I'd forgot how awesome the malham area is: haven't been there for years but I have never seen so much water come down Gordale Scar. Great video, brought a tear of nostalgia to my old eyes.
Thanks for the lovely comment, Ronald. The nostalgia is strong for me round that way too ... I remember excitedly scrambling up Gordale as a kid like it was yesterday! 🙂
Yeah, the MTB wasn't really needed. I haven't got the gravel bike on the road at the moment, hence the chunkier option. Couple of bits are pretty muddy so v cold/dry conditions would be best! 🙂
Great video, visited Malham Cove earlier this year whilst riding the first leg of three day way of the roses. Took detour from Airton to Malham. Only rode part way up cove road and walked with bike to the base of the cove. Given I was covering 65 miles, 6500 ft climb I didn’t want to venture to far off course. Definitely somewhere I’d like to revisit to explore more.
Thanks, Paul. Great little detour off the WOTR route there and much kudos for having the energy to even consider it with that planned leg! Yes, that area is definitely worth a revisit and I think you'd struggle to find a bad ride around there. I think I just about made it to Cracoe on day 1 when I did WOTR a few years back - that climb out of Settle fully loaded was pretty memorable (and I never really recovered the rest of my first day!). 🙂
Cheers, Sean. It's an area that can sometimes be dismissed by true Dales aficionados due to the huge numbers of coach trips and day trippers ... but the scenery is spectacular and off season it's nice and peaceful.
great video yet again martin,.. comin' to UK next year, this has got to be on my list.. and a great tune in there also..btw.. who is the female singer.. thank you
A stunning video. Do you have a gpx file of route please Martin. I did mastitis lane from Grassington on gravel bike.....oh boy! I think I'm ok climber but it's loooooong and big rocks at end....didn't make it😢 You just missed my fav road climb, up the back of the Falcon pub in Arncliffe it's a beauty. I'm thinking of getting a Voodoo mountain bike. Do you recommend it?
Thanks, Mark. Yes that Mastiles lane is a beast and it had me pushing up the 18% rocky bit at the top (happily!). I've just set the route to public on my Komoot so you should be able to grab the gpx from there - www.komoot.com/tour/1968951932?share_token=axvzMw3o3Rpvugi9WDttgDvSqyP2pUVAcoxNRhfwZnEg9KC0BS&ref=wtd Considering the price point and the sort of terrain I need it to deal with, I've been pretty happy with the Voodoo MTB. I added a dropper post and narrower bars, so I think I get a slightly more refined ride than stock, but it's definitely worth having a look at one I'd say.
Ok, you’ve sold it to me, I’m gonna have to improve my fitness and head over to The Dales 😊😊
If you pick a day with some half decent weather it's hard to beat, he says with all the bias! 🙂Thanks for the comment, Paul. Happy cycling!
Nice view 👍
Stunning scenery 👌 cheerful as always.
Thanks, Matt. Definitely got the views on that one! 🙂

So glad you did this route as I really want to do it, suitable for a gravel bike mate?

Cheers, Paul. Yes, worth a visit I'd say. The singer is Jessie Villa. Happy cycling! 🙂

P.S. The gpx doesn't have the detours but they're easy to work out and follow! 🙂
