    Wow this is amazing. I would love to watch step by step. I struggle with all the brushes and options. When I use paper and pencil it’s much simpler but I like the digital options you don’t get with paper and pencil.

    I'm working on a piece where the character has glowing gemstone eyes and I wish like crazy that I could just take a photo of an actual gemstone and put it on lol. Too bad it wouldn't blend seamlessly into the acrylic/watercolour look I have going. It may be mixed media but a photo would stick out like a super thumb. I would love if you came back with a video explaining how you shade your gems. I'm going to see if I can find tutorials and if not, I'll just use a reference and hope that the reflections don't look more off than if I were to try it from my head without s tutorial like the last time. My geologist mother-in-law said they sparkled (I painted them but painted over them and am going to redo them) but I wasn't happy. It already looks better.

    Hi Wooakim your drawings are always gorgeous and it is a delight to sit and watch your sketchs and drawings, but your top view drawing at the beginning and your perspective drawing at the end are clashing. From a hand made jeweller point of view and technically talking, your perspective drawing will not sit and it is way to different from your top view drawing at the start of this video. The right way to realise this ring is the way you drew it at the beginning before the iPad was involved, and you see the tale of the ring not passing the stone. While the final product on the iPad the tale was way passing the stone. As well the shank under the stone need to drop straight then curve, not like the final drawing where you can see it curving straight from under the stone. So basically the perspective drawing will sit the stone on one finger and not like you intended at the beginning in between the two fingers.

    • @WooaKim
      @WooaKim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      very good eye! To be honest, I draw the perspective drawing first. Then, when I draw technical views, I realized that the vine might touch my knuckle, so I shorten it. Nice call.

    This is beautiful and memersing to watch. I am not into jewellery design but you draw such a pretty one. What I don’t understand is if you are making into real ring, different shades of gold are not going to work on it, the whole thing will be gold itself of one color. So why would you go into details…

    I dont know what Ipad I should buy. Is 10.2 enough? or Maybe Air is batter?

    • @WooaKim
      @WooaKim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am using 6 generation 9.7inch 128 GB. I find no problem using it so far even though I draw hundred of drawings. However, recently I tried using custom brushes that I purchased online, then the brush was lagging. I personally plan to buy a iPad pro sometime this year, but if you are a beginner or regular user, lower version would work. I like the small size that goes into my purse, so that I can bring anywhere easily.

    • @WooaKim

      Hi! I recommend you to develop hand sketching skill as base. As for digital tools, photoshop, illustrator, rhinoceros will be very useful. I would start with photoshop. Procreate is kinda mixture with photoshop and illustrator with easy potability if you want to try.

    How did you do that color reference thing?? Like how did you take that gold ring and paste it onto the board and take the exact colors from it??

    • @WooaKim
      @WooaKim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Save the reference color you like in your iPad photo album. Open procreate canvas, hit Action (top left lynch icon)>hit 'insert a photo', then it will connect to your photo album, then you can pick the saved photo. Press and hold for a second where you want to extract the color, your palette automatically pick the color.

      I always loved drawing since I was 4 years old. I tried learning a little bit of everything related to jewelry design. FIT 1yr jewelry design, GIA gemology class, silversmithing, Rhino 3D modeling, wax carving. I am not the best model maker or jeweler but learning in general is very helpful for me to understand this field. Hope this answers your question. :)

    • @photoflo7421
      @photoflo7421 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WooaKim wondering, if you knew rhino really well, is there a point to drawing the rings other than for fun? If you built the actual ring in rhino and knew it well enough to map out your ideas in rhino, you could just print the ring when you’re done. Now you sort of have to start all over again to build a real model and figure out real structure. So would you say it’s just a comfort thing? When I work with clients and do their models in rhino, they always want to visualize another option, how would you do this on a sketch? Even if they said let’s just see a prong option, now you’d need to go redo that whole section? I’m super curious how this works with sketching. For me it’s just a matter of clicks.

    • @WooaKim
      @WooaKim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@photoflo7421 I work with teammates or clients, not by myself for the most of time. Before building 3D models for every option, it is much quicker for me to draw several sketch variations, then I review them with other people to decide next step. Also, I think hand sketching makes more beautiful line and proportion in design especially for organic themed object. However, this may be just my preference, and everyone can have his own preferred tool/technique to develop concepts.
