Having emulated the game, its not a real solution. It crashes and freezes often even after lots of manual optimization, not to mention you have to find all of the dlc files online if you want to play anything outside of the base game
@@spoonkus5893 maybe TT games could look at the programming codes of the game and even the character/vehicle packs and somehow program the characters and vehicle to a digital flat down version of them. And then in the game they could create a character or vehicle wheel option in the game. But this is just me guessing, I don’t know how they specifically make video games.
As someone who used to play Lego Dimensions on the Xbox 360 before switching to Xbox One, I can confirm the Xbox 360 version is very glitchy, and it often would crash, forcing me to close and reopen the game, without being able to save. Xbox One version was always superior to it.
Yup, same situation here! I had the game since day 1 on xbox 360 and I was missing all the same content as shown in this video (year 2, the level packs, and their adventure worlds). I just couldn't install the additional content and it drove me nuts!!
It would be AMAZING if we got something like a sequel or official digital re-release for the 10th Anniversary of LEGO Dimensions this year, but I don't see it happening because of all the franchise licensing involved. I hope the LEGO Dimensions community continues to grow because I love the game. I want to commend the community for all progress made preserving it through NFC technology, emulators, obtaining the DLC data, and uncovering the scrapped content. The reality is that eventually all the Toypads, original NFC tags, and discs will be gone, along with the rest of the online shops to download DLC. At that point, we will all have to use emulators and our own NFC tags. It does take a bit of research, so if anyone has questions about emulators or making LEGO Dimensions NFC tags, feel free to reply to this comment 👍
Here's the good news. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment renewed the trademark for LEGO Dimensions in 2022, which could indicate that they're still interested in the brand and may be developing a reboot. Hopefully the reboot will have the first 30 franchises from the original and I wonder what new franchises will be in the LEGO Dimensions reboot.
I’m sure the NFC Technology used for LEGO Dimensions won’t be gone, as I’ve found out that reports of the toy tags not working goes further back to 9 years ago, when Dimensions was nearly done with its Year 1 content. Plus as a Skylanders fan, you know that Skylanders can still work, even though by that logic, the technology used for the Skylanders games would’ve been vanished by 2015.
I usee to want this and sky landers so much but I hade a skylander toy but not the actual game because my mother didn't know how the game worked I wanna play the doctor who level of this tho apparently it's the best doctor who game which sounds kinda absorb but most doctor who games beely work
Licencing issues will hold back a port. The Sonic pack for instance should be easy to acquire, but other properties like Ghostbusters and Portal may take some money
@signoredelladistruzioneST2why? portal was on lego dimensions outside of steam before so what would change? also valve has allowed portal on other consoles before
The main 3 are gonna be difficult to even use. The particular batman used is owned by the lego batman director who left to make funko fusion out of spite of tt games, lotr has been sold back to its residence and theyre quite stingy on lotr. Lego movie moved to universal.
@signoredelladistruzioneST2 didn't they re-release the portal duology for the Nintendo switch? I don't think It would be hard to get the license for portal
Thanks for the Skylanders community, the problem of losing data from dying NFC chips is partially fixed. All that’s needed is the community made program and an NFC reader/writer and the data can be taken off an old figure
Yeah, lots of love from the Skylanders community ❤ and thankfully, all the tools needed to do this with Dimensions are really accessible. you just need a phone
After completing the Lego Dimensions story yesterday, after 9 years of playing it. Im now on a speed run to play it more often as one of my first brought characters called Zane has broken down after being used for 9 years. And honestly, this game must survive no matter the costs. It deserves a second chance.
that sucks because it's below the average lifespan of the NFC tech being used. Did you use the Zane tag every year for 9 years? If this happens with more of your characters I highly recommend you replace their chips but hopefully that was just a bad apple.
