Hi Audrey! I was listening to this episode (again) and heard you talking about getting the plastic off of library books. IT'S EASY! I'm a librarian, and a library book hauler, so I can walk you through it. Hopefully all libraries do pretty much the same thing.
First you can cut the tape away from the book. Do that with all pieces (which are 2 on the front flap and 2 on the back, usually top and bottom).
After the tape is cut, take the entire piece off the book (jacket will be in the plastic).
Now for the possible difference: Our book jackets are covered in the plastic but you can just pull the plastic off. Usually it's folded over the top and bottom of the jacket cover. Sometimes it is taped, sometimes not.
Anyway, remove the jacket from the plastic and slap it back on the book.
What you do with the left over plastic is up to you. I usually bundle it up and let my cat attack it. Hope these semi-somewhat directions help.
Per your suggestion I read 'The Inheritance Games' and I LOVED it. I bought it and 'The Hawthorne Legacy,' and pre-ordered the last book in the trilogy. Thanks for enabling my book addiction!

I too am so extremely picky with buying used books, I don’t mind doing it but I need to see them in person so I can scrutinize the book! I know crazy book girl! 😂😂 with that being said I take very good care of my books and when I do sell them, booksellers are excited to see them.

Another great haul and just added many of these books to borrow from my library. We don't have any second hand book stores any where near where I live as they just aren't a common thing here and our libraries don't have book sales like the libraries do in the US. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous reading year ahead in 2022.
The order for the Ragnar Jonasson series are...
    Dark Iceland
    1. Snowblind (2015)
    2. Nightblind (2015)
    3. Blackout (2016)
    4. Rupture (2016)
    5. Whiteout (2017)
    6. Winterkill (2020)

    GREAT book haul Audrey!!
Be prepared to go back and grab more Michael Connelly books - he is fantastic! I saw someone else has recommended 'The Poet' to you and I second that, it's another great of his (also a series).
I recently bought 'Nightblind' thinking it was the second in the series - I'm going to have to go back and double check the order of everything now just to be sure.
I find that Nordic Noir especially is very hard to follow the right order in series as they seem to be published in English at different times and quite often out of sequence. They are also very dark and messed up a lot of the time so you are in for a treat!!
Happy reading, I look forward to hearing your thoughts when you get to reading them all. 😄📚🍿

If ever I wanted to go book shopping with someone followed by drinks discussing the purchases, you are number 1 on that list! I remember a video where you mentioned Rhineback. Have you ever been to the Golden Notebook in Woodstock and Inquiring Minds in Saugerties? Those are 2 of my favs plus the huge antique shop in Saugerties has some book gems too. I live in Brooklyn but bestie and I visit the Catskills like once or twice a year. She usually leaves me in the book stores though and continues going to other stores lol. And we always end up at Eary and Terrible in Woodstock cuz that bar is fabulous.

Hints for removing stickers and plastic wrap: Use a hairdryer on low to loosen the glue and peel slowly; while the hairdryer is on if necessary. Then use a white eraser and a glue eraser (available at craft stores or on Amazon) in rotation until the goo is gone. Actual Goo Gone and it's ilk are dangerous because they are usually oil based and if they get on the pages they'll stain. But if you feel that you can control it, it can help get the last of the residue off. Go slow in all these steps in order to avoid ripping anything.
Also since you like dark and messed up, and are interested in getting into Michael Connelly, read the The Poet, it's so good!

The book The Shining is so much better than the movie. It is so scary. The movie made it sound more like Jack is going crazy vs the hotel being haunted. The book is more the Hotel is the main cause of Jack’ s instability. Can’t believe you have never read it. It is sooo good and soooo scary. Read it when it first came out. Midnight in the garden of good and evil is a real good movie. Don't remember the plot much cause it's been over 2 decades since I watched it (back when Blockbuster existed 🤣) but I remember it being very atmospheric. The southern vibes with creepy stuff. I was young, I've seen so many movies since then I don't I'd feel the same if I re-watched now but back then it was pretty great

I’m so excited for the Norse thrillers! Loveee that genre.
Have you watched or heard of “The Hating Game”? It’s a movie with Lucy Hale from PLL. I don’t go for romances often but it made me think of you straight away. It’s about a 28 y/o NYC girl working in publishing and has to share the office with her nemesis, Josh something or other. It’s all you, girl, and Lucy does a great job, I think! The book is by Sally Thorne, I believe.
Also, I think you’re psyching yourself out on The Silence of the Lambs. It’s not nearly as dark and messed up as other things you’ve read. 😝
The Shining has parts that made my blood run cold and I’m a horror lover from birth. But overall, it’s a good read and I think you’ll like it. And also another Stephen king book I love is 11.22.63. Not scary at all and I listen to the audio continuously. It’s a time traveler book on the surface but so much more inside.
