How and why would you penalize someone for accidently wrecking someone when they are racing for the same real estate on a track?? Now if someone purposely and with malice wrecks someone for example the Hamlin situation that is where a penalty is warranted. It is just really stupid. Suarez hits two cars after the race, in the pits, with pedestrians around, no loss of points. Hamlin gets up into Chastain, and it probably wasn't totally intentional, he got up there, started to loose it ( not intentional ) , and when he felt it going, he just lets go of the wheel. There is a huge difference, and it isn't rocket science. The other part of that is the whole after the fact thing about it. I can pretty much guarantee that directly after the race, NASCAR had zero thoughts about a penalty of any kind for Hamlin, and wrote it off as a "racin deal", as i did when i saw it live, and i am sure everyone else saw it that way too. Then days after the fact, here comes NASCAR swinging the hammer after Hamlin's podcast.
Where does it stop now, 2 days after, a week, 3 months, where does the time stop for this stuff?
For example, if a driver this year admits on a podcast or to the media about about doing some "self policing" as KB put it in this years Daytona 500, is NASCAR gonna come a knockin' with the hammer for a race that was done months ago? How about last years 500? Where is that line? Or, was it because he is Denny Hamlin? Or Kyle Bush, or Kevin Harvick? All the vets that have been outspoken and critical of NASCAR? Why didn't Logano get slapped for taking out KB?
This is the thing right here that peeves me off to no end. In my view, this was political in nature and it flat out stinks. Then there's the Hendrick deal. They appeal and get the points back, then amazingly, 24 and 48 get "randomly" sent to R&D, and what do you know? Penalties!( random my ass) Then NASCAR comes back in a week and changes the rules, moving the goal posts around in their favor and makes the appeals process moot, redundant, and really useless. I have read that rule in the rule book,, and there is a high and low penalty for fines/suspensions, and point penalties. So now the appeals court must either totally reverse NASCAR's ruling, or they can only take the lowest penalty of their choosing. Very convenient for NASCAR isn't it? Judge Dredd anyone " I am the law" Are they not running the appeals process like a court? That's how it is supposed to be, right? Not now. NASCAR want's to be judge and jury, and contradicting their own rules, the list goes on and on, and they have shown that they will move the goalposts, rewrite the rules on a whim, TO THEIR BENEFIT only. BS
And one last thing, actions detrimental to racing. Such a BS rule, it's a catch all rule, purely subjective, and vague as all hell. Having spent a minute wearing a badge, it's the same as charging somebody with a felony, like assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, and charging that guy with burglary( to enter a premises to commit any other felony is one element of burglary here in Nevada, and there are 22 elements of that law here), it's a catch all to make his bail tougher, and give the DA that shot to plea bargain I.E. We will drop the burglary charge if you plead guilty to simple assault/gross misdemeanor, 1 year in the county jail. If you take it to trial, your going down for all of it, enjoy your years in state prison. In other wards, you take what we give you, and shut the hell up. This is how it is done to clear the dockets/courts, and why you see so many clowns still running the streets and doing crimes with a rap sheet as long as your arm, when they should have been locked up and the key thrown away decades ago.
This is what stinks about NASCAR imo. No need for all of this in racing. No transparency, no consistency, purely subjective, reeks of favoritism, all to NASCAR's benefit while the drivers, teams and fan's all get screwed.
Ok, i will get off my soapbox now, venting is complete, for now.