@ I think most people agree LEGO Dimensions is way better than disney infinity.. as much as I love star wars, dimensions offers more cool franchises and characters and more content overall. Disney infinity felt like a collection of half-baked side quests
For the Wii U, as it's the version I played for Lego Dimensions before buying a disk for the PS4, all year 1 levels are fully playable and requires no download whatsoever Year 2s are completely inaccessible, obviously, but you can still play as them
I remember reading that they had planned on releasing Vortec (the main villain) as a playable character who would have been able to access all of the hub worlds as the final character in a 10th wave or as part of a 3rd year but he was cancelled last minute. There’s unused voice lines for him being spawned in and using items leftover in the files. Real shame he was scrapped as not only would it have been a great way to send off the game but it would have helped solve the problem we’re having now with content not being accessible. (Though I bet scalpers would have gone crazy over him if released)
Playing it via an emulator is also a huge pain. Even if your pc can run it, the digital toypad is very slow (and often completely unresponsive), and it crashes frequently
I said as much in my original video, I’ve since heard that you can use a real toy pad with emulators now but regardless I’m just not that big into the idea of using a gaming pc to play the Wii u version of Dimensions…
Can confirm that emulating Dimensions is a nightmare. I had to go to different sites just to get all of the DLC (no, I don’t remember where I got them, so plz don’t ask). There are many things that can go wrong during the installation process as well and could very well require you to start over. Dimensions with all of its DLC takes up a lot of room. I would recommend installing it on an external hard drive. The virtual game pad is clunky and glitches a lot. Oftentimes, it's hard to move characters and vehicles around. Sometimes, it even duplicates those objects. I can't imagine what it would be like with a physical game pad. The biggest problem with the WiiU emulator is that certain vfx are not loaded in properly or are just straight up missing. I didn’t realize this until I saw a ps4 walk-through of the game. Now let me address some fallacies in the video. Emulating consoles with the exception of the WiiU is not hard. People make it sound like it is way harder than it actually is. A lot of the resources are also easy to use and find online. You don’t need a high-end computer with an i9 core or RTX series graphics card, etc. Lego games as a whole are one of the lowest rankings when it comes to performance requirements. You can run Dimensions on a potato. It'll be fine. Idk if it was mentioned, but you can also buy all the stands (idk what they're called) that the figures and builds stand on bricklink for 10 cents or less. Now they're without the figures and builds, obviously, but it’s pretty inexpensive. The last fallacy is that children won't be interested in a gams like this. I've seen lots of parents on Reddit trying to set up the emulated game for their kids. I mean you could argue that some kids might not want to deal with the glitchy virtual game pad, and I don’t blame them. But to say that no kid is playing this game is simply untrue. I know this is a lengthy comment, but I seriously wanted to thank you for bringing this up. I hate it when Lego games get lost to time.
Best case scenario, LEGO partners with literally ANYONE to release a Definitive Edition on all current gen consoles and PC. Realistic best case scenario, you buy/make your own NFC tags for all the content in the game and use a PS3 emulator with a most likely pirated copy of the game with all of the DLC. Worst case scenario, the game somehow becomes unemulatable, and all physical media for the game rots beyond salvaging with no digital backups of the data. If it hasn't been done already, I'd HIGHLY recommend a team of people to gather all of the game files (DLC included) and back them up, as well as scanning and archiving the NFC data for every game tag. If it isn't archived already, and we don't do it soon, it WILL be gone forever over time. Hell, upload all the NFC data to the Internet Archive, since Telltale Games and LEGO don't seem to care about this game. All it takes is one upload to the Internet Archive and fans to download it, and the data will NEVER be lost again, since countless people will just be able to reupload it if it ever gets taken down. That's what we need to do, take the hydra approach to this. That and also maybe petition for TTG and LEGO to release that aforementioned "Definitive Edition," since it's highly unlikely to happen unless enough people make enough noise about it.
I used to play this as a kid with my sister. By the time we were playing it, they weren’t really selling it in stores anymore. When I played it sometimes I thought, this would be so much better if it was just like any other Lego game where you just unlocked the characters in the game.
It’s sad to see one of the best Lego games slowly dieing out with its only remains being that 1 pack about sonic did a butterfly effect that gave us the Sonic sets all the rest will be lost to time I hope his game gets a pc version like Disney infinity or atleast a 2nd installment we can’t let this game become dust
And what makes this worse Is the scanning pads for characters will just eventually stop working due to time because the tech used eventually just give out from use
At the time it was the console many of the youngest players would've owned being that it was cheaper, tonnes of them out in the wild etc,. So aiming for a release on a console full of children made perfect sense for a toys to life LEGO game!
I lot of people where still playing 360 and PS3 back in 2015 and they where still regularly getting new releases. I believe the last Lego game of this generation would of been Star War: Force Awakens in 2017.
7:46 no, No, not the shut down games I never got the chance to play. We have a new mission this is beyond Lego Dimensions, WE MUST SAVE ALL THE GAMES, WE MUST SAVE: DEADPOOL, WAR FOR CYBERTRON, FALL OF CYBERTRON, LEGO DIMENSIONS, EVERYTHING WE CAN POSSIBLY SAVE WILL BE SAVED OR RETURNED
All that crap is downloaded onto my Xbox 360, I did it right before the shutdown, I also have the Simpson packs and I have never played the game before except to download the dlc. I should test if I can even access the dlc with it downloaded.
You should be good to go as your account “owns” the DLC and therefore you can redownload it as you please until Microsoft eventually stop supporting the console completely.
I played LEGO Dimensions a lot as a kid. Didn't have as many characters but had fun with them. ( I still have the game and a few of the characters). I do hope someone manages to port the game to PC.
Got into the game last week via PS5, been having a blast got some great deals and have characters such as Sonic, Homer, Sloth, Ethan Hunt, Raven, so much fun
8:49 No, it is not. I have played that version a lot. Every pack, character stuff, DLC games, sandbox, and the main story at least twice. Haven't encountered a single bug. I don't even know what "bugs" people claim it has.
