I just removed my lower middle bearing looks new? My vanos line leaks so I'm doing it. 243,000Km on car never changed bearings. Oil change every 4,000 Km 10W60 Total.

How did it go
This is why Germany lost WW2. Their aircraft engines were not serviceable in the field; had to be sent home for rebuilding.
They were not serviceable because they were jets lol. Bmw invented the first fighter jet engines.

Thank you! Will do! On factory bearings we recommend changing them every 50k, on the ACL Bearings you can go a little longer though. We are located in Lincoln, NE

Question the number 9 was all the way to copper is that bad ? Or as long as the crankshaft is in good shape that will be ok ?
I am a little bit scared because mine had one exactly like that never spun or anything like that please give me an advice my mechanic he said he inspected the the pumps and they were ok he never said anything to replace the pump

Do not do that! That is a rip off and not right. We have people send us their cars from multiple states away for that very reason. We hoped this would encourage people to get theirs hands on their cars but if not, send the M car over and we will treat your right!

What about the top side bearing (rod side) ? Is it only necessary to do the cap side shell only?

On my m3 e92 rod bearings and oil cooler was about $4780 with labor and parts and appears that’s actually a good, bad price don’t want to imagine on v10 m5 maintenance

So when you leave the vanos pump in place you dont have to measure the backlash? I am planning to do the rod bearings next oil change
You have to measure backlash if you loosen the chain/either pump
Would you recommend 10w60 as per BMW or 5w50? heard from some that it might superior. I may purchase a high mileage one and plan to basically revamp everything, would just take a whole lot of time and money.
Personally, we prefer to stay with 10w60

Hey brother, hope you are doing well.
I wanna ask something, my friend has m5 e60, and around 70,000 miles. He has the stock rod bearings still and never checked in mechanic if they are worn or not. He doesn’t drive it daily, yet uses 10-60 oil, the thing is that he can’t change the bearings cuz it’s hard to do it in the place he lives and delivery would take ages, he is wondering if changing to 5-50 red line, or if not red line is other brand 5-50 ok? would that solve the issue? Keep in mind they checked the oil and no metal shavings came out, it was clean. So can he just use 5-50 oil? He drives it once a month cuz he has other car which is daily driver, would wanna know your response
See if he would be interested in getting it transported to us! But we recommend staying with 10w60. 5w50 would help with the rod bearing wear on cold start but offers less protection when at operating temp and the vanos system is designed for 10w60. Allowing more time for the motor to warm up before going above 3k rpm and heavy load should help the bearing last longer. What year is his m5 and has he had the oil tested at blackstone?

We are in a country which is near Russia so they would ask a lot of 💵 to import that thing there🤣.

We recommend rebuilding the vanos pump and replacing the high pressure vanos line while you're in there. Whenever you have the chance, call or text 402-314-7670 and we can get you a quote!

Whoa! The V pump… how many miles on your S85?
This was a customer car but the motor had 120k, the bearings in it before the previous rebuild were very worn , which most likely contributed to the pump failure. We recommend having Dr. Vanos rebuild the V pump when doing rod bearings!

How much does it cost to do rod bearings e60
$3500 is a solid base price and includes vanos pump rebuild, arp bolts, ACL race series bearings, and all the gaskets, fluids and labor
I think the rod bearing issue is such a big issue because so many m5/m6’s were heavily abused in their early years. Driven hard from cold, burnouts, repetitive launches etc
The most important thing is allow the engine to warm up gradually. The second most is to make sure the oil gets changed when scheduled..
I never rev my E60 M5 or drive it hard until it’s completely warm. I only use the car for occasional long journeys (have a little city car for day to day use) and basically give it the respect it deserves.

You have to let it warm up before giving it excess load. That is to be expected
@@mista5796 Yes, I know, but it is one thing to do proper maintenance in a strict manner and quite another to have a design error, the issue of the bearings is a design problem, both in this M5 and in the M3 E46, like the one that I have. The fact that a manufacturer specifies as a sine quanon condition that 10w60 oil be used already practically makes it explicit.
@tolerances on this F1 engine based design are so narrow the oil almost doesn’t get in on cold start, major design flaw

I have e60 with 22k miles on and would like to put ess supercharge,, should I change the rod bearings?

I’m looking into purchasing a 2008 M5 with 103k miles on it what should i be looking for before buying?
Does it have any service records? Check to see if rod bearings, vanos line and pump have been done. Also good idea to see if the clutch has been done. If you have access to a scan tool, bring it and check for codes. This may be a stretch but if possible, see if you can remove the oil filter and check for metal flakes
Anything special you have to do with the steering fluid once you put it back together?
Just bleed it like a normal power steering system. Just make sure you use the CHF 11S
My e63 m6 has got 159,000 Miles, Grey 2006 Model. OEM rod bearings, had the car since 2007.. not a single issue.
But instead of 10w60 I’ve been using 5w50, I drive it daily.
People don’t understand this car, majority treat it as if it’s a Toyota “yeah bro let me hit it hard whilst it’s cold nothing will happen”
This rod bearing thing is too exaggerated, love this car.

Sounds like you have quite the beast!! Have you been running the 5w50 since you got it?? That very helpful to know that 5w50 has kept yours going so long!! But yes, the rod bearing issue is blown WAY out of proportion. I think some of it is from TH-cam videos from 4-7 years ago, a few big people said it and now everyone says it. Probably one of our top comments "WhAt AbOuT ThE RoD BeARINgS!?l lol. I've learned to accept it, helps to keep the price down for us enthusiasts to get more of them 😉

Yes I’ve been running it with 5w50 since the day I got it, the only “Popular” failing point was the throttle actuators, it sent car into limp mode but it was nothing lol, since I had warranty that time (it happened in 2011) they got changed for free lmao.
I had a Mercedes e55 amg before this car (2005 model), and it was the worst car I have ever owned.. I don’t know if it was not taken care of properly or something, but it was low in miles.

@@outlaweuro I had this one funny incident occur with me 2 years back, I was taking my cousin for a ride in my car (he loves s85 sounds), the moment I cold started it.. I decided to give it little rev for the guy to hear (till 3 rpm).. he was like “BYE BYE ENGINE”
So weird bruh, people treat this car so odd 🤣
@@nurlan-bj2sc those cold start revs and launches are risky!! We've seen some people start them up and go hard right away and other that won't touch the throttle for at least 15min after start up 🤷🏽♂️
I still own the 2007 M6 e64 I bought new.
The bearing issue is over blown. A set of Michelle Pilot Sports costs twice as much a full bearing kit (including vanos line, bolts, bearings, gaskets, etc.) and the tires last 22k miles at best with no burnouts or hard handling.
When doing rod bearings looking in front the engine it's top then the second one is bottom and it go's like that all the way back??
What do you mean? Too then bottom!?
I mean when you are under the engine witch one is the top bearing and witch one is the bottom when you looking up at it
@@catalinosolorzano7054 The big end of the rod that goes around the crank is the bottom, the side the connects to the piston is the top
