Love these cookies first introduce by my first Landlords.in Queens New York , they were Greeks and soo caring and beautiful people. It was during Christmas and the lady came down to see us and brought a plate of different treats , it was delicious. Then I venture to go inside the one famous corner Greek bakery/ restaurant / cafe at the time in Queens, New York, Omonias Cafe and I fell in love with everything. I am very selective with my palate, I really think I was Greek in another life. Thanks so much for the recipes, I can wait to make them.
A family friend used to give us a box of these cookies every Christmas until she became too ill. For years I would find our young daughter with icing sugar around her mouth and on her clothes when she stole one! The last year our friend was alive, my daughter and I made them and delivered them to her; a very poignant moment. She gave me her recipe, but being so ill it was pretty cryptic, and the cookies were a bit .... hard. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Although none of our family is Greek, our Christmas just wouldn't be the same without these to leave icing sugar traces all over the house!!
I love these cookies! My aunt (by marriage) came from a Greek family, and I fondly remember going over to her mother's place on Christmas night, where (a) the old lady greeted us kids with a big sloppy kiss, and (b) a plate of kourabiedes! Their family did Christmas in a very different way than ours ... lots of people, lots of drinking, lots of amazing (to us white-bread types) food, dancing and laughing.
My kind of Christmas, Grandma, family, food and laughter!!! Experienced that as a child, which was great, now my cousins have families of their own and we never see them! Memories!!!
Thank you so much for this recipe!! My great grandmother used to make these all the time for my mother but since she passed my mum hasn't found a recipe that is as good as her grandmother's until I made this recipe for her!! She loves these so much, she nearly finished them all in one sitting
I just happened on your website and my eyes widened so I sent your link to my brothers because you look so much like our Greek father that I almost choked..My dad's grandmother and mom used to send us these cookies at Christmas since we lived on the West Coast and they lived near Boston. What wonderful memories.. THANKS for the nice surprise!!

So many recipes around for this type of cookie, so i guess whatever works for you, thanks for your video!!!
Thank you for sharing this ingredients and how to make it. I really love greek cookies now i can do it by my self. Because here in Philippines, greek cookies is little bit expensive 😁...
I just ate kourabiedes for the first time and they were delicious. I can't wait to try your recipe. I just love everything about your videos - the pace, your commentary, unpretentious, etc. Thank you! :-)
Thank you Ken, this recipes is great. We made the most melt in your mouth Kourabiebes with your recipe. I also love to use salted butter in baking, so glad to hear that it's not just me. Happy Easter.
I'm an 80 year old Greek and i love to use salted butter too. My Greek lady friends TELL ME IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, THESE ARE NOT AUTHENTIC GREEK KOURABIEDES BECAUSE OF THE SALTED BUTTER. I tell them I'm 100% Greek and they definitely are authentic. 😋I use my grandmothers recipe very similar to yours with Anise oil. I enjoyed your video.
Love the recipe. If I may offer a tip to get a perfect half moon shape. I spread the mixture onto the board. Using a small glass, something like a sherry glass cut the mixture by pressing half the inverted glass onto the mixture. Perfect uniform shaped cookies
Hi Ken I have been making kourabiedies for years now, a friends recipe. I saw your Christmas video and looked up if you had a kourabiedies recipe. Sure enough I had to try your recipe today so I just fished over 200 kourabiedies they turned delicious thank you Now tommorrow I will be making your greek feta filo with honey
My beautiful Greek grandma made these she would sprinkle rose water on the cookies as they cooled, then she would sprinkle the ice sugar, so delicious 😋
Yes, rosewater and orange blossom are also traditional, but then it is usually spritzed on after baking while still hot, with a spray bottle. My mom used anise seed oil in hers... if you like ouzo flavour, you would love hers...
Thank you for sharing your recipe Ken! This is my favorite biscuit. I just made it first time, I really love the way to show us, clearly explaining, love the taste. But my biscuits come out with a bit dense in the middle, could you please show me how to fix it next time thank you very much and Happy Easter
There seem to be so many versions of this cookie. The version I have has Anise extract (or Ouzo) and grated lemon peel. Your version sounds very good - I'm going to try it ~ Happy Holiday's to you Ken ~
I’m with you 100%! I only use Salted Butter 🧈. It’s not that “salty” and, that Touch of a salty taste, adds a hint of counterpoint in a sugary cookie 🍪. Thanks for using salt 🧂... which as it’s said about good people they are: #SaltOfTheEarth 🌎.
Hi, can you please do a video about your Greek coffee I love it so much but I don't know where to buy authentic Greek coffee. My favorite Greek place in Hatfield, PA the chef will make me coffee and is the only coffee that will stop my migrane headache in a second.
Thanks Ken, I gotta try your recipe but I'm gonna go visit the Greek shopping place and find the taxa or whatever that liquor is - and maybe go find some ewe or goat milk butter because my Greek friend says that's what his mother used! I realise now why mine are not quite right too because I never whip the butter first!
Hey Sarah, That sounds fantastic!!! Just follow the vids and I’m sure you’re going to be fine:-)) Good luck and let me know how they turn out for you. I would even love some pics👍🙏🏼❤️✌️🙌
Bravo Ken, great tutorial. You forgot to mention to the non-Greeks who've never eaten these before: Remember! DO NOT inhale while biting into these or you'll be coughing up powdered sugar for a while :D