Yikes.. Sadly the Xbox versions of the game are more expensive than the version for the Wii U.. cause of needing the exclusive gamepads for that console. But as a Wii U owner I can confirm you can play year 2 characters including Supergirl/Arrow. But since the eshop has closed, you can't download the free dlc for the game.. Whelp.. Time to get an Xbox One! 😂
I have a question. Since Ghostbusters 1984, The Simpsons, Doctor Who, and Back to the Future all released with a level pack AND at least one fun pack, could characters like Slimer, Bart, Cyberman, and Doc Brown be used to access those worlds on the Xbox360?
I am lucky and have the PS4 version of the game, so I can’t test it myself. Either way. The levels are still inaccessible, and so are the Portal 2 and Midway Arcade worlds since Chell and Gamer Kid are the only way to access either world respectively.
In theory yes since the download that's still possible and prompted before entering the game includes most (if not all) of the year 1 content and fun packs seem to be the only ones working without extra downloads...
I delete and redownload my Dimensions save data via the cloud whenever it suits me, but thanks to this video, I’m considering redownloading it and keeping it for good, just to be safe. Thanks again for bringing up some other warnings, such as the NFC rot (which I’ve dealt with) and the fact that not everyone uses emulators or mods. I felt heard on that last one. I may be an adult, but my age and my love of gaming doesn’t automatically make me a tech wiz. I don’t have the time or money to emulate, and I can’t risk fiddling with my computer when I need it for work.
Toys to Life games really came and went in a blur and while unlikely to return I think Lego Dimensions did it best. But it's going the way of...honestly a lot of games from that era in the sense that everyone's playing it safe console/accessory wise so there won't be a good way to play them in the future.
I say since you have brought attention to the issue I think your the most suitable person to make a real petition so we get a digital version or all in one physical edition
@@harrytaylor9702They'd have to renew so many licenses and if it's all in the one game they probably won't agree cause the money they'd make isn't that much
I am so glad I went through the trouble of 100%ing this game on Wii U a few years ago. Sad to know it will be nearly impossible for newer players to experience most of the game
Id be cool if TT re-released Lego Dimensions, and to solve the licensing problems they could just sell the worlds and all their content like characters, vehiacles and toy pad stuff as DLC. Namco did that in an arcade collection where they still selling Ms.Pacman as DLC for that collection, since they don't really own ms pacman and her arcade game
I think the sad reality is every toys to life game is at some form of risk of being lost or at least having content be inaccessible without using outside software like nfc readers or writers its just the reality of these games being incredibly inaccessible and the only one that is fully accessible is starlink battle for atlas probably the most forgotten toys to life game, even Disney infinity's gold edition is missing content such as the circular power discs from 1.0 aren't included in any game and 3.0 is missing all the content they added after the games release such as the finding dory play set. However dimensions is definitely the worst of it because of the content manager system heck when year 2 first came out I remember running into a lot of problems on the PS3 version of the game and couldn't even access the harry potter world despite having it installed (although I'm unsure if this was because of how old my PS3 is) but the main problem I had and the reason why I moved over to PS4/5 was because of how glitchy the game was with constant crashes I couldn't even complete the adventure time level pack because of just how often it crashed out of nowhere. I absolutely love Lego dimensions but I think the only way it can be saved is by the efforts of the community as we can't expect Tt or WB to port the games to pc like Disney done purely because of how many licenses are in this game.
My parents bought me the 360 version the Christmas that was launched and I was a faithful follower of this game up until like the first wave of year 2. The packs began to be stupidly expensive and yeah downloads took forever and since I was a toddler back then I thoght that without those extra downloads the game wouldn't work, so I left the console downloading at night and the next day everything would be ready to use. I'm missing most of year 2, I think I only have the Powerpuff girls and they still work normally. So yeah if you downloaded everything before the marketplace shutdown in a non modded 360 everything should be good to go...
Dunno if its a problem with my disc or the NFCs but last year i was in a wiiu binge and opened up lego dimensions again to play it and it would take a REALLY long time to either load in a specific vehicle or just load into the levels in the first place. The fact that a lot of content is locked behind having the extra sets is also one of the big reasons why I wish it got a rerelease on Steam like disney infinity
I never played Lego Dimensions even thought I have a Wii U, but thank you for letting people know about the situation, I hope it doesn't become lost media.
I really miss this game and I think there should be some kind of a movement to make TT reconsider making a digital version of it although regaining the licenses required won't be easy
You know… a long while ago when Dimensions was first discontinued. I thought “Damn.. all I ever wanted was a Lego Lord Vortech.” But now we’re at this state.
this was THE game for me as a kid. I have sunk so many hours into just messing around in the Portal 2 world alone, even with the weaker WII U hardware and a losing a lot of the pieces for the sets. It was the gate to finding loads of new franchises to get into, and it built on top of ones i already knew. I really hope Dimensions finds a way to live on, as Lego games really were what made me want to get into video games in the first place.
if they were to make a fully digital version of the game to fix the toy pad interaction issue they'd probably have a screen pop up in the corner were you could move stuff much like is done when emulating the game just in game instead of another window
6:22 Oh good i was planning on playing the Sonic DLC on my series X nice to know that works. edit: uh I’ve heard talk that the Xbox one version doesn’t work on series x, you got anything to shut that rumor down? Last thing i wanna do is spend money on something that doesn’t work
Man as a guy that never got into Lego Dimensions because the market was so filled with toys to life games at the time, Skylanders and Disney Infinity was enough for me at the time lol. Its sad to see if I wanted to check the game out on 360 it would be harder access all the content. Luckily I have a modded 360 so I probably can still get the dlc, as long as it was preserved. I also don't know the price range the figures are currently sitting at. I honestly might check out the game if making NFC cards for it, is as easy as it is for Skylanders.
