Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup th-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
You should've seen the wahoo I got in my 16ft starcraft last weekend. I was trolling about 30 miles off AC,NJ, 52LB solo. It was literally a third of the lengthy of my boat

I’m getting a penn slammer 4500 but I want a rod that is still somewhat light because I mostly do inshore so what line rating should I go for I’m looking at 10-20 or like 10-25 maybe 15-30 just need some opinion
There is a lot of great information in this video. a bit intimidating for a beginner to Florida waters, especially to those who don't have the budget to allow 15 rods in their arsenal.
@@FloridaSportFishing I have been watching a lot of the videos and learning a lot and looking forward to putting some of that into practice. I am starting to outfit my boat with spinning rods, I would like something versatile that i can use to fish some larger fish closer to shore if i choose with my kids but also handle some fish when we go offshore. Any suggestions on a set up? thanks for your help
Great video capt. Mike i believe iv been putting to heavy of line on my smaller reels taking the fun out of the fight just having a tug of war pulling the fish in quick question i have a penn international 30 with 60lb braid and i believe there a big grouper at one of my spots here in texas i cant even slow him down he takes me right into the rig should i move up to a 50 or just put heavier line on the reel iv got thanks again capt. Mike keep up the great videos by far my favorite fishing show you wish there could of been an episode with you and jose wejebe before he passed that would of been packed with knowledge thanks again
nathan butler Thanks Nathan. Not sure if bumping up from 60 lb braid on your Int'l 30 is going to stop that grouper. I say go with the 50, loaded with 100 lb, and slam on the breaks, just make sure all of your connections are perfect! Thanks again for watching. - Capt Mike
Cap. Mike you are the kind of a guy everyone wants on the boat. Not just for the knowledge but for atmosphere. Would love to fish with you one day !!! But for now help me pls with something : I have a couple of rods but want to get 2 rods(7') from Chaos guys. Looking at e glass rods. I want the 15-30 lb livebait for my 8-12 hour trips and a livebait rod for groupers and reds for those 44h trips. I see you use 20lb line test on most of your rods . I'm a bit confused. Will that 20lb test mono do the job for an average grouper ? Also what rod will I feel very confident for that 44 hour bottom grouper ? Thank you in advance. You're the man !!!
hey Capt. Mike ive seen you do a few grouper videos but ive never seen you go for the extra big gag groupers or the Big goliath Groupers i was just wonder if you could do a video on those so i could get a few tips cause thats somethin i want to get into and could yall also do a a surf/pier fishing episode and give tips for that also Thanks Your Viewer - Connor
Happy new year Capt. Mike hope I can go fishing my cousin is captain of a charter he said he'll take his family (me,my dad, my cousin and my cousin's dad) on a 24 hour trip about 60 miles off shore for tuna swordfish dolphin and sharks
We used to fish straight mono, which is the ideal choice with pelagic game fish, especially fish that jump, however we have recently started fishing braid with mono 100 yard topcoats. You can fish smaller and lighter tackle with even greater line capacity. - Capt Mike
Heading down to Marathon in a few weeks...Looking for a setup I can drop the bottom with and light trolling. Would the 7' Daiwa Proteus with a Saltis 40 reel be a good overall setup? Thanks!
Zach OBryan A 7'0" rod rated for 15-30 lb line matched to a Saltist 40 with 20 or 30 lb. test sounds like a good, all around versatile outfit for what you are looking to do. Thank you for watching. - Capt Mike

Worst video I have watched in years! Far too many adverts and host's clearly haven't got any integrity, they will just promote whatever they are paid to use.

Why do you use mono on your big game stand up reels? Is there an advantage to mono vs dacron?
