    Thank you! My son has MTHFR and was scheduled for 4 appointment at the dentist with the laughing gas!
    We're prepared to not use it now

    My son and I are both impacted by the MTHFR gene. Two years ago, at 6 years old, he had to have cavities filled. He is diagnosed ASD with ADHD but the root cause is a deletion on chromosome 6p12.1 and 16p12.2 along with gene change on 2 genes. He was on abilify at the time of the dental procedure. This was the second time using nitrous oxide when in the middle of the filling he began throwing up. They stopped the nitrous oxide and finished the procedure after cleaning him up. When they finished he was so lethargic and fell asleep in my arms. The dentist had me wake him up and needed to see him walk before he left the office. He threw up 2 more times in the next hour and was completely out of it. It took 3 hours for him to be able to have a conversation again. The dentist called at 9:30 at night to check on him saying that reaction was not typical and he wanted to see if he was ok. From then on we never used nitrous oxide again. At the time I thought the abilify had something to do with his reaction. It wasn’t until I found out about our MTHFR issue and stumbled across Dr Ben and all his teachings that I now know that his reaction was due to the MTHFR and his B12 depletion! I can’t wait for the Dirty Gene book so I can learn more!!

      Thank you for sharing your story. It is with stories like yours that drive change in medicine. All docs must screen for vitamin B12 deficiency and homocysteine levels prior to nitrous oxide use. Dirty Genes is coming soon!! Just a couple more weeks!

    I had laughing gas once... and NEVER again. I wigged the heck out. I do have the MTHFR genetic mutation. I could not speak and I wanted them to take the mask off. I hated the way I felt and went into a total panic. Somehow I was able to get my hands up to alert them... soooo bad.

    Thank you so much Dr. Lynch for providing this information. My 16 year old daughter who has autism had nitrous oxide for dental work in June and has since been an emotional wreck, crying every day, throwing things, sleep deprived. This and many more issues started after this dental visit and I didn't put 2 and 2 together until hearing you speak at a recent conference and watching your video. I know better than to put her through this again now and will be searching for other ways to keep her calm and compliant during future visits. Priceless information!

      Be sure to support her with liposomal glutathione, likely additional B12, methylfolate as well. These are useful to help support methylation which got hampered likely by the nitrous oxide. You may find them at www.seekinghealth.com - I'm glad you find the information helpful!!

    Wow I wish I knew this before going into labour, I sucked that stuff down like the nectar of life for hours on end. I have several MTHFR mutations and on top of this my B12 was likely very low due to a vegetarian diet during pregnancy. I have a theory my aversion to protein was caused by zinc deficiency, but that's another story. Anyway, I had severe post natal anxiety, absolutely horrendous. My daughter who likely has MTHFR defects was a very stressed out baby who would hardly sleep. Nightmare material. Thank you so much for the education you provide, I haven't found discussion of this issue elsewhere! I'm now 6 months pregnant with my next child, I can't thank you enough for puting this information out there!

    Thank you very much for this video. It made sense to me what has actually happened after I had a surgery under nitrous oxide. The symptoms I had after were awful and lasted for months. It’s been 5 months since the surgery and I can’t believe how much damage it caused me. Don’t ever use this gas and don’t let a doctor use it as a sadation. It’s the worst experience I ever had.

    I stopped breathing, started having seizures and ultimately, unknowingly ingested the material from temporary dental crowns that was discovered had perforated my intestine 4 weeks later & had to undergo an open abdominal surgery to retrieve this object. No prior history of seizures . By the time I got to the ER via paramedics, I was doing well and discharged. Only 4 weeks later I started having abdominal pain thus leading to a CT scan, discovering the perforation and foreign object.

    I have the MTHFR gene too & experienced no problems the 3 times I've used nitrous for dental extractions.
    I've had a lot of dental work done over the years & I prefer it for long procedures.
    I've felt nothing but relaxation, a general disconnection to the world around, sounds seem farther away & time slows down - like during a marijuana high (which I've only done once).
    I've had 3 near death experiences from unrelated anaphylactic, allergic reactions (Alpha Gal) & those felt the exact same way as being high from marijuana & nitrous, so I wonder if there's any connection to the MTHFR stuff & those highs as well...