Seeing all the loss of this content will always break my heart. People were never big fans of this game, but even it doesn't deserve to be shredded into obscurity!
This is now the worst day ever in my life because I used to play it on my Wii u and my favourite characters to play as are Shaggy, Homer, Harry Potter and Peter Venkman and I am now sad that the DLC's are now gone and we didn't get year 3.
Wait if the issue is you can't access the adventure world because the character was in a level pack couldn't you use Bart doc brown slimer and cyberman? I know that doesn't access the level and portal and midway arcade is still gone but at least it's more adventure worlds then before
I remember even before the eshop went down it was too buggy on the Wii U. I tried playing as Sonic and it kept asking me to download his stuff and that message just kept popping up over and over for me. What I think is we should get a port of the game for the new Consoles plus the Switch 2 whenever that releases. However, it should just be the full content right away and make the extra stuff like the toy pad unnecessary and just have it be like the regular LEGO games. I think if they also plan to take the stuff off the digital stores it should have a required update to instantly unlock all of the content but still require the characters to access it. Now it’s already on there, you just need the characters to play in the world.
It's such a massive shame to see this game slowly fizzle out. A definitive version with all content that doesn't require the use of a Toy pad would be really beneficial.
Nintendo: "Stop Pirating our Games." Fans: "Ok, will you give us easier ways to play your games that are being phased out?" Nintendo: "I don't know. Doubt it." Fans: "Then I guess we will keep Pirating your Games." Nintendo: "You Son Of A. . . "
I remember when I got Lego Dimensions for the PS3. (It was also kinda recent too) I started downloading the other DLC levels to try to preserve the game. Though, I'm hoping to find a copy for the PS4. I've always hated to see something great left unfinished.
Is there a way that we could create some kind of online collective of all the dlc files? With how many people have enjoyed this game, surely a lot of us have a good chunk of the downloaded dlc somewhere
i swear this the best example of how it does not matter after a certain point of having physical or digital on consoles. although i think anyone should have a disc tray lol. maybe i’m crazy but seems like it’s more about having the full game being finished at release and it not requiring an internet connection or continuous patches/dlcs
It's a weird mismash of the two with Dimensions. It's a physical product that relies heavily on extra updates... I wish they'd just done a Year 2 version of the game with all of the content on disc.
I'd imagine the main issue with bringing this game back digitally at least would be getting the rights to ALL of that stuff again, considering the giant smorgasbord of popular franchises that were in it.
You never even mentioned the fact that the toy tags decay over time. I never knew this until like last year when I wanted to replay the game and tried placing a few of my old figures from when I was a kid onto the toy pad and was devastated to learn that the NFC Chips inside the figures decay and I cannot play as some of my favorite characters in the game
I'm quite lucky to have an Xbox One and complete figure collection with all DLC downloaded. My brother has a PS4, maybe we should see about downloading the game onto that before it's lost for good. Also, the emulators support the actual toypad now!? That's great news! Still nowhere near as good as an official PC port, but the physical aspect of Dimensions was one of the things I really liked about it. I hope we get something official, but with licensing being how it is I strongly doubt it.
A few months ago I picked up my WiiU again to finally complete the main story and also play around with some other characters I still had but rarely used. I was so disappointed that I could not download the content for a lot of characters and worlds which I bought years prior. Even if this game would get a fully digital re-release, I wouldn't be able to download the additional contant as the WiiU online shop shut down. And I wasn't aware that it shut down until I played dimensions again. If I had known prior I would've claimed all DLCs so I could still download them in the future
The sad thing is that on the Xbox 360 version, you couldn’t even 100% it anyway. In the adventure time world, there was a skin that Finn could obtain (fern). But fern was never implemented in that version…
The 360 store is shut down so any chance to download is literally impossible now as of July 2024 it’s not broken or anything just that you literally can’t do anything even if you wanted
Just to confirm, what do you mean by not getting the in-game downloads to work? Although the store is shut down, already "owned" content that still requires claiming such as season pass dlc should still be able to claim through the in-game store. Just the other week I was able to add the level packs for Star Wars TFA to my account by having bought the season pass before the shutdown, although it took a couple attempts. If it can't download while the game is running, you can find the dlc in your download history.
I don’t already own the DLC for 360. As a “new” player, or even as someone that didn’t claim all of the dlc before the shutdown you will never be able to get it legitimately. The content manager does nothing from the main menu now, the store doesn’t list dimensions dlc at all and even if it did it wouldn’t let you install it unless you already have it in your download history section.
