as possible so it's at it's peak in flavor. Which do you like better Bacon or Zutano? I have bad news. The squirrels attacked my Carmen and stole two of my fruit. I was upset! It is war!!!! I ordered the squirrelinator and I hope to catch the little thieves. I'll keep you posted. Best of luck growing your avos.
Hi Sam, based on memories I think bacon is better but now that I have both side by side, I'll have to do a taste test. I thought by trimming and topping my trees that it would get the squirrels out but I can see them coming over from the neighbors and running back when I go down there. The battle is on, I need to get the trap too. Let me know how it works. Good luck and thanks for watching!
I saw you said the bacon is 3. How big was it when you planted it. Im in 92399 and we get fairly cold at 3000â elevation. But my neighbor has a nice 6â full bush avocado on exposed south hillside doing well. I havenât got a chance to see what variety it is yet.
My bacon started at just 2 feet tall and has been really productive. Also the seeds have made great rootstock. It's actually one of the tougher varieties that I have and produces my first set of fruit for the year. Some say get a mexicola but I would rather have the bacon. Just protect them when they are young, once the roots get established, it get easier.
too much water will split i noticed, i just finished my zutana, eating then since oct/nov, ,my bacon im still have afew on the tree, i noticed that they get way better as the season progresses
Hi Neal, I think it is good, smooth texture, creamy, light flavor and a little sweet. I've had some bad supermarket avocados and growing your own is always best. I recommend Bacon for people in colder climates, mine has been tough, no cold protection needed and handling the heat well also. Good option and for me very productive. This is the 3rd full year and I probably have over 50 fruit, cant beat that! Thanks for watching!
I have a Zutano that is about six years old. Last year at produced fruit, but it would only get to the size of a marble, turn black, and fall off. This year I have about 30 little avocados five which are about the size of my thumb and seem to be developing well. But some of the little marble size ones are starting to turn black and fall off as they did last year. I live up by Merced California, which is in the central valley. Any ideas what could be causing them to turn black and fall off?
Good harvest, thank you for sharing this video.
Hi Daniel, your place will be full of avocados too, going to be great in the coming years! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing REM. Looking forward to Zutano Vs Bacon taste test

Thanks for washing, good to see you on the team.

Nice, didnât know they could be ready this early. BTW, only variety of mine flowering now is Pinkerton. San Diego, zone 10a or b.

My Pinkerton is flowering heavily for me also right now in Riverside. I gotta say, I picked up this Pinkerton from Fallbrook just a few months back.

I'm done with both Zutano and Bacon, gave away a lot to family and friends. Getting closer to year round avocados all home grown. Thanks for watching!
Whatâs your opinion of the flavor and taste quality of the Bacons?

How hot is it there. Maybe a bit more water and some shade cloth. When the trees get big they can tolerate much more than the younger ones.
For me I added more water and used micro spray to moisten a larger area. When it's hot I've added extra water for my trees. Good luck!
@@SpYucaipaSoCalit has been between 94-106 degrees. I will try a more deep water and get a shade cloth! Thanks so muchð
