TJ, I work for a manufacturer of HVAC and one thing I see is that you need to isolate the outside air intake v/s the exhaust from the condenser. You don’t have this isolated and your just recirculating the hot air from the exhaust of the condenser. I’ve got some ideas for you if you’re interested.

One of the best tent AC setups I’ve seen. Put a foam board tunnel between the box and tent window and you’re all set.

I got a chinese diesel heater for my RTT and it works great. I'm glad I found your channel, as I had this same idea for a trailer for my truck and to pull behind the small Class C we have for camping. I like that A/C idea and already have that plano box.

Clever use of trailer and space. When not in use you can still make a lumber run at Home Depot. Rod tubes on side, too. I'm reviving an old flat trailer of mine. You are giving me ideas. ;)

That’s awesome. You talked about possibly getting a unit with a heater. I’ve used one of those heated blankets in my tent run off my generator. It worked amazing. Warmed up the entire tent. And it was quit inside the tent.
The trailer is coming along great.

I love all the reasons to DIY this! Stealth, EASY build, it acts like a window unit as it should, next to the window (duhhh), extra storage, control knobs accessible (I don't have to pay extra for a remote that I'll lose or us of my phone). Five stars for following the KISS principle.

Idea for a heater. We were on a rabbit hunt in OH, in January. Two in a six man tent with electrical hookup. Space heater bungeed to an 8" cinder block. Block kept it stable and off the floor. Kept it warm in there, too.

You can always use some Cora plastic to fill in the side of the tent to the Plano Box. It's lightweight and can put it inside your box when not in use.

Heads up the GFI plug in will give you problems if you get caught in rain. Takes about 3 hours to dry out and work again. It’s easy to replace with a regular plug

Also you can add a “hard start capacitor” to make the load easier on your generator. Makes a huge difference when the compressor cycles and the generator is on eco throttle

I am planing on getting a rooftop tent, I have a solar powered recumbent trike that I like riding to explore new areas...I am up in NJ and camping in july and august it is incredibly humid so the idea of air conditioning sounds like a plan. I have given some thought about an inner tent out of harbour ffreight moving blankets for insulation in the winter...might help with the ac in the summer too lol... oh amazon sells diesel heaters from china for around $120 people have mod'd them into a box for rooftop tents.

That's a great build, I'm buying a pickup soon and will be getting a rooftop tent for it, I'm not sure if that setup will work for it but it does give me some great ideas. I'm thinking of going with a F150 Powerboost (the hybrid truck with the built in generator), if I could get bed rails that would accommodate a rooftop tent and an A/C setup like yours and it'd be perfect! Any ideas? I'd like to keep the tent somewhat below the cab if possible to maximize fuel economy.

I have a RTT, with a 9000 btu standing ac and my RTT has an attached gazebo. I put my AC in there and did not help whatsoever. The reason for that is cold air is sinks, hot air is lighter, it wasn't able to rise the 6 feet into the tent but the little gazebo room was ice cold. I had to put multiple windmovers pushing the air up and it helped a little.

Thanks, no issues at all, it actually pulls the humidity out of the tent the same way it would a house. I have a drain hole for the ac water to flow out under the box , but I will be adding a tube for directing it away from the trailer. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