I have the Wii U version and as it stands right now I’m happy with the things I have for it right now (Ghostbusters ‘84, BTTF, Sonic, Beetlejuice, Sonic, Scooby-Doo, and both Doctor Who packs, and portal) but I do agree, we need a digital release and or have it be emulated
Are you on the original 360 I bet the store works on emulated 360 of the Xbox One that’s how I got the dlc for new Vegas before Microsoft bought Bethesda and added them ? If it doesn’t work that would be sad
I really miss this game. My all time favorite Lego game. But I had to give up when. My game tags started dying. It really needs a digital rerelease. This game is amazing and needs to be preserved/come back. Just rework the gamepad to something onscreen and make all the little expansions paid dlc and they can still make money from it. There’s no reason for them not to do this other than “we don’t want to”
The 360 simply has no access to any downloads for the game other than the patch when you first boot it up. It won’t let you download any of the files needed for Y2 characters.
As someone with absolutely no technical or digital knowhow, maybe the solutuon could be to essentially stitch it onto another Lego game? Using a Lego game that has the same engine, taking the code from Dimensions, and then grafting it onto the other Lego game? That way the whole thing is running natively on PC. It still doesn't solve the issue of accessibility but it's a hypothetical I thought of.
I bought a copy of the game for Wii U last year but haven't been able to actually play it because I don't have the portal. It's rather unfortunate to know that I will never be able to experience the full package since the E-Shop on Wii U is no longer available. I'll probably get the PS3 or PS4 versions at some point so that I can enjoy all the content.
compared to most lego from 2015-2017 dimensions is mostly pretty reasonably priced as in some got cheaper, which is weird for lego and others arent much more than they originally were, then you got sonic why are you 100$
WB has always been the absolute worst when it comes to game preservation. 4thsnake made a video regarding which MK game you can currently play on pc and newer consoles. To put it simply: The arcade versions for the original trilogy are only available on the Arcade1UP cabinet, with a fatal bug that bricks one of the games if you try putting in your initials at the name entry screen. Not to mention the GOG versions are DOS ports, and the only other way to play the arcade trilogy was delisted from Steam years ago while the Xbox 360 listing got taken down along with the 360 store. MK4 and Trilogy are available on GOG but not Gold; Mythologies, Special Forces, Shaolin Monks, and the 3D era trilogy were never re-released, and neither was MK Vs DC; and MK9, the first MK game made since WB bought the franchise, is no longer available on Steam.
As much as I’d love to do that, I don’t think talking explicitly about piracy is a good idea (legally) and there are definitely better people out there who have done that already! Also, I’m just not that personally bothered about emulating the worst versions of the game when my Xbox Series X is currently playing it ok!
@ Weird I was able to get it running on Cemu just fine, and with my own save data brought out of my old Wii U, as well Maybe when you started it in Cemu, you had an empty save data folder that needed something in it?
You mention it briefly but there's also one enormous caveat to all this; Affording it to begin with. As you mention LEGO appreciates in value and now that this is happening, this already very expensive game to collect content for is only getting more expensive, the Sonic the Hedgehog pack altogether routinely retails for well over $100 USD, meaning even if you can salvage all that content, the ugly world of LEGO collecting is only going to make actually utilizing any of it even uglier.
Yeah I got a ps5 and ps3 and wanted to check out Lego Dimensions because of the Sonic pack (I'm a Sonic fan). Then I looked up the prices and saw the game disk was pretty cheap but then I saw the prices for the Sonic pack and the toypad and I gave up buying it (they were like over 100$) 😅 I hope that the fans of this game will make a fan made pc port of it or will perfect emulating it since I would like to try it one day.
i am so put off from playing lego dimensions on my wii u for these reasons, as i likely said last time. my toy pad & lego figures have been sitting in a few (easy to find) places since i last touched it 7+ years ago, but it's just the content system worrying me. also, i never checked my copy for disc rot! yoshi's woolly world has actually rotted away on me, and i'll be super upset if mario maker, splatoon, lego dimensions, or smash even think about doing that on me!
None of my ps2, ps3 and Wii games have any disk rot. Are you keeping them in a dry cupboard? Also maybe get a dehumidifier device for your home as well. Disks usually start to rot because of either high humidity or sunlight.