    Nitrous oxide deactivates vitamin B12 while it is influencing a person and has a mild analgesic effect, it causes stress hormones to leave the brain incredibly fast, and it has a biological half life of roughly 5 minutes, use for patients who do not have a vitamin B12 deficiency is extremely safe as it leaves your system in minutes and therefore if issues arise you are capable of recovering quickly so they can be addressed, you would need to huff nossie regularly and in extremely large amounts to suffer from a vitamin B12 deficiency as a result from using it. Excessive nitrous oxide abuse is an issue and it has affected people but the “dangers” shown in this video are not even close to the whole picture, the fact of the matter is that nitrous oxide is an extremely safe substance and doctors giving you a controlled dose in order to reduce pain and stress of routine invasive procedures can be trusted, though you should ask them to avoid administering nitrous oxide if you have a vitamin B12 deficiency. People who say oh I wouldn’t recommend this because I heard weird noises and it wasn’t right don’t understand that this substance intoxicates a patient, they didn’t experience anything bad or unique they just got high, it’s safe and there’s a reason it’s used in the dentist’s office, so to everyone who wrote a comment saying they heard weird noises and they felt distant from themselves and stuff, that’s what happens to everyone man you just got high, that’s what nitrous does and that’s what it’s supposed to do, people could really relax about this subject because while there are dangers and issues I’d consider it better for your body and mind than alcohol if it’s being used responsibly

    when you say the cob(I)alamin is ireversably inactivated, do you mean its rendered useless and slowly removed by the body or does it remain in the body permanently?I thought oxidation of this compound was a normal bodily function?and the mthfr issue is only present in some people?in short does this cause any irreparable damage to the body or cells, or given adequate b12 will the average person not suffer any permanent damage?Thanks.

    Doctor I think all of the sedation are more side effects compare to nitrous oxide...nitrous oxide is much safer compare to benzodiazepines and opiates..the synergistic effect of this opiates and Benson requires further monitoring cardiac and respiratory evaluation. And compare to nitrous oxide no need to monitor cardiac and oxygenation..
    Dr. I rhink there is a guidelines to follow and there is good indication before using nitrous oxide..

    • @DrBenLynch
      @DrBenLynch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that's true. valid point. there are guidelines to follow - but the guidelines are not enough. they need to check for vitamin B12 deficiency prior to use and glutathione deficiency - and they don't do either.

    Hello and thank you for your dedication to the research! New to the MTHFR. I want to comment on our experience with N2O. disclaimer we used it before our journey to you. My son (14y 15y at the time) had it during a dental procedure. He came out and said he told them he was having a hard time breathing, he said they immediately stopped using it and I guess gave him time to recoup from it? It was an unusual long wait. Well, I will never forget the 24 hours after. He was incoherent, slept and never moved for 18 to 24 hrs after!!

    What would you recommend as an alternative to clear excess urea and ammonia?

    • @DrBenLynch

      Nitric oxide and nitrous oxide are two different things. Citrulline, ornithine and alpha-ketoglutarate and carnitine are all quite useful to clear ammonia. We offer AKG and carnitine at www.seekinghealth.com We also offer liposomal glutathione which is needed to help keep your mitochondria happy as happy mitochondria help clear ammonia. PQQ as well.

      Nitrous oxide is a cheap propellant and the food grade stuff is pure enough to inhale without adverse side effects caused if an impurity aerosols into the gas being released, basically it won’t get into your food but if you turn the can upright and huff the gas that sprays out of it if you hit the white nozzle you’ll get high but it can’t get into the cream that it dispenses it basically just whips it and pushes it out and nothing else, also recreational uses in small doses and irregularly should not be a concern as you would have to huff a LOT of nitrous over a long period of time to develop a vitamin b12 deficiency so even if you were huffing the stuff you’d be alright but it’s not getting into your food so don’t worry also if it was you’d be able to tell in a couple hours because it would enter your bloodstream and you’d feel a bit of a rush of euphoria followed by some dizziness and laughter

  • @ZZz-jv5wc

    You mention what people should do prior to and after the use of laughing gas if they have MTHFR, would you use this same protocol for getting an epidural or if a mom needs to be put to sleep for emergency csection? I am homozygous 677 and going for a my 2nd vbac. I understand there risk no matter what but I'm looking for what could possibly help me in the event that I need an epidural or need put to sleep for surgery to minimize my risk of negative or life threatening affects.

    I had a dentist give me 'lidocaine' for the first time in my life and it about killed me..!!
    I went to the dentist and when it was administered I blacked out within 30-40 seconds.Then stayed blacked out for 45 seconds and was awakened with smelling salts.I was wiped out from Thursday evening until Saturday morning.After this incident I called all the hospitals in a 60 to 80 mile radius and asked if they test for adverse reactions or allergic reactions from anesthetics.They all said they do not have any test whatsoever.That was in 2009,and I recently inquired again if they do test for anesthetics and they still have no such testing.With MTHFR I have no life since 1992.I tried all that methyl folate and B-12 and it does nothing for me.It only gave me a sick caffeine high the first day I tried the supplements for 6 hours then crashed,continued with it and had no results.

