Honestly imagine if H.G Wells saw the 2005 movie and how the future adaptations compared to what he imagined in his book while writing it. I think he be terrified
There is a reason why the 2005 tripods are the way they are. They are completely inspired the book, seeming to move in a almost biological manner, the reason they put shielding in is fairly obvious. In a modern day scenario a un shielded tripod is a dead tripod.
Yeah, but the point of the old ones were that they weren’t too technologically advanced (no shields) but the sheer amount of them was the reason why they were so strong.
@@rockyrocx234 No? There wasn't that many of them. Significantly less than in the movie. Point was, the Martians were still way ahead of humanity in the book.
@@rockyrocx234 no, what made them so strong was a mixture of their technological advancements and the fear they installed in humans. human artillery batteries worked fairly well against the fighting-machines, so they imployed black smoke to wipe out entire defensive lines in mere minutes. seeing how devastating the black smoke was, they installed fear into the humans in london, and, if anything, the whole world. despite that they really only conquered the london area, they probably caused even more to flee the whole british isles under the belief that britain had been defeated all together. as H.G. Wells put it, "it was the beginning of the rout of civilisation, of the massacre of mankind". also, the cylinders were occupied by about 5 martians, and only 10 landed over the course of the invasion, and each machine had one martian driver, so there were about 50 machines occupying london over the course of the war, excluding the five that were mentioned to have been destroyed (four fighting-machines destroyed by humans, one handling-machine destroyed by running into a building and being crushed by rubble).

Honestly, these are the most terrifying illustrations of the tripods to me. Everything is so creepy, out of place, ruthlessly industrial and uncanny. They look cartoonish to most people today, but you have to remember, both HG Wells and the artist who conceived these illustrations lived in a time in which there weren't even reliable flying planes yet, the Great War had yet to come, and these people were thinking about spaceships, aliens, and horrific walking war machines that could shoot heat rays that disintegrate human flesh and flay buildings and military equipment, withstand the strongest bombardments the army and navy could muster, and belch forth black clouds of choking smoke that turn living people into charred ghosts. That is some seriously horrifying stuff, and why the historical context and their understanding of extraterrestrials of the time make these drawings so haunting.
I remember the tripods I heard it last night when I Woke up I check out the backyard and it saw me and I Want To My Room And I Keep freaking Out Because I feel scared about this.
HG Wells Martian Fighting Machines are the original Robotech. Notice how they are made in the image of his description of the Martians themselves. Between his vivid imagination and the social commentary of "War of the Worlds" Wells was ahead of his time.
Comparing between the Alvim Correa, Ryan Church, and Warwick Goble tripods, if they were on a flat plain how would they run if they needed to? I personally think that the Alvim Correa tripod would lower to the ground and do a spider-like crawl while the Ryan Church tripod would do more of a gallop and I'm not even sure in the Warwick Goble tripod is even able to move.