My copy of lego dimensions (ps3) straight up stopped working after getting a certain amount year 2 level packs, first the downloads took forever and then it wouldn't even go past the title screen
This and the previous video has made me really thankful that last year I cracked down and managed to 100% dimensions (ps4 with dup tags) for the first time glad I was able to do it while it’s still available hopefully through some method this game can stand the test of time cause it’s too good to simply be forgotten
Meanwhile, all the Skylanders games are fully compatible with all of their respective figures no internet required. The only exception to this is with the 6th game, Imaginators, which needs one update to unlock two levels and some imaginite that go with Lost Imaginite mines and Cursed Tiki temple.
ooo look at the sexy man included at 11:47 idk who he is On a more serious note though, a couple of my friends have been experimenting with the game since I made the comment on the last video. So far all that's come out of it is adding characters to the roster (Vortech) and trying to get the broken built in character select to work. Not much else though. As for a couple of amendments on my old comment; Dx9 probably does exist, I asked for confirmation but the way I worded it to my friend who specializes in Dx11 didn't understand it, that's my fault. There is in fact 1 LEGO game console mod. It's a port of Iron Man to Dimensions and it's literally just a Cyberman reskin. So obviously it's not that technically advanced. And as of more of an update, due to drama certain important modders (Including people who have specific knowledge that not many others have) have left the LEGO modding server. I'd say it's probably best to just stick to the Dimensions server until everything heals.
Having emulated the game, its not a real solution. It crashes and freezes often even after lots of manual optimization, not to mention you have to find all of the dlc files online if you want to play anything outside of the base game
Just gonna pin this one and leave it here... thank you!
even emulation is not the answer. we are fucked

Wii u edition:
I've never played it but I've watched playthroughs and, yes on most consoles it will crash or delete something
I have it on the 360 and it would always crash on a Simpson cutscene
I’m just leaving a reply here both to boost this and so I can see what others say :)
Are the NFC tags for the DLC/characters? How do I male the tags? Can all Xbox/Playstation emulators get LEGO Dimensions on play?
I can’t be happy with this slowly being lost…
A digital port without toys to life and a soft reboot need to happen ASAP!
Definitely not portal considering how chill Valve is,however id imagine they’d only release the game on steam if they did put the portal content
@@cutekyuu1 out of spite? but isn't funko fusion also by tt games
@signoredelladistruzioneST2 didn't they re-release the portal duology for the Nintendo switch?
I don't think It would be hard to get the license for portal
Lego Dimensions was the greatest LEGO crossover and was my favorite game.
Thanks for the Skylanders community, the problem of losing data from dying NFC chips is partially fixed. All that’s needed is the community made program and an NFC reader/writer and the data can be taken off an old figure
Yeah, lots of love from the Skylanders community ❤
and thankfully, all the tools needed to do this with Dimensions are really accessible. you just need a phone
There's even a portal emulator that allows you to plug a raspberry pi onto your console (or emulator)
@Fancy2209Real dolphin emulator (Wii) has a built in skylanders dock with every character in a scroll list. It’s amazing!
Fun fact! There is a lego dimensions app that is as i know fully intact but unfortunately VERY VERY ABANDONED
I actlly saw it when I was younger. I believe it was to buy & save sets?
What's the name of the app?
After completing the Lego Dimensions story yesterday, after 9 years of playing it. Im now on a speed run to play it more often as one of my first brought characters called Zane has broken down after being used for 9 years.
And honestly, this game must survive no matter the costs.
It deserves a second chance.
that sucks because it's below the average lifespan of the NFC tech being used. Did you use the Zane tag every year for 9 years?
If this happens with more of your characters I highly recommend you replace their chips but hopefully that was just a bad apple.
Just play Disney infinity 😂 Lego dimensions isn’t THAT good of a game. But it was fun until it corrupted my data
@ I think most people agree LEGO Dimensions is way better than disney infinity.. as much as I love star wars, dimensions offers more cool franchises and characters and more content overall. Disney infinity felt like a collection of half-baked side quests
Bro I would download all of the year 2 dlc, but my ps3 keeps messing up on the update for Lego dimensions😭
I got an app on an iphone that reads nfc tags and found that after I had it read one of my tags that died, it started working again.
For the Wii U, as it's the version I played for Lego Dimensions before buying a disk for the PS4, all year 1 levels are fully playable and requires no download whatsoever
Year 2s are completely inaccessible, obviously, but you can still play as them
I remember reading that they had planned on releasing Vortec (the main villain) as a playable character who would have been able to access all of the hub worlds as the final character in a 10th wave or as part of a 3rd year but he was cancelled last minute.
I'm emulating the Wii U version but using a real toypad with custom NFC tags - works perfectly @@GoblinBricks
We need a sequel to this game or something, it would be so awesome
Maybe you could send all the DLC into a specific site for the community, that'd actually help a lot
It’s sad to see one of the best Lego games slowly dieing out with its only remains being that 1 pack about sonic did a butterfly effect that gave us the Sonic sets all the rest will be lost to time
I hope his game gets a pc version like Disney infinity or atleast a 2nd installment we can’t let this game become dust
And what makes this worse Is the scanning pads for characters will just eventually stop working due to time because the tech used eventually just give out from use
The most surprising thing to me is that the game was released on 360 to begin with
And that was the version I played while the game was still alive.
and ps3. The fact those consoles got attention was surprising.
I believe the last Lego game of this generation would of been Star War: Force Awakens in 2017.
something else to keep in mind: if you download the dlc packs? make backups of your hard drives since they can also stop working or get corrupted
Man I really hope that the stopkillinggames movement catch on to prevent that in the future.
