Genuinely hyped for this: KH has always been one of those franchises that has perplexed and interested me, but I know I'll probably never get around to playing. An analysis like this should definitely satisfy my curiosity and confusion with this franchise. I'm genuinely curious to hear why people like this franchise.
One of my most vivid gaming memories from my childhood is getting stuck on the Hollow Bastion boss fight, which pushed me to rage quitting the game for months. I finally game back and beat it in a couple tries, and it was a genuine shock how easy it was when I did. I then went on to beat the game, and to this day I have no idea what the fuck was going on.
I had issues with KH3 initially (finding it a bit lacking compared to kh2) but since I was playing the PC version with the dlc when I finally got around to it I did eventually find myself enjoying it more once I started critical mode (which helped the combat become more enjoyable) and disabling attractions (which really killed the games vide for me) Overall KH3 honestly was pretty good, but I'm really hoping that after finishing up its chaotic story, maybe future KH games can move forward with a less messy story and maybe refine their combat. Either way, with the whole KH collection now on my PC and with KH3 wrapping up the original story threads i'm at least happy with how my Kingdom hearts adventure went. Just found your channel and I hope to eventually see your takes on all the games, love to listen to game retrospectives.
Not to be negative, but I'm just fearing that when this project is done that all I'm gonna get is: "Kingdom Hearts 2 will always the best and only game that matters cause everything else after it sucks."
Even when I started this project I was certain that wouldn’t be the case, but now I can definitely state it’s not. To make a long series short, kh2 has plenty of flaws that future games, even and especially kh3, improve upon. Maybe you’re used to other youtube channels that would ham-fist a conclusion like that to support their own nostalgia-blind biases but I’m not one of them, I try to legitimately question why I like things and whether I’m wrong or right about them.
@@TetramorreThat and usually KH2 stans spam the comment section of any video that doesn't put the game on top as "the best." They're even worse towards those who prefer KH3 over KH2, as HMK can testify on that. Its the hive mindset that concerns me more than people who like the game but acknowledge its flaws. So I'm hoping that's the case on your end as I don't want to make this sound like a jab at you. Its just these days the nostalgia blinding its so strong that they won't admit that KH2 is not a perfect game they think it is. Or in a cynical sense, they're getting older and are trying to hold on to that nostalgia for their own benefits.
Sucks you're not going thru 358/2 days, the actual game, because that is a game that loses most of its Impact on the cutscene remaster they did, other than that I can't wait to watch them all and hear your thoughts, since I also have a ton of opinions on the series with mostly negative against kh3 and the direction of the series but its whatever. I already saw your kh1 and it was pretty good, I'm about to see the rest now
Hey ummm word of advice, from what I hear 358/2 days has an awesome story and character writing, especially for axel xion and roxas. And whiile you dont have to, I would advise not just watching the cutscenes, as it doesnt full flesh out the relationships and more. If you can, watch the game cutscenes, at least between the main characters. People always say, the remix is kind of a spit on the characters in 358
Do you have a loose timeline or anything? I'd be devastated if it turned into a joseph anderson waiting 1+ year for the next video debacle. I'd still wait tho. Really enjoyed the kh1 vid You've probably seen it but I love this story explanation of the series from Bestguyever th-cam.com/video/_Bo6Cbeq18k/w-d-xo.html Will be fun to contrast his thoughts with yours. Also, this is best kh intro th-cam.com/video/clCj9h4Y7Sw/w-d-xo.html it's such an over the top fever dream of a cutscene, i love it.
No timeline unfortunately, but barring a cataclysmic event in my life I highly doubt I’ll have a hiatus of that caliber. I may not be the fastest content creator but I am fairly consistent and getting regularly faster (you wouldn’t know it by my output this year but it’s true lol)
Technically speaking only one thing was ever *actually* retconned, and it was just who did the pete-banishing. Everything else is moreso just cases of new information that recontextualizes prior info, or proves characters to have been *incorrect* about details without anything explicitly supporting their claims.
The recontextualization of previous info is also a definition of a retcon, so your first statement is categorically false unless you are using an extremely narrow definition of what a “retcon” is.
@@Cjndrtri25 I think he meant "retcon" in the sense that something was directly contradicted. This doesn't actually happen all that much to my knowledge, though I haven't played Dark Road, I feel like that may have done a lot.
Kingdom Hearts is easily my most treasured media IP. Out of all the cartoons, anime, movies, games, comics, books, etc. that I've loved over the years, Kingdom Hearts has easily meant the most, playing the first one at the age of twelve when it first came out, and playing KH3 right on the cusp of turning 30. I didn't own any handhelds, so I didn't get to experience any of those games until the remasted versions came out. Once I did, I immersed myself completely. The hype for KH3 was so very real for me. It ended up becoming a big let down in a lot of ways. I didn't even buy Re:Mind. I haven't picked up any KH games since playing KH3 one time and honestly I don't know what could bring me back in. I just don't know... I wish I could. I miss it.

Ayyyy hell yeah finally the solid snake of a series to URMC's liquid
My favorite comment

Thankfully 1.5 + 2.5 remix version somewhat an attempt to remedies the introduction for newcomers to say the least
Very excited for this! The kingdom hearts games, especially the first one are very special to me.

"play them in chronological order, dont try and play them in the order the story plays out" those two things mean the same thing tho
Release order as opposed to the timeline of the game’s events

@@Tetramorre Cool, thanks! Can't wait to get there lol
It is stupid how much these games influenced my attitude as a child, a girl i was sweet on in middle school who got me into them
The knight boss in traverse town still sours my opinion of kh1. Why give the dodge roll after a boss that could really use it?
To be honest, this franchise does give me a knee-jerk reaction.

I stopped liking KH when I realised none of the narrative threads would ever be tied. It is a cute tapestry that frays and rips with every release.
It’s unfortunate you feel this way. Because there’s probably 5 total characters in kh and they are all the same. Everything is connected
Kingdom hearts 3 is my 2nd favourite of the series
