Hello, i have recently obtained one. Is it still supposed to spin with only one wheel on? Mine is not. That's why I'm curious as i dont currently possess film
When turn on the projector in play mode without film, The take up reel ( the rear one) must spin when it is in play mode (motor or lamp), in rewind mode with rewind lever pulled to the right, the supply reel should spin counter clockwise and also the take up reel should turn slightly clockwise to maintain a little slag on the film.
Hello! I have a M68A that works fine, except I don't understand the mechanical process behind the rewind mechanism. I suspect that we have either wound the belt incorrectly, or else there is a missing part, because it does not make sense. We have wound the belt such that the two reels spin in opposition to each other. The one video we found which shows belt winding (th-cam.com/video/UyPdx8vrqe4/w-d-xo.html) seems to have it incorrect - both spindles are spinning clockwise - so we do not have a reference that we trust. Internally, the rewind switch causes a metal plate to rotate on a fixed axis, with a captive spring for friction. In one of the two belt configurations we tried, the metal plate would rub on the belt when rewind is disengaged, causing extra friction. In the other belt configuration we tried, the metal plate has no apparent interaction with anything inside the projector. Can you describe how the rewind mechanism works in your projector, mechanically speaking, and do you have a reference for the correct belt winding? Thank you very much, this was a great video and it was nice to see the complete and correct operation of the projector's controls.
I have one of these we bought in the early 1970's. I turned it on just now to look at some of our old movies. It still has a light that works and a motor that comes on but it is not turning the film. Does anybody know what I might do to repair it?
yes , probably belt is broken. But, If the belt still intact and not cracked but due to the age does not grabbing the pully try to clean it with acetone or paint thinner, some times it restore it a little bit.

It might be that the belts are broken, so the motor is running on its own without moving the mechanism.

@homeelectronics5055 But should be replaced soon anyways.