WFC and FOC are on the internet archive
All that crap is downloaded onto my Xbox 360, I did it right before the shutdown, I also have the Simpson packs and I have never played the game before except to download the dlc. I should test if I can even access the dlc with it downloaded.
You should be good to go as your account “owns” the DLC and therefore you can redownload it as you please until Microsoft eventually stop supporting the console completely.
I used to watch LEGO dimensions vids a ton as a kid, so this is pretty sad
I’d like to say because you showed it, I miss the transformer war of cybertron game, it was so good
Never really played it myself, but a friend suggested it as a good example!
I have Sonic. That’s all the matters to me.
(but I regret not getting Gremlins during my last minute Wii U eShop spree)
I have the PS4 version and have all characters.
Nice
That's awesome!
That makes you the last Lego Master Builder.😨
@@Lemuel928 With. I didn't realize that 😳
More testing is needed but from what I remember using Bart or Doc Brown makes no difference as those hub worlds are tied to the level pack updates.
@@GoblinBricksI think you have to do the level to unlock the hub world
Do what you want cause a pirate is free,
You are a pirate!
It’s never gonna happen unfortunately. Disney was united under one company, but the brands in Lego Dimensions have all gone in different directions.
@@harrytaylor9702They'd have to renew so many licenses and if it's all in the one game they probably won't agree cause the money they'd make isn't that much
9:51 ah yes the glowing sea 😭
I can assure you as a child I was pirating. But admittedly I was not an normal child
From my understanding, Nintendo seems to be the only company sticking to have physical copies
I really miss this game and I think there should be some kind of a movement to make TT reconsider making a digital version of it although regaining the licenses required won't be easy
You know… a long while ago when Dimensions was first discontinued. I thought
“Damn.. all I ever wanted was a Lego Lord Vortech.”
But now we’re at this state.
this was THE game for me as a kid. I have sunk so many hours into just messing around in the Portal 2 world alone, even with the weaker WII U hardware and a losing a lot of the pieces for the sets. It was the gate to finding loads of new franchises to get into, and it built on top of ones i already knew. I really hope Dimensions finds a way to live on, as Lego games really were what made me want to get into video games in the first place.
being someone who grew up with the 360, and despite never having played lego dimensions(i really want to) this really breaks my heart
if they were to make a fully digital version of the game to fix the toy pad interaction issue they'd probably have a screen pop up in the corner were you could move stuff much like is done when emulating the game just in game instead of another window
6:22 Oh good i was planning on playing the Sonic DLC on my series X nice to know that works. edit: uh I’ve heard talk that the Xbox one version doesn’t work on series x, you got anything to shut that rumor down? Last thing i wanna do is spend money on something that doesn’t work
Xbox One version definitely works on Xbox Series X, that's what I use it on.
Have you tried accessing the Simpsons and Ghostbusters adventure worlds using the fun packs for those franchises?
If LEGO gets the money and licenses for a remastered LEGO Dimensions I would be happy.
This game seriously needs a remake, or just a sequel.
I’ve still not tested Wii U, but I think the year 1 stuff *should* be fine on there? Can’t say 100% but hopefully it works
Wait if the issue is you can't access the adventure world because the character was in a level pack couldn't you use Bart doc brown slimer and cyberman? I know that doesn't access the level and portal and midway arcade is still gone but at least it's more adventure worlds then before
I was looking on the ps5 & I cant find any of the free LEGO Dimensions packs. Where can I claim them?
Nintendo: "Stop Pirating our Games."
Fans: "Ok, will you give us easier ways to play your games that are being phased out?"
Nintendo: "I don't know. Doubt it."
Fans: "Then I guess we will keep Pirating your Games."
Nintendo: "You Son Of A. . . "
This isn't just a Nintendo problem.
Besides the Wii U being mentioned, this Nintendo is barely mentioned in this video.
I remember when I got Lego Dimensions for the PS3. (It was also kinda recent too) I started downloading the other DLC levels to try to preserve the game. Though, I'm hoping to find a copy for the PS4. I've always hated to see something great left unfinished.
Being a toys to life fan who’s only touched on Skylanders for the longest time it’s great to see you make awareness of this massive issue
Thank you! All I'm trying to do is warn people that this is happening and to claim their free DLC ASAP to avoid it happening to them!
I always wanted to play the Portal Pack because I loved Portal 2 as a kid.
Portal 2 is E L I T E
Curiously, did you claim all the DLC before shut down or have you modded your console?
Are you on the original 360 I bet the store works on emulated 360 of the Xbox One that’s how I got the dlc for new Vegas before Microsoft bought Bethesda and added them ? If it doesn’t work that would be sad
I Ordered Sonic The Hedgehog For Lego Dimensions And The Toy Tag Part Is Coming Today. I Ordered The Toy Tag And The Minifigure Separately
There’s no reason for them not to do this other than “we don’t want to”
This was my favorite Lego game and I’m so sad to see it go!
