Jason is still one of my absolute favorite players and probably my biggest influence growing up.. He could play anything. From Bach to Jazz to country to Yngwie.. a very eclectic player and on top of that an incredible composer. Wish We could’ve heard his ideas from the Raspberry Jams turned into a studio album like we did with Perpetual Burn coming from the ideas of the Blackberry Jams.

Best interview with Mark that I have seen in awhile. I may be wrong, but it seems like all the interviews with Mark from the past many years have been discussing albums, etc. but not a conversation between two guitar players. I got some good stuff out of this one. Thanks!

Imo, Jason Becker is the most gifted guitarist ever. He could play anything and was a master of every technique he turned his hand to. Importantly, he used that to make great music and memorable melodies. A true legend.

Modern rock guitar players, in my opinion, are missing one element and one experience.
The missing element is using the controls on the guitar and learning to ride the edge of breakup on an amplifier. That’s the sweet spot of the electric guitar. And even though most make their bread online, a live experience is a superior time. Music is a sacred language that is meant to be shared in fellowship.

@Pete Dog like I said in my previous comment, there's nothing about that type of production that appeals to me. There is a new form of cookie cutter smooth shred that does absolutely nothing for me other than technically impress me. I found it interesting how they attempt to meld pop and super shred with a song like abcdefg but the catchiness wore off halfway through the listen and turned into admiration for the playing but not the song.
You are the funniest guitar player and the best. You reached me at a neurotic level. And you can fucking play. Really play

I agree but also disagree about anyone being able to be amazing if they put in the time. Not everyone is gifted and born with that level of talent. Everyone's nervous system is different and your ability to play and especially play well depends on your DNA. That said, you have to put the time into practice.
Also you can write amazing songs, but you have to have connections and get breaks. I agree having the ability to write well, having a good ear for melody is key. But not everyone get the breaks or has the connections to make it big.
For sure. Not everyone that's talented makes it. But it's not as much about the connections you have as opposed to the determination to bring your music to the world. Being a good songwriter, a successful musician, and a great Guitarist are all separate skills and are definitely not mutually exclusive. Subscribe and join the madness
I know rhythm guitar is looked at by genre, but EVH has the overall best right hand. Hetfield has the best right hand for metal.

@@TheNeuroticGuitarist Changing the game. Unheard of chord progressions. Making Guthrie Govan sound pedestrian. He is just the next gen building off of the greats before him. Isn't he on 8 strings for some songs?
@Pete Dog I find his technique and playing great but incredibly boring. I think Guthrie Govan is much more musical and a better performer/Composer. At first listen polyphia is a wow experience but I have zero desire to ever listen to them. Same with Guthrie. Neither one have a single song I've ever Saif "man, I wish I could hear that." Both are technical marvels, I'm not taking that away. I'm also turned off by 8 strings, not saying don't play them but all that silliness just makes my head hurt. To each their own, but I'd rather listen to so many other players before tim. I thought Guthrie was awesome with Hans Zimmer, as soon as you put Henson in any other situation than polyphia he sounds out of place, not taking anything away from him but it doesn't impress me beyond the sheer technique of what he's doing. I'd never be able to do that but honestly, I don't have any desire to play like that.
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist It isn't just Tim. The entire band is bending genres like no band I have seen in 40 years. The Aristocrats are great but not as diverse, but Guthrie's solo on Wilson's "Last Regret" may be my favorite ever emotionally... more than Comfortably Numb.... Buuutttt Polyphia is next level. Are we talking Jordan Vs. Lebron? Great channel. Of course, Becker is the man! He and Paul Gilbert were my fav OG's.
Dunno about out of place. Tim was playing Slayer at 10 years old. That is the benefit of having greats show the way. Would Guthrie be out of place playing 140 BPM hip hop song with Sophia Black singing????
becker is forgotten. needs more exposure. but when you get sick , life has a funny way of tossing you to the way side. shame really
