    When I first started diving into knives, Elmax was the first steel name I saw that wasn’t just a bunch of letters and numbers. My fresh potato brain assumed it was some god-tier steel simply because it had a pronounceable name. It’s funny seeing it in this price range more now, but im glad to see it!

      Larrin Thomas rates Elmax and s45vn identical. So it wasn't just ahead of its time, one of the steels people are snatching up in the present is (according to Thomas) effectively identical.

    I was wondering when you were going to get around reviewing one of these. I picked up the blue micarta version recently and love it. I agree it's a small knife and very light weight, but you get use to it. The Elmax blade came from the factory super sharp ..hair shaving sharp. Great review as always!

    Bugout is over-hyped and much more expensive than deserved. I say this as an owner. I want one of these mini-psychoes but they look scarce.

  • @EWTHeckman
    @EWTHeckman 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    Usually I agree completely about the "not a copy of the Bugout" point. But in this case, I happened to be carrying a Bugout I just got. It's the carbon fiber version with S90V steel. I cannot help but notice how very, very, very similar they are. Both have the same pattern of carbon fiber. Both have blue thumb studs and back spacer, though the shade of blue is darker on the Vosteed. The backspacer has the same pattern on it, though the Bugout extends past the scale for a lanyard. Of course, both have the same type of lock. Both have the same type of gimping on the liner (different length). Both have a stamped metal pocket clip with a slot cut in it. The blade shape is more different, but both have the same kind of swedge cut going towards the tip.
    They are so similar that at first I thought you _were_ looking at Bugout. It's actually harder to see the differences in this one than the similarities.
    It's like looking at a video came featuring two Italian plumbers in red and blue overalls named Melvin and Larry bouncing through a world attempting to rescue a princess and wondering if it was made by Nintendo.

    That is a gorgeous knife! It would match well with my Giant Mouse Atelier which is also Elmax and carbon fiber. Knives this size are great for my work where there is a 3” blade limit and I had co-workers gawk at my Ladybug.

    I think the tension on the Omega springs is nice but if that was my first experience with the axis lock I don't think I would have liked it as much. I think it takes time to build up finger strength, I fidget with knives all the time and this one still makes my fingers sore after a while. I had a friend that couldn't even close it.
    I'm actually talking about the mini nightshade, I assume the tension is the same.

  • @lumntoob999
    @lumntoob999 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I love small knives but I don't like crossbar locks on my small knives, for me they get difficult to operate with a short handle. I personally prefer liner or button locks for small knives. I agree that $99-$109 would have been a more appropriate price but I do appreciate companies making small knives with premium materials enough to where I'm willing to spend a bit extra when I see them.

    The reason for the screws on the stop pin is, so it won't fly out if the frame/liners flex during use.

  • @narubius
    @narubius 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    This knife, to me, is taking aim at the Benchmade Mini-Freek rather than the Bugout. And the mini freek has a price tag nearly double that of the bugout (their carbon fiber prices are wild). If I were Vosteed i also wouldn't leave money on the table with that matchup.

    • @Fly2kill1

      what are you talking about? it totally looks like a rip off of the mini bugout. The only difference is this one has more hard angles, which is a miss and has places for hot spots.

    • @charbum
      @charbum 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@galacticcaveman4045 the bug out is the most generic design ever so saying anything is ripping off that knife is insane. It's the simplest hand and most basic drop point blade shape ever known to man. So anytime someone makes a basic knife with a drop point we all seem to run to "bugout ripoff".

    • @galacticcaveman4045
      @galacticcaveman4045 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@charbum well, it's not ripping off a syderco now is it? Look at the electric blue back spacer and thumb studs. Look at the semi-hidden jimping that is integrated into the axis lock mechanism. These are features found on every generic knife right?

    • @charbum
      @charbum 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Why does the psyop look like a completely different knife to the mini psyop and why does it sell for $250? I agree with you I am not usually a fan of "mini" knives. I like the standard version. I looked up the standard psyop and it looks completely different and costs over $125 more. I would be interested in a standard version of this knife for around $100-$120. Love the looks of this and the price isn't too bad but it's too small. I just don't get why it's named the mini psyop when the psyop is a different knife.

    Solution to 'small' knife deployment: It's not a race. Stop trying to deploy a pocket knife in .002 seconds. Don't flick it. Just roll it out. Simple. Just because you CAN flick as fast as an automatic, doesn't mean you HAVE to.
    If you're not in a hurry, smaller knives are no problem at all.
