Congrats on the Stewart!! Hopefully my Stewart will produce next year. My tree's growth has been great over the last couple of years. My tree is about 4-5 years old, I think just behind yours. I look forward to the tasting day. I hope all is well with you and your family.
Wow, it has a lovely colour inside! It's one I think would probably do well in certain microclimates here in the UK, although sourcing a tree or scions is not going to be easy.
@@PeterEntwistle I can see this Stewart avocado doing ok where you are at. It is very cold hardy and has a good flavor too. Might be easier to get a scion and just graft it yourself.... Good luck!
@@ricardomercado308 they cycle through varieties at the big box stores, I've seen them come in at different times of year. Try local nurseries too. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Awesome to see Stewart! Iâve tried and failed multiple times with Bumb trees. My current tree too young to fruit. Looking forward to Stewart! I know you know you can eat the skin! I love the taste of Mexicola type skins. I have heard the Stewart is the best of all Mexicola types but I have no first hand experience
@@SVmathfarmer so far Stewart has been my favorite Mexican variety. It's been a struggle getting to this point, almost killed it. I fixed my watering problem and now it's good.
Thanks for this video. I've got my very first Stewart still hanging from the small tree / young tree in a 15 ga pot, in Anaheim. It is 1/2 black and 1/2 green. Should I wait until it is totally black to harvest it? Do the stems of avocados turn yellow - as one sign - as to when they should be picked? Have you heard anything like that? I harmed a couple of my Reeds as well as at least 1 Sharwil due to not staking them up. Consequently, they grew horizontally roughly 8 feet when just 2 feet off the ground. The trunks are just over 1 inch in diameter. I'm going to have to prune most of that horizontal growth off and allow other branches grow back vertically. Such a sad story.
@@ocneal mine was 3/4 black on the tree and the stem was turning yellow. After trying this one, I'm going to pick more, they are ready as of my area. I think yours might be ready to at this point. Let me know how it turns out. Congrats!
@@AvocadoTalk Thanks. It's very small, maybe 4-5 ounces, but it is in a pot. I have a Mexicola around somewhere, but I don't think it has any avocados on it. Does the Stewart have an earlier harvest than the Stewart? I'm unfamiliar with both. I do not have a Mexicola Grande. What other avocados have harvest dates from Nov-Feb, besides Fuerte, Bacon, and now, Stewart ?
@@Gardening4fun started to turn black on the tree starting from the top of the fruit. There was still a little green and after picking the whole thing turned black. It's possible you got a Mexicola. I've seen them labeled at the big box stores "Stewart Mexicola" which is confusing since they are 2 different varieties. Stewart is more pear shaped where as Mexicola is more round. Good luck!
@AvocadoTalk I have mexicola grande and it definitely a different tree. The Stewart I have had a loose seed, if I shock it sounded like a marble in there.
@@Gardening4fun my Mexicola Grande has a loose seed when I shake it. I do not have a Mexicola so can't tell you but I've seen pictures of Mexicola and they are smaller and more round. My Stewart has more of a neck.
Thanks for sharing your story and thoughts. I planted a small 5gal Stewart in healthy soil last fall and it has grown to 8ft tall in first year, so looking forward to fruit in next couple years for fall harvestingðĪ
What a beautiful colour. Would love to see a taste test of your Bacons if you get a chance.
