Recently I’ve found an amazing machine gun build that has been carrying me through Helldive difficulty against bots.
Wear heavy armor, either the 50% explosion damage reduction or the +2 extra grenades passive
For your primary, pick something that can stagger devastators for when you run out of machine gun ammo. Usually I go with either the Jar-5 Dominator or the Punisher plasma shotgun.
For your secondary choose the grenade pistol to blow up fabricators and deal with those AT-ST guys.
For your grenade, pick the stun grenade which will be vital against heavy armor opponents like Hulks which you can walk around and shoot their back
For your machine gun, choose the original MG-43 machine gun. The damage and ammo capacity are amazing. You’ll be able to clean through any bot save the hulks. To make this MG-43 really purr, change the rpm to 900.
Next I usually go with the supply pack, just to feed the MG-43 for as long as possible. But you can also pick the jump pack or shield generator. Just keep in mind you won’t have as much ammo for the MG-43
For stratagems, it’s usually dependent on the mission

I’ve been running the LMG consistently since level 1, now level 80. Really solid support stratagem that people are far too dismissive of. The magazine size is plenty, imo and making it any bigger would really conflict with the viability of the Stalwart because of the medium armor pen. The medium armor pen MAKE this support weapon incredible. You do have to be judicious with your targets for ammo economy concerns, but light armor can be shredded in a pinch with it. If you can’t find an opportunity to reload stationary for four seconds, it might be a skill issue or you are pulling too much aggro. The value of something that consistently manages medium armor is underrated, since primary weapons that can manage it don’t have as comfortable of a mag size or TTK.
yep, and the minimal fire rate is perfect for suppressive fire....

Actually, went Stalwart, LMG, Stalwart, HMG only to end up with Penetratos as primary and quasar.... as this rifle is more flexibile, goes through medium and cant be actully aimed! 😄
People really should get better at marking targets. Seeing a Titan marching towards you and not immediately marking it to make the rest of your squad aware of what's coming is just insane to me. *And you're all level 50+*
And the target marker is visible for people dropping in, so they can choose to aim for it.
@@HarryVoyager Exactly, marking any 'heavy' target should pretty much be mandatory because of this xD Easiest way to kill/finish off chargers, titans, hulks, devestators and more.
The MG is a lot better when you pick your targets instead of just spraying and praying full auto
I find the MMG and most automatics incredibly annoying because the muzzle flash is so damn bright I can't see what I'm shooting at

