Watching in March 2021. It hurts to realize he died less than a year later, and that this interview was held the day after he turned 69 💔💔💔 he will always be missed. In light of the craziness going on in the world today, I am thankful he isn't here to witness the chaos. He truly is in a much better place 🙏 RIP Alan Rickman ❤

Coming from a Severus Snape fan, can we please at least reduce the amount we all ask poor Alan Rickman about Snape...?

    Two things:
1] When Alan was talking about his Snape costume, he was absolutely right about how the minutest of details can tell the biggest aspects of a film. That's something called "visual storytelling".
2] It boggles my mind, how we can create tiny drones like the ones he describes here, but we haven't yet found either a full-on cure, or at least a better-resulting treatment for pancreatic cancer. (1/11/2021)

When he took on Severus Snape he became an icon. This will always be THE role for which he will forever be famous. As Snape he is a cultural phenomenon. Like it or not, I suppose.

Yes, maybe. Probably? But I've never read or seen Harry Potter, so for me he is many other characters, most especially Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, as that is where I first "met" him.

Why do you have to spend the interview dwelling on Snape? I wanted to get to know the project he is promoting right now?! I think it's rather rude to reduce Rickman to his participation in the HP franchise. I think it's gauche & impudent to ask if he feels reduced to his role as Snape and at the same time use it as a gateway to the topic since obviously the interviewer has nothing else to ask. It's a bloody shame!!!

you can never get through any comment section on Alan without that cluster of fans ripping into the interviewer for asking about Snape. I happen to think Snape was his greatest role and I know everything he did and loved everything he did. But Snape made me feel things I hadn't felt before. There is nothing wrong with talking about Snape. 8 movies, an iconic role from one of the most popular book franchises in history. Get over it. He will always be LOVED as Snape and remembered for making that role SPECTACULAR. He owned those movies and he was barely on screen. He absolutely pulsated as Snape. I can't say enough about how he brought Snape to life. so please, can we not.

For me, the talking/asking about Snape isn’t the issue... I personally find it immensely rude that Alan was here to talk about and promote, “A Little Chaos”, and in an 8 minute interview, the interviewer kept trying to find ways to redirect the conversation to that of Snape.
I adore Snape; I became a fan of Alan’s because of Snape.
But at the same time, Alan was the real person behind the character and deserved the courtesy of being able to speak about his new work, something that I feel was belittled because of this interviewer’s persistence to talk about Snape.
Watch the 2015 92Y interview, for example. The way the audience’ questions naturally flow to talk about Snape seem much less irritating to Alan and he was more prone at that time to talk freely about the HP experience because he had finished saying all he wanted to about “A Little Chaos”.

Yes he certainly stole the show in all those movies.... very sad he wasn't in them more. More snape scenes are what we all wanted :(

Amen! I agree completely. If it wasn't for his magnificent portrayal of Snape, I never would have fallen in love with Alan and wanted to see and watch every movie, interview, anything of his. I had seen Die Hard, and Robin Hood, but I couldn't place him. In less than a year, I have watched, rented purchased over 90% of Alan's works. That would not have happened without his being Snape. I will ALWAYS love and adore Alan, and I love all his roles he played, but Alan made Snape come alive! He became real to us. No one can take that away from him...no one!

@@barbarazirger7732 of course it’s natural and perfectly fine to have a preference for a particular character an actor plays but when you start forming an unhealthy obsession with that actor to the point that you think it’s perfectly ok to make all sorts of vile comments and allegations about his widow - then that’s not OK. In a way, even though Alan did an amazing job playing Severus Snape - I kind of wish he hadn’t as some ‘fans’ have become a little too obsessed with that character and by association Alan as well. Unfortunately these fans don’t have a lot of decorum and are often making really lewd sexually suggestive comments about Snape and poor Alan also (not to mention the explosion of some truly disgusting AI images). A lot of these comments seem to come from quite young fans but also older women who should know better quite frankly. Yes Snape was a great character and I’m sure Alan enjoyed playing him, but it’s insulting to solely identify him with that character alone. As Alan himself has said Snape was a 2 dimensional character- whereas Alex from ‘Snowcake’ was a more 3 dimensional character for him to play. There’s A LOT more to such an intelligent, multi-faceted actor that Alan was then Snape (or Hans Gruber or the Sheriff of Nottingham) for that matter!

I HATE when Alan’s female fans disparage Rima, particularly over her not wanting to have children. That is none of their business. Alan was a grown man with choices. If he chose to stay with Rima despite the fact that she did not want children, then that was his choice and his fans should respect that.
Alan means a lot to me, but that does not mean I have to hate Rima.
And yes, I loved Alan’s portrayal of Snape, but it is not my favorite performance by him.

@@101dejavu I heard that too, about finding out about the cancer after he had a stroke, but since then, I heard Kate Winslet say, he knew about the cancer during al little chaos, and I imagine his last film too, Eye In the Sky. She said he was doing chemo for a while and that's what gave him the stroke. In other words, according to her, the cancer came first. He probably found out in August that it wasn't getting better and he was terminal.😢😭💔

Of course he knew. But that wasn’t what he wanted to be remembered by. He wanted his work to be how he was judged. And an outstanding body of work it was. I can’t believe that at your all this time and someone who I did not know except through his work I carry such a great affection for. I know he is in a better place and how lucky that the saints and apostles and the dear Lord can listen to him and learn from him every night.
