    I've been tying my own flys for 50 years. It's a great hobby especially in the winter months. I would never by flys but I found this concept interesting. Good video

    Smitty's is by far the best way to go for flies. You skipped right over their tying materials which is by far the best option. I have been getting their combo tying box for over a year and have never been disappointed. For $30 I get top quality materials to tie 2-4 dozen (depending on size) each month. The combo (beginner & intermediate) provides at least two patterns and color variations for each. You don't get your flies stuck to a garbage piece of foam or in a special plastic puck, but you can buy your own fly box to keep it all organized.

      Yeah I need to do a separate video specifically looking at boxes for fly tying. The box we did from Smitty's was the combo (fly and beginner tying) box but I just looked at the "fly box" side of the combo for this video. But I %100 agree, if you have any interest in tying the combo box from Smitty's is the way to go.

    you can tie many more than 15 flies for $20 once you have the tools. dry flies closer to 100, wet flies or streamers can be even less. a lot depends on how much variety you want. Fly tying is one of those things where you can spend as much as you want to, but you don't have to.

    Smitty's and Fly Crate are the absolute best. Freestone is pretty great too. The people who run those three are great and doing great things through their donations and partnerships.

      haha, yeah when I made this I had a lot of issues (probably still do) with breaking off the fly. Early on it was me starting my forward cast before my line straightened out completely, once I became more aware of that I had the issue of not understanding that I needed to be more conscious of the size of my tippet with the size fly I was throwing, now it's less of the first two and more just getting better at placing my casts.

    • @DylanWOWilliams
      @DylanWOWilliams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NoExcusesTV1 Yeah, I had the same problem with the tippet size. I enjoy all the nuance to fly fishing. It's quite beautiful. Went out today on my float tube and the lakes are starting to freeze over so I had to fish deep. Been using a sinking line and that's a whole new ball game.