mg for bots is kinda goated. Medium armor pen, shreds bots, and since you're typically fighting at range you don't have to worry so much about stopping to reload in the middle of a bug breach.
People under estimate that machine gun, and I tell em so. It can rattle it's way into some armors higher than light, the damage is good, and people forget or dont know they can hold that reload key and toggle the higher RPM to lay damage down all the faster. Know to pull that gun down a bit from the kick back, or even crouch with an armor that helps that stability, and you can become a damage hose to many targets. 🏴☠
People underestimate it's potential against bots. Suppressing fire is incredibly good in that it reduces enemy accuracy and ensure your team can effectively fight back or fall back.
Even if you don't have a accuracy armor on crouching and prone still help with accuracy.
Stalwart+Dominator for bug missions or MG-43+Eruptor for bot missions has been working great for me. I really like the idea of switching roles between primary and support weapons.
Apart from the Dominator and Eruptor, other primaries such as the Counter-Sniper could also be adjusted to fill this role. Maybe even add the Break-Action Shotgun as a deployable strat in order for it to fit this kind of build as well...
An improved ammo options would be nice for our kinetic loadouts. AP ammo that does less dmg to anything not Medium Armor or better. Sabot ammo to shred light armor targets. Incendiary ammo, so forth and so on. They could be unlockable like the stratagems and simply assigned along side when the applicable support weapon is chosen. Imagine drawing the grenade launcher with full Stun Grenade loadout or Incendiary? Could make them even more versatile and effective. Same with making the various Armor Types into Kits that can be assigned to whichever armor you want to rock. It would allow for a far greater variety of loadouts and choices without affecting the game balance as the various armor types already have their pros and cons built in.
The machine gun stratagem has been the first stratagem we get, and it’s super powerful against the bugs ESPECIALLY ON HIGHER DIFFICULITES. I’ve been using this on helldive difficulty with the classic set of supply pack and machine gun
If you sacrifice the supply pack for the jet pack, you can reload the machine gun partway through the jetpack jump. This helps you reload whilst being chased
Try the Jump Pack with the MG-43 to mitigate the stationary reload (you can start the animation mid-air).
the grenade pistol just like rifles has the "round in the chamber" when you drop its not suppose to have that effect but i believe its hardwired into the code of the game with all weapons just like when you do a partial reload they never do the charging bolt animation if it wasnt empty but if you empty the clip you do the full reload animation
so thats why the first shot always has 1 extra shot
@bigsadge747 if you reload before empty mag you will always have an extra shot as ones in the chamber when you reload
My only problem with the machine gun is that at higher levels there is so much armour around that you often need an armour cracking support weapon. If the other three in your squad have it covered then fine, but otherwise you can quickly run our of stratagems and be stuck being chased around waiting for cool downs.
Thats why you bting an EAT because u get 2 and it only takes 90s
You can reload the machine gun on the move if you take a jump pack, jump, and hit reload at the same time. It can be handy in a pinch to say the least. And the enemy is always looking to pinch you off on any pass to a break they can get.
You can use any Support weapon you want and defeat 9's, IF you use the Eruptor as your primary, the Support weapon at that point is unneccesary. The Eruptor is so powerful that it allows you the flexibility to bring any or no support weapons.
The biggest problem isn't the damage or the ammo, it's that it suffers from Marksman Rifle level reticle sway, which has the slowest reticle drag out of all of the weapons in the game. You do a quick 180 degree turn on your mouse, you are now facing an enemy perfectly head on behind you. You immediately fire the HMG... but bullets are spraying off to a 45 degree angle somehow, WAY OFF from the enemy, because the reticle is still trying to catch up. I even turned on ASUS monitor green dot which is perfectly aligned with ADS scope to make sure. The reticle drag makes so many weapons unusable and the HMG is no different. I need my shots to go where I aim, and unfortunately the ADS reflex sight is off centered as well. The gun really is cursed.
That's literally the point? Heavy gun slow movement. Just dont aim in when turning and fire in bursts. The reload is much more of a nuisance than the weapon handling
Edit: also just drop the fire rate on the machine guns if you want easier to handle sprays
This is a feature of the game, and a metric in contrasting heavy vs lightweight weapons. I’ve wished they had done something like this long ago in FPS games. It’s not realistic to expect a soldier to spin around 5 times in less than a second with full gear, which is what mouse and gyro players are certainly able to do.
Besides, that is definitely not the reason some weapons are so risky to use. The HMG’s problem is that it has too few rounds per clip, takes too long to reload, requires you stay still to reload, and the max ammo you can carry for it without a supply pack is much too small.

It's weird to get 150 rounds with the heavy machine gun and 150 rounds with the regular machine gun?
Weird is the pistol grenade launcher comes with your load out with +1, so you can fire twice before reload.
Having a great time using shield pack stalwart 500kg railcannon against bugs.
Deals with anything and everything in short fashion. When stratagems are not up you are kinda stuck though, can't kill the bile titans with an eruptor.
And it's only the versatility and power of the eruptor that even makes me wanna try a build like this, that let's me play more how I WANNA rather than how I need to because all the old primaries are so weak compared to the eruptor.
it's still overall more effective to just run the scorcher (cos it can kill everything minus massive) 3 stratagems for damaging heavies / AOE and a support weapon for heavies too because higher difficulties just hurl heavies at you.
A neat trick with the scorcher is the tiny explosion radius can hit you, and it won't kill you instantly, so you can do it self inflict damage to use a stim for infinite stamina.
I use the eradicator light armour set with explosive resist so this trick is much more usable.
the grenade pistol can shoot twice before reloading after diving into a mission it's a bug but at least it works every time its shoots like it's supposed to unlike anything with damage over time.
Why do I never see people play against bots
I dunno but bots are easier than bugs for me

Cause people don't find the bots as fun as the bugs apparently
Bots are harder for most and it’s harder to test different load outs and stratagems with them.

That first charger was roamin around in the middle of a battlefield where there were four above average players trying to stay alive lol... I think it's likely the first one that you were able to blow off the armor from was already damaged before you started shooting.
MGs even the HMG are not meant to be taking on heavy armor. They are meant to take out some medium armor and waves of light or unarmored. Which they excel at doing that. The MG is fine where is at as is the LMG, the HMG is the one that needs some TLC, it needs its reload lowered by a second, mag size upped by 25-50 and recoil dropped a bit. You should be able to fire a HMG in 10-15 round burst before veering off target do to kick. Since it already has a shroud on the belt I love to see the HMG be given a backpack that just feeds ammo with no reloading that has like 300-450 rounds in it. But you can only reload the backpack after grabbing a supply pack then spending 10 seconds to repack the backpack. Maybe add in a heat mechanic for the HMG barrel just to so people don't fire off the whole backpack. Doesn't need a barrel swap just disables the gun for 5 seconds if you fire 100 rounds continuous full auto. If you fire pause for 1-2 seconds between 10-20 round burst you should never get heat locked.
Use recoil reducing while prone/crouching armor, crouch a lot, turn rate of fire to 900. EATs are a great pairing with it.

