    Misha, could you maybe make some videos about tire pressures, how they affect understeer/oversteer, something about coilovers or adjustable shocks overall - how to adjust compression and rebound, how it affects cornering, understeer/oversteer, etc.? That car absolutely rips through the speedo! 60-120mph so many times, that is definitely a legit 600hp.
    Also the H&R ARB pairs have a relatively very stiff front one, which may actually be the main understeer culprit, possibly more so than the tyre pressures.
    To be fair to the guy, the pressure issue wasn't out of negligence, just been given bad advice

      First and foremost you can't just randomly throw mods at the car and expect them to work harmoniously. You have to know what you're doing, which effect which mod will have on the whole car / setup. For example with an ARB you might then have to adjust suspension and tire pressure.. or maybe it will not improve driving behavior at all. I have thrown out mods in the past, because they just don't work with the car or setup. Mods need to be an informed decision - they need to be planned and tested!

    • @Alexander-bk1se
      @Alexander-bk1se ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree on the anti roll bar. Only a few people understand that a stiffer anti roll bar gives less traction on that axle. It's nice to put a stiffer one on the back for more oversteer but still drivers preference.
      At yhe end the owner said he added the anti roll bars because of the car rolling. The car rolls more because of the lowering springs. If you lower a car and keeping the same spring rate the car will roll more. I am curious if this knowledge known by others.
      This is how the car manufacturers develop their products. If you lower the car the angles of the mcpherson will increase the distance from the rollcentre and the center of mass. If the rollcentre is equal as the center of mass the car will slide before warning the driver.

    great driving with the low pressures. i think something to mention is that not everyone will push the car as hard as Misha and it may seem "fine" to them for the driving they do.Given Misha has much more experience than even some who are regulars at the ring. When they ask Misha to drive their car, they are getting one of the best on the ring and their car will suffer the wear and tear of the ring that much more in his hands, this isn't a fault it is just a fact. Misha should not be the person testing the car to its breaking point, you can tell he does everything he can to respect the car and its owner, he's there to drive the car for pleasure not as the guinea pig . I 100% agree with the contract/agreement to be signed, dont need to leave things in questions if something goes wrong.

    If it was cold pressure it wasn't really 2 low cause they would reach higher pressure pretty fast with some heat in them. Think the understeer was mostly generated by the stiffer arb in the front together with lowering springs without changing the camber. Lowering springs can really have a bad effect on the geometry.

    probably should have cruised round for a lap and sorted out the pressures after being advised they were so low, typical hindsight etc (only superlight cars like caterhams run in the 20 psi range typically) that said pushing on and showing the behaviour probably will save some repeating the same mistake but wouldnt want to get involved in an incident on track once you have doubts on a cars track worthiness.

  • @tescolonggrain
    @tescolonggrain ปีที่แล้ว +3

    There's so much misinformation in these comments. And surprised by the blanket statement "never go below 30psi" like what?
    He's on semi slicks, he should be starting at like 26psi or 24psi, he will reach 32psi within 5mins.
    I run R888R and on my 1050kg car I have to start at 21psi and I will come back in, and after at least 5mins of waiting in traffic in the paddock before I reach my pit location, and check pressures - they are at 30-31psi, that means 33+ "in the moment" on track. Too much still.
    Road tires are different, but you can still reach 7psi gain during a hot lap. Only soft tires like PS4 are supposed to be running 38psi+ hot and that's to make up for the appalling soft sidewall.
    Semi slicks are usually 30-31 hot, 20-24 cold. I'm not entirely sure how much this changes when you apply it to a 45,000,000 tonne BMW but for "most" cars in my experience this is the case.

    • @LawrenceTimme
      @LawrenceTimme ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Big difference when the car weights so much more. You car at 1050kg will be fine on 20 odd psi. For a big chungus BMW like this it's not a great idea at all. Should do a lap on a higher pressure then take some out after they've warmed up.
      If you think about it that car is 60-70% heavier and had a very small side wall.

    • @tescolonggrain
      @tescolonggrain ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LawrenceTimme big chungus lmao. The guys on AD08Rs which are a borderline semi slick, very close to road tire. He prob shoulda started at 27/28 since the Ring is immediately fast but not very corner intensive for a short while, but even in this video you can see they've come up to near 30psi by the time he reaches the Swedish Cross and then after that I heard no more complaints, and very little tire squeal
      ...cos they weren't too low for long lol :x

  • @therollerkid
    @therollerkid ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yes, that car had rather low tire pressure, however saying never go below 30 as a general rule is wrong. The pressure depends on the car, the tire, on the conditions, on the fact that the wheels are hot after some laps or stone cold being the first lap. Most of the times I run federal fz-201 tires and the optimal pressure is around 1.9 bar when hot, which is about 28psi. But going out with them cold just for one slow warm up lap on a "small" 4km track gets them 0.4bar more pressure. So there are lots of factors to take into consideration. Also that car was understeery because yokohamas are crap tires for the most part. They also like to squeal for no apparent reason.

    Why would you go through the sacrifice of gutting the rear on a sedan to set up seats, but only install lowering springs instead of actual proper suspension?
    For the type of tire it is fine to underfill a bit but 22 psi?
    goes through the PITA to install sway bars on this platform but doesnt do camber plates... 600hp but no LSD

    Shame really as it’s seemed a very strong car let down on handling. Must admit I’m no expert on tyre pressures but I at least keep them between 30 - 36 psi depending on load for a daily driver never mind on track. What is the guide on pressures and correctly setting them for a newbie? 🤔

    Poor tyres. Even for recreational street riding, we’d adjust cold temps based on weather & conditions of the roads we’d ride on (not so much for Tyre wear since since we weren’t racing) & we’d change it them proactively since the contact patches are tiny.

  • @gogolglaus
    @gogolglaus ปีที่แล้ว +3

    22psi rear/24psi front cold and then 34 or 44 after a lap warm? That fits in my opinion (depends on what tyres), although I wouldn't start so low... after a lap you adjust of course. Which Yokohama tyres?

    • @TheNecavi
      @TheNecavi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      22/24 is even for cold tires ridiculously low... borderline unsafe. Better to start with 30 psi and take higher pressure when warm

    • @gogolglaus
      @gogolglaus ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheNecavi In general yes. Depends on the car and the tyres. For this Bimmer 340i definitely too low. At the end he said 25psi. I think he wasn't sure at all. You can start pretty low when you can do gentle warmup laps. But to hand it over to Misha for an immediate fast lap bad idea.

    Misha, can you recommend pressures for my car? This car is running 255 18s on the rear with over 600WHP, my M240i is running 245 18s with 460WHP and really struggles badly to get grip. I'm running Pilots PS5. I know I need to get an LSD, but the tyres light up way too easily.

      @@Niko-xz5lk Having a M240i with a build engine over 600whp I can tell that LSD does make a huge difference. Not that much on straight from a standstil. But rolling acceleration or coming on throttle out of a corner gives full grip. Front M4 LCA+TS removes that front vague feeling. Car is superb to drive. • @rubennabi
    @rubennabi ปีที่แล้ว

    The tire pressure isn’t the main problem here. You can see troughout the lap that the ‘way the car understeers’ remains the same when the tires get up to temperature. I’d guess its a wrong ride height and setup of caster angle 📐 that makes the rear so planted, the front isnt getting the chance to grip properly. Seems like its setup for stability. Great for highways, bad for turning.
