- Recently, Michael Jordan proclaimed that he believes Magic Johnson is the greatest point guard of all time. Michael responded to Steph Curry self-proclaiming & Stephen A Smith co-signing that Steph Curry has "passed" Magic Johnson, All-Time, with the following statement: "Although greatest of anything is always a debate, I beg to differ on greatest point guard of all-time… Magic Johnson is easily the best point guard of all time. Steph Curry is very close, but not in front of Magic,” Jordan said, per Stephen A Smith.
Jordan did add in his message to Stephen A Smith that he believes Curry is “by far the best shooter of all time.” However, Jordan wrote that Johnson “invented the triple-double” and pointed out that Magic has five NBA titles, one more than Curry.
All-Time debates are fun. But this debate serves as a reminder of the time that Magic Johnson & Michael Jordan battled head to head in a point guard battle, at the Great Western Forum!

Did the voters get it right? Jordan definitely had a very strong case. History is history and the MVP is Magic Johnson's. But.... one last thing to consider, just to illustrate that Jordan played in the tougher conference:
Magic's 89 Lakers vs West: 43-15 (74.1% win%)
Magic's 89 Lakers vs East: 14-10 (58.3% win %)
Jordan's 89 Bulls vs West: 19-7 (73.1% win%)

MJ could have gotten more assists if his team mates didn't suck. There were a lot of missed open shots.
I just saw in the description that you put up their record against each conference that year. It's incredible how much stronger Jordan's conference was !! And despite the tougher competition he averaged 32.5 points per game, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block on 54% shooting, that's a crazy stat line ! I truly love Magic, but MJ got absolutely ROBBED that year !
Yes, he did get robbed. This was the second-best season recorded individually ever in the NBA. The following season was ranked 5th best ever and got robbed again. 2 MVPS! stolen.
1. 1988 MJ
2. 1989 MJ
3. 2000 SHAQ
4. 1994 DAVID ROBINSON
5. 1990 MJ
He was still being labeled as a ball hog who can score but not win it all. You have to remember the context that the scoring champ would usually not be the MVP as they often played for .500 or worse teams. He’d obviously break that mold in the 90s but would still get skipped on many MVP worthy seasons
the golden era. outstanding.
Thanks for posting this one! Mike did very well role as PG. It was short term and many dont know he did that. It increased assists but lowered his ppg avg. His passing skills are underrated.
Rodman played Center for Bulls at times. He held it down. Great players are multi talented & versatile. I miss these old school times! I got to watch them live growing up!
watching these two clash is always a treat thanks for footage
This years MVP should have went to Jordan

Crazy how long some of the announcers have been in the business.
Magic and mj good stuff
Bruce, there are several channels now exposing this fake GOAT comparison..you pioneered that topic. We need more of your truth spilling vids.. crank it up baby
18:30 commentator talks about AC Green making 80 of 100 practicing shooting at the top of the key. We went to a Lakers game when I was like 12 years old- AC was at the baseline shooting a foot behind the 3pt line, and he hit like 20 straight shots in a row. These guys are so skilled it's not even funny!!
that 65% freethrower that's not good!.. the announcer just burned scottie
At 12:00 if Scottie would've gotten that dunk on AC Green that would've been SICK!!😮
Michael Vs Magic
Dave Corzine? I guess I just never got it.