That makes sense :) Usually, i am avoiding recipes with "cup" because one can never know the exact measure, and that is the main reason of failing. My suggestion is to put the measure in grams together with "cups' (ie. 1 cup of sugar/80 grams).
One cup. In the first couple of minutes of the video he outlined how much of each ingredient is needed; he forgot to mention it again as he was mixing it all.

I think my YiaYia is the only one who didn't put nuts in their cookies.
Ken, do you have an easy recipe for koludia?
Elaine, Yes I do actually.... I’ll be doing that later this fall:-))
My other mother (Greek next door neighbor) never used nuts, but she used almond extract instead of vanilla. Another delicious way.
Haha That’s for sure!!! Recipes are never carved in stone...
Ingredients List:
5 cups a/p flour
3 cups icing sugar
150g slivered almonds
2 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. salted butter
1/2 cup Greek brandy
Method:
Pre-heat oven to 350*f/160*c
In a large bowl or mixer add softened butter and egg yolks and mix well
Add icing sugar, brandy and vanilla and continue mixing for 3 minutes
Add half the flour and mix slowly for 3 more minutes
Add remaining flour and almonds and mix for 5 more minutes
Form kourabiedes into desired shape and place 1" apart on parchment paper lined baking sheet
Bake @350*f for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned
Allow to completely cool and sprinkle liberally with icing sugar
Saw that some Greeks are using OOzo instead of Metaxa. Is it ok?
+Branka Simić Absolutely!!!! Booze of choice LOL
Instead of coñac what could I use to replace it in The recipe?
You can use ouzo, mastiha or just omit it...
Trying this now..
You say 3 cups of icing sugar in the recipe but only use 1 cup when making it.
Are the other 2 cups for the dusting?
Wow
hello do you have the weight of the ingredients in grams?
Thank you
Where can we get your written recipe?
Thank you for your question!!! Currently, I share my recipes online only in video form. Eventually I hope to put out a cookbook. Thanks again:-))

is there no need to put in baking powder ?? Please can someone help me out here ??
Do you need a mixer? Could a spoon be ok?
You can mix with a spoon Laura but a mixer just makes it easier....
How long did he Cook them for?
About 15-20 minutes. Sorry lol forgot to mention that in the vid....
Your link for the recipe no longer works. Was hoping to print out the ingredients and instructions,
Is there a substitute for the booze
You can omit the booze and extra use vanilla or almond extract...
Thank you Ken and I love your videos every recipe I've tried has been fabulously delicious