Wait im confused if your trying to access the levels and putting down the character why cant you access the level?
The 360 simply has no access to any downloads for the game other than the patch when you first boot it up.
It won’t let you download any of the files needed for Y2 characters.
I would play lego dimensions but I'm not really a big fan of spending even more money for toys in a "games-to-life" game
Yeah me neither. The packs and toypad go over 100$ 😅
As someone with absolutely no technical or digital knowhow, maybe the solutuon could be to essentially stitch it onto another Lego game? Using a Lego game that has the same engine, taking the code from Dimensions, and then grafting it onto the other Lego game? That way the whole thing is running natively on PC. It still doesn't solve the issue of accessibility but it's a hypothetical I thought of.
I bought a copy of the game for Wii U last year but haven't been able to actually play it because I don't have the portal. It's rather unfortunate to know that I will never be able to experience the full package since the E-Shop on Wii U is no longer available. I'll probably get the PS3 or PS4 versions at some point so that I can enjoy all the content.
compared to most lego from 2015-2017 dimensions is mostly pretty reasonably priced as in some got cheaper, which is weird for lego and others arent much more than they originally were, then you got sonic why are you 100$
We lost Springfield AND HILL VALLEY AND GREEN HILL ZONE, THE MAIN 3 REASONS I WANTED TO PLAY THE GAME, NOOOOO!!!!
Only currently lost on 360!
That's why you mod your console guys
WB has always been the absolute worst when it comes to game preservation.
4thsnake made a video regarding which MK game you can currently play on pc and newer consoles. To put it simply:
The arcade versions for the original trilogy are only available on the Arcade1UP cabinet, with a fatal bug that bricks one of the games if you try putting in your initials at the name entry screen.
2:51 that’s happening to me
It would be amazing if you made a video talking about how to play the game on the Cemu emulator, and where to safely find all the needed files
As much as I’d love to do that, I don’t think talking explicitly about piracy is a good idea (legally) and there are definitely better people out there who have done that already!
Also, I’m just not that personally bothered about emulating the worst versions of the game when my Xbox Series X is currently playing it ok!
I tried emulating it on both Cemu and Ps3 emulator but the game doesn't even start. It's a black screen 😅
@ Weird
I was able to get it running on Cemu just fine, and with my own save data brought out of my old Wii U, as well
Maybe when you started it in Cemu, you had an empty save data folder that needed something in it?
@@justsomefox8910 It was empty. At least i didn't import any save data files.
It really is a perfect storm of BS on all sides unfortunately
Yeah I got a ps5 and ps3 and wanted to check out Lego Dimensions because of the Sonic pack (I'm a Sonic fan). Then I looked up the prices and saw the game disk was pretty cheap but then I saw the prices for the Sonic pack and the toypad and I gave up buying it (they were like over 100$) 😅
I hope that the fans of this game will make a fan made pc port of it or will perfect emulating it since I would like to try it one day.
Once again, why to this day, I never, ever deinstalled this game from my ps4 cause I knew this day would come some day and it's a real shame-
Can we stop making so much lost media for the sake of it?
i am so put off from playing lego dimensions on my wii u for these reasons, as i likely said last time. my toy pad & lego figures have been sitting in a few (easy to find) places since i last touched it 7+ years ago, but it's just the content system worrying me. also, i never checked my copy for disc rot! yoshi's woolly world has actually rotted away on me, and i'll be super upset if mario maker, splatoon, lego dimensions, or smash even think about doing that on me!
Wouldn't every old disc suffer disc rot?
None of my ps2, ps3 and Wii games have any disk rot. Are you keeping them in a dry cupboard? Also maybe get a dehumidifier device for your home as well. Disks usually start to rot because of either high humidity or sunlight.
My copy of lego dimensions (ps3) straight up stopped working after getting a certain amount year 2 level packs, first the downloads took forever and then it wouldn't even go past the title screen
Ps3 first requires the disc to get all the dlc, after you once downloaded them you are able to redownload them through the store.
Wait so for ps4 I can't access any of the dlc???
This and the previous video has made me really thankful that last year I cracked down and managed to 100% dimensions (ps4 with dup tags) for the first time glad I was able to do it while it’s still available hopefully through some method this game can stand the test of time cause it’s too good to simply be forgotten
Meanwhile, all the Skylanders games are fully compatible with all of their respective figures no internet required. The only exception to this is with the 6th game, Imaginators, which needs one update to unlock two levels and some imaginite that go with Lost Imaginite mines and Cursed Tiki temple.
ooo look at the sexy man included at 11:47 idk who he is
On a more serious note though, a couple of my friends have been experimenting with the game since I made the comment on the last video. So far all that's come out of it is adding characters to the roster (Vortech) and trying to get the broken built in character select to work. Not much else though.
As for a couple of amendments on my old comment;
Dx9 probably does exist, I asked for confirmation but the way I worded it to my friend who specializes in Dx11 didn't understand it, that's my fault.
Unikitty is sexy
I hope someday they can fix the gatchs in the game