    Hi I watched you video got info I had no clue of before I was on nitrogen oxide to get a root canal two days ago. First off I'll go back to what the dentist did. I had a replacement of a bridge done, my third one sense I was 20 yr of age. Im now 51 yrs.
    Anyway the doctor numbed my up good about 6 time so I wouldn't feel pain in the front tooth. I warned him I was traumatized from the very first bridge I had. My 1 front tooth was highly tripped sensitive before he drilled out the old bridge. I was very scared, my tooth was so bad it felt like an electrical wire was sitting on it. He didn't see anything on the xray.
    He insisted that nothing was wrong. So with all being said, I had a temporary bridge put on until the Prominent one Was done. During the 2 weeks I complained that the front tooth was hurting very bad. Being that he drilled that tooth again.
    They finally Called me and told me the perminent one was in. However when They took out the temporary bridge, They gave me Nitras to relax me. Which only lasted about 15 to 20 minutes. They Cemented the perminent bridge on. I was still complaining of that 1 tooth. I went back to get antibiotics, because I feel in my gut that there was an abscess in the perminent bridge. I asked not to see the doctor who did the procedure. And to see another doctor for a root canal through the bridge. I was scared to death that I may feel so much pain, that I had my doctor prescribe One benzo, 0.25 mg With the addition to the medication I already take for Seizures and dystonia. I Took gabba penton 2 hours before I got there, With the benzo. I felt it was still not working, So I paid for them to give me Nitrogen oxide, In which I was under for over an hour. When they try to wake me up after the procedure. I would not wake up, couldn't wake up. about 20 minutes went by after the nitrogen oxide was taken off. I went into a seizure. They called 911, My daughter was there she was scared to death that something may happen to her mom. Of course paramedics gave me more medication to calm the seizures down, to me to the hospital. I was very sedated even the next day when I woke up I could not drive. I noticed the day after the procedure my Nose is running like a water fosset. I can't stop it, I took allergy pills, I have gone through a Box of tissue in 24 hours. My nose hurts very bad And I can't stop my nose from running like a faucet, I listen to your video, it was very educating. However they never asked me about vitamin B12 or anything else about my health. What I want to know from you, is what they did... Was irresponsible That I had to go through that. it was very traumatizing I never never want to go back to a dentist ever again. What are your comments and what do you think about everything I shared. Im miserable my nose won't stop running of course my tooth hurts very bad.. They prescribe pain meds and antibiotics. I hope to hear from you soon in regards of this concern. Thank you again for your video and your insight. Sincerely Tracy Chapman, Sorry this was very long but I need answers.

      If you are deficient in protein, glutathione, methylfolate and methylcobalamin - then that is an issue. Your second child may also need nutritional support as well to offset the exposure - as they got exposed too.

I have been giving my son a good b-complex with methylfolate and methylcobalamin for several years now as well as other nutritional supplements and a clean diet. He used to have many problems in school with learning and socially. He also suffered from chronic nosebleeds, allergies, hives & eye styes. He has improved so much! I haven't tried him on glutathione yet. Can you recommend a dosage for a small 13 yr old?

  • @jessicamcgregor82

    My son is on the autism spectrum and had nitrous oxide used on him before anesthesia and it took him a very long time to wake up from it, I was getting scared and now I know why... my son has some type of MTHFR mutation that we found by doing a rather cheap folate test, it didn't explain in depth so we are going to do a 23 and me test for him just like I did, I am homozygous MTHFR A1298C and not sure yet what my husbands genes look like. This makes me so angry that dentist use this not knowing how it will affect certain individuals and the thought that my son might not have woken up from this is terrifying! My son has had worse emotional (crying, anger, and defiant) problems sensory issues seem to have gotten worse like oral aversions and hypersensitivity to pain since the surgery. Since my son has problems with oral aversions pretty bad and will not eat any leafy greens what amount and type of the b12(methy b, adenosyl, or hyroxy) supplement should I give him. Also I tried to give him Methylfolate before and it made his anger problems worse, which I now know that is a side effect after watching your other videos. would your Kid's Optimal Multivitamin formula adress all of this? or would he need a higher amount based on the fact he had the nitrous oxide?

  • @bonniepineda516
    @bonniepineda516 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hypothetical:
    If obstetricians were to track B12 levels through pregnancy (as well as run the possible genetic tests), prescribe a supplement(s), and continue to prescribe it to the mother and baby after birth, could that just help the problem? The Nitrous that is given in labor is not the same concentration as used in dentistry, does that make any difference? My midwife describes it as leaving the body 30 second after you exhale. I assume she may not know all this?.... I am considering nitrous for labor but I have never used it before for anything.... My son has had nitrous before general anesthesia at the dentists office... The effects were gone by the time we got home.... I know thats not the case for everyone... If there is something they can do to test the danger of it for a particular patient before administeing it that should already be being done.

