with all the near death experiences around the world, You only had access to just one?For the most part you just presented hearsay and speculations and opinions. I was hoping for something more conclusive but this one left me with more questions than answers.
The writing is fatally crippled by its assumptions. Just for starters, it is meaningless to say "the Etruscans believed this, and the Egyptians believed that." There are always people who know, and people who make up myths, in every age and in every culture. Similarly, to say that anybody invented the idea of dualism, or life after death, or anything else, is like saying that Newton invented gravity. The problem is that whoever wrote this narration doesn't believe in these things, and assumes they are ideas--when actually, they are *phenomena," which people discover. In every single one of these cultures, the man or woman who *knew*, is never quoted. The only people whom ignorant scholars quote--and make to stand for the entire culture--are people who were on a par with them--equally ignorant. Such people of the future might say, "In 21st century America, they believed that the body was all there is, and the brain creates consciousness." But I know better, and lots of other people know better. Likewise in ancient Egypt, there were people who knew the physical heart wasn't the seat of the soul; and in ancient Sumeria, there were people who knew that the stomach was also not the seat of the soul. It was the ignorant who believed such things in each of these cultures. I suppose it makes scholars feel superior to quote the ignorant of each culture--but logically, it's a form of "'straw man."
I think in many years time, there will be a culture that sends off dead bodies into space on personal small rockets to be with the stars. After all, we are all part of the universe. We can then all look up at the night sky more and think of our departed loved ones. A funeral could be an outdoor event and a send off of the rocket. Just a thought for a future culture.
If death is the end that would be so sad.. It would make everything kind of pointless in a way.... So death can't be the end. I can't except it will be the end of me.

Based on the book I've read by Sam Harris "Waking up" I can say there probably is more to consciousness than what many in the scientific field currently admit to. But currently there is not even a consensus on what would even qualify as evidence for the soul as it is a completely vague and undefined term. Maybe because nobody who talks about souls has any clue what they're talking about. Same goes for consciousness I believe, no clear universally accepted term to define it. It's worth checking out Thomas Nagel's "what is it like to be a bat" analogy, which helps to some degree, but it definitely doesn't end there.
