Over the last few years I’ve gotten really into photography and have been starting to collect cameras. My mom passed away unexpectedly back in March and when I went to her home she left a Nikon EM sitting on her kitchen table for me. I had never seen it before in my life but clearly it was packed away somewhere all these years. Miss ya mom ❤
On a trip to Scotland about 40 years ago, I realized my beloved Nikon EM's shutter had the same "clunk" sound in auto mode no matter what aperture I set. Deducing that my camera was stuck at the 1/90 sec. shutter speed--and not owning a light meter--I found I could do match-needle metering in the still-working viewfinder by adjusting the aperture and ISO settings till they matched the 1/90 sec flash speed. This worked for hundreds of shots. Epilogue: Back at home, Nikon couldn't fix my problem, so I bought an FM model.
Really well done video! I would like some advice. I just found these two Mitakon lenses, a 28mm and a 70-210 (mounted on the Nikon EM). Can I easily mount them on my D5600 (obviously losing all the automatic mechanisms and the exposure meter) without causing damage?🤣 Thanks
Probably. Can you tell if they are AI or AIS? If so, they will be fine. m.dpreview.com/articles/6287665194/understanding-old-nikon-lenses-ai-ai-s-af-and-af-s Avoid pre-AI, as these may damage the camera.
Trevor Lewis I think the camera may be faulty. Is the red battery light working? If it’s getting the exposure right, then the lack of an annoying beep might be a bonus!
when i click to take the picture it doesn't make the click noise which is giving me the hint it isn't taking pictures, when i wynd on a frame it wynds them but wont let me take the picture. do es anybody have any idea whats going on with it?
I would rewind the film completely... open the back cover... remove the film ... take a picture without a film and with open cover .... you will be able to see if the shutter does move or not (although I don't think it is)
On the early year's. I like to spend, moneys on cameras. $ 500 are my basic reasons. Looks for nikon .but, ....the seller, said , sorry .Minolta are better.....free lenses with it....only $ Singapore 550 dollars ...

I understand this. I inherited my dad’s Nikon S3 rangefinder when he passed. Using it reminds me of him.
Aw, sorry to hear about yer mum dude. Enjoy the little EM with her in mind.
Streamlined and informative, much better than other videos I watched!
This video was super helpful bought a Nikon EM at a thrift store for 20$ and didnt know how to put film but now I do thanks!!
Hey, 3 years later, was it a good camera?
That’s a steal! Got mine for £80
Prices have gone up a lot recently
Perfect, in 3 min all the important info!! Thanks!!

They’re hard wearing, even if they’re plastic
Great video! Fast and to the point
Thank you 😀
Great review , short and directly to the point
You’re welcome 😀

Avoid pre-AI, as these may damage the camera.
so, this camera needs lens which can set aperture, right?
Yes, that’s right. Check out Ken Rockwell’s web site. He has a detailed page on Nikon lens compatibility
What is the MD motor drive used for? I would greatly appreciate the clarification. I am currently trying to learn to use my own Nikon EM camera.
It winds on the film for you
quelles sont les piles nécessaires s’il vous plaît ?
so, if we set it on Auto. we only set aperture, then shutter speed is working automatically?
Yes, that’s right
Suspect CLA worth the investment?
Probably cheaper to just buy another - there are loads of cheap working models on ebay. Even better - buy an FG20.
How does that auto exposure comp button work ? Can you pick under or over ?
It just increases exposure by one and a half stops for when the subject is backlit. Quite limited.
any ideas what the problem could be with my camera- the exposure warning beep isnt sounding but all my batteries are in the right place and new
Trevor Lewis I think the camera may be faulty. Is the red battery light working?
If it’s getting the exposure right, then the lack of an annoying beep might be a bonus!
IT is not a fault. It is warning you that the shutter speed is going to be slow for being hand held.
just got my nikon em, i was wondering how to shoot under expose, since i cant udjust the speed.
Ajusting the ISO allows you to under expose. Or you can use the mechanical 1/90 sec
thanks dad!
Welcome 😄
Thank you
Welcome 😉

Sounds like you need to take it to a camera repair specialist? I've never had this problem

What kind of batteries does it use?
LR44 (2 of them)
Nice & Thanks :)
Takes ALL F mount lenses from 1970 on by MY direct experiences.
The pre-AI lenses may damage the meter coupling prong. You can have pre-AI converted
Had one once
how i connec the dslr with my pc
Photographe Oussama it’s not a dslr
It’s not digital, but you can scan the film so you can show it on your PC
Wow you sound like Michael Caine.
You’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!
No one ever tells you how to unload the film!!!
Haha! That’s a good point