      Thx man people really don’t understand this stuff and when people like this guy give an obstructed scare tactic-like video it only makes it worse, this is nonsense and I’m glad someone else said something

      while not providing any scientific argument against
      are you people living in irrational world only fed with assumptions and repeating other ppl opinions?
      or do you ever use brain and widen knowledge before starting criticising something

    Thank you for this! My son who is 7, has autism and MTHFR has a lot of dental work coming in a month or so. He has to use anesthesia in order to get him to cooperate. I hesitate using the gas and now I know why so thank you! I will try to remember to look up your article with alternatives.

      look at NuCalm for one. The other is finding a dentist with a TV on the ceiling and a great staff. Bach flower remedies may be useful for some - along with Calms Forte for Kids cell salts by Hylands.

    N20 is realivly safe as long as you take vitamin B12 before going to the dentist, also, if you never had any nitrous oxide, try a small amount, because NMDA antagonists aren't something some people like.

      Need not only B12 but also liposomal glutathione and methylfolate.

    Thank you for sharing your research! I have not had genetic testing done yet, but I suspect I have MTHFR. My reaction to nitrous oxide is one reason I believe that. I have had nitrous oxide one time and I will never again do that. It was awful! I felt paralyzed. I could not even motion to get anyone's attention to let them know there was a problem. I had difficulty breathing as I was hyperventilating due to the anxiety I felt. Afterwards, I felt very weak as I walked to our car. It was all so strange. I'm just thankful to know it wasn't all in my head.

    • @boonexy
      @boonexy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      what damage to the brain do you have? if you asphyxiated yourself you cant repair most of that stuff no matter the method

  • @JoeyVX
    @JoeyVX 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is used as an anaesthetic. It’s great because it’s a fast acting anaesthetic and wears off fairly quickly. Nitrous oxide is ok if you use when you go to the dentist but if you’re abusing it then it’s a problem. Once or twice a year will not have any long term affects. The neurological effects dentist suffer if attributed to N2O would be because they are exposed to it on a daily bases. It’s a great anaesthetic and affordable but sure some improvements can be made.

      mythylene blue inhibits/blocks NO production and has neuroprotective effect in
      case of shocks saving cells from death when these lack oxygen
      people train themselves with hypoxia but question is what is the damage coming with it?

    Both times I've tried NO2 at the dentist; it was great!
    I would be willing to try nucalm but I have a feeling that you might as well be telling us to try deep breathing and that straight up; isn't going to fly...
    When I am at the dentist; I want a drug that is going to put real chemicals into my brain so that it does not function normally, end of story, none of this placebo, psycobabble, crap... You can keep all that stuff for yourself... I've never had a cream do shit... Lol
    I know that Drs are going to HAVE to stop being so God damned stingy with drugs. You guys are LITERALLY killing people. Every fentanyl OD is on you guys for ignoring our problems and telling us to try deep breathing honestly. If you won't give us what we need safely; we will just go get what is cheap unsafely because at the end of the day; we WILL be fixed or find a way to cope and mindfulness meditation isn't going to cut it. So you guys need to just bite the bullet and be figuring out a relatively safe substance that you can give to people as a coping mechanism because not everyone has the ability to count backwards from 10 and calm down. If we are REALLY being honest here; every suicide, mass shooter, or drug OD is the result of a patient not getting the care that they need.

    My dentist used to give me nitrous oxide. Not only did it help me a lot, but I felt better physically after I left the dentist; rested, etc. Amazing how individual chemistry can vary. Medicine is rather undeveloped. Nitrous oxide like other medical achievements are rather crude developments.

      research also methylene blue and B1
      crazy how these things link together
      and one time help you for one thing while harm other things
      having something doing opposite
      blue is inhibitor of NO
      one thing saves your nervous cell from dying of shock (blue)
      while second blocks division of cell and so is anti-cancerous (fasting does it, both related to P53)

    I feel bad for everyone that belives this guy, he acts as if your B12 deficiency comes from one dose of Nitrous Oxide, B12 deficiencies come from long term use of the substance

    • @DrBenLynch
      @DrBenLynch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the harm of nitrous oxide occurs in those who are already B12 and glutathione deficient. why risk it for a child or someone else? It's an issue people are not addressing and it's severely hurting them. I feel bad for you not listening as it could happen to you - and it's not fun being in a coma or having a stroke.

    • @szymonbaranowski8184
      @szymonbaranowski8184 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrBenLynch do you know methylene blue is inhibiting NO production and inhibits P53 in nervous cells saving it case of shock like lack of oxygen?
      also B1 which is often in deficiency when higher doses depletes B12 i recall
      it well adds to this material