Agree that a 3rd mag would be great, and a slight damage boost like a few weapons got in the most recent patch
Moving reload would be nice but I doubt theyd do this.
The leg thing is charger leg armor sometimes glitches when they miss a charge. At that point anything can knock it off or damage it.
Only played it a few lvls till ther stalwart - never knew that this thing got mid armor.. maybe i´ll give it a try next dive
They can always add an identical machine gun to unlock at higher levels but it has armor piercing rounds / explosive
When you can get full ammo in a resupply it will help alot as well.

Of course you can use the MG on helldive its designated Targets appear also on higher levels and even in greater number ...turning the weapon actually more effective
Im level 60, Ive been consistently using MG-43 since the beginning. Can recommend.
It needs to be heavy armor peircing, thats the ONLY saving grace it could have, otherwise the dps of the mg32 is better due to mag size as they're both med pen and the damage is 21 points difference, This is unfortunate, I really hope they buff it soon seeing as they nerfed the fire rate by 50 RPM, Imagine an anti charger mg able to deal considerable damage to tanks and titans.
I personally love running the Machine Gun with the Supply Pack
You can call in a new backpack when you empty yours.
Okay, I have gotta try the rocket pods/scorcher/autocannon sentry combo.
It works good together because you have a third weapon to use that helps out with the scorcher going through ammo so fast
Id say there are much better loadouts, but if its fun and you're not being useless, go for it

I shit you not my friend and I Hard carried an extraction on helldive the other day by dual wielding spears.
Mission timed out no stratagems. We killed 9 bile titans by him having a spear and me. we trade team reloads after firing.
The other 2 took out the trash mobs and distracted the chargers long enough to get the bile titans off us.
Edit: forgot to include I had a supply backpack that’s we traded off to keep our missile stocks up.
When the spear works it can clear out multiple Bile Titans and Chargers easily but when it doesn't...

It closes bug holes and blows up bot factories. It's an amazing sidearm if you're running a sniper or stealth build.
The grenade pistol shoots twice when you first spawn in if you have the ammo booster and start with 8/8
21:58 it does do damage but I'm pretty sure that chargee died from bleeding out

It seems like when the grenade pistol is at 8/8 it fires twice with its "first" round.
It's a shame, isn't it, because the machine gun feels and look amazing - it just doesn't pack the punch it should.

You really shouldn't use the MG on scavengers and hunters. Yeah it could use an extra mag but it isn't really meant for that. You should use it against mediums like hive guards, warriors, brood commanders, stalkers and spewers.
What's better the scorcher or the r36 eruptor?
Scorcher for Bugs and Eruptor for Bots.

Why MG against Terminids? Against Automatons it's much more efficient. Ammo is less of an issue because bots are fewer in numbers but more armored. Against Terminids I would prefer the Stalwart set to 1150 rmp, rips most targets.
The Stalwart is still the best machine gun 3 charges and you can reload while running.
It’s hard to say because on the missions with the more armoured bile spewers the Stalwart falls behind and you easily get overrun unless you have a lot of extra grenades but other then that the Stalwart might be the best
stalwart reoil is higher you often miss a lot when shooting distant enemies.

Stalwart with scorcher is a better combo in my view. The scorcher can damage heavier enemies and stalwart has more ammo. Can clear mobs and no vulnerability re loading. Solutions for both scenarios.
Against bugs absolutely, Stalwart kicks ass. Id argue MGs only use is against bots when coupled with Erupter.

If the rest of your team brings loadouts that covers most of the problems then Yes you can. This is also true for the ballistic shield. Try running solo and see how the machine gun does. You'll get smashed. I find the Sickle and Autocannon a much better combination.
anyone who thinks the machine gun is bad is just bad at the game they are the same ppl who dont realize that you can two shot hulks with an anti tank rifle

EVERY weapon in this game serves utility... folks that complain about nerfs and use metas o so because they can't use a certain weapon they way THEY want to (ahem Railgun crybabies, meta host kickers). This entire game is built in such a way that even the beginning equipment is still viable in endgame. GIT GUD NOOB. It' very telling of a persons skill and mentality when they throw fits because something doesn't vibe with the way they want. You all want to play at war with make believe, then cry when things don't go your way easily... the irony. The irony being that war is hell, and things rarely, if ever, go your way.
