I did a small swale recently by adjusting one side of my box blade a few inches lower on one side and went both directions to drag a “V” out. It seems to work pretty well.
Great job! I know its hard seeing where the bucket and loader is from the driver seat! Sense you got you a little ditch started maybe you could put one side of the tires into the ditch and drive down it with the box blade down to slope the sides a little more?
Heyhey Hank I see you and Tim Marks had the same idea of having how to dig a swale videos at the same time. "TRACTOR TIME WITH TIM ON HAMILTONVILLE FARM" LOL
Here's a little poem I thought of while I was viewing this episode Hank and Gena. Your on Hamilton Farm right now, Hanks on Brutus and not a plow. You'll never get rich by digging that ditch, but you made Gena happy and proud. Howboutcha? I enjoyed this episode and can't wait for the next. How's Olive Oyl doing Hank? Hope you get back at her. Please, y'all stay healthy and safe and cheers from this old retired coot living in Tennessee. I do write poetry and had 2 of them in the class of 1969's paper published for our 50th reunion so I am a published author.💖👍😷🍻👀✌
I love my Branson 4815h...i call it my favorite son in law. Strong...always willing to work day or night and never says no. I cut 900’ of drainage swale on my homestead. I have power link and tilt installed on my 3 point. I used a 6’ driveway blade and tilted it 40 degrees and took 4” cuts at a time. Each pass the tire rode the cut and made a nice 12” 40 degree slope. You can probably do the same thing with a box blade
Hi Hank. Yall always have great ideas of new tasks that can be done using a tractor. You seem to be able to self instruct yourself very well. I hope to narrow my tractor decision soon. I have a fear of purchasing the wrong brand or wrong size tractor. I have looked at the Branson tractor. It appears to be a solid made machine. I look forward to your reviews on your Branson tractor.
Thanks. We have several videos they may help you make a decision on Branson. I love mine. At your leisure watch our Branson playlist, I think you'll like those videos.
Listening to you and Gina work together reminds me of dad and I working together. At times I get laughing so hard with some of hand signals he is trying to give, just like you pointed out don't know if I'm supposed to steal second or order a pizza?
Probably one of the hardest things too do with a tractor is cutting out sod evenly with a bucket . You did really good for first try . A really good trick for making a swale is taking the skis off the pto tiller . Mark your lines of farthest edge of swale on the ground each side with spray paint . Then back in with tiller start grinding slowly bring down too center deep then back up slowly too second line . Do the whole swale then use the bucket too remove the nice mixed loose dirt with ease . With soil conditions like yours no rocks it’s really easy . You will get a nice curved swale too 👍
I THINK ANYTHING YOU DO IS EXCEPTIONAL WORK... THANX FOR YOUR CONTENT. HONESTLY, I LEARN ALOT... NO DOUBT... STAY COOL AN KEEP PUSHIN ON HANK... PEACE...
I use the box-blade to make a swale. Works very well. I followed some other videos on using a box-blade. I'm using a '52 Ford 8n so it doesn't have any downforce on the 3-point and with the Homestead box-blade it worked great even in heavy sod. 👍
The proof will be when it rains if it does what you wanted, then it is a great job. if it doesn't see where you need to redo, remember practice makes perfect,
I now see what you guys was talking about Hank lol. Yeah that would be a good idea to route that water to another place. I feel so sorry that you lost your pumpkin patch. It looked like you a good start.
Watch this before you dig with a backhoe: th-cam.com/video/nXSI8atoLzM/w-d-xo.html

Right on👍👍
Box blade set at a slight angle cuts a decent swale.
That s the proper way to make a swale, don t waste your time saving sod, seed and the grass will be back in a month.
@@donmacdonald7758 I fail at seed a lot! This Alabama red clay In my yard is difficult: I need sod for the top soil that comes with it!
That's exactly what I spent the day doing
Watching now
Thanks

Yeah that's a good idea
Hmmm...I have Kubota BX23S, I wander if I can use it to do what you just said. Thanks.
Where is the guy making $50.00 an hour to hold the tall stick?
Gina is pretty good at telling you what to do. 😀
Keep on tractoring!
This is true👍
If you have a tiller available works alot better to just till along the swale
i have the same project but way to wet now.
ANGLE BOX BLADE SCARFIRE
I've tilled up where I've built swales then angled my box blade worked great!
Good idea👍
How ya all doing bud been off here for a bit but back now so need catch up on stuff but good vid bud godbless
Thanks Brian
Looks good. Should be functional.
It's already working for us. So thats good. Thanks for stopping by Scott.
I vote for the guy that I said use the Homestead Tiller . Lot of work replacing sod
Right on!
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching
A turning plow will create a ditch. Then, use a box blade or grade blade to shape the swell.
Thanks Eric. Good idea👍
Hank what the heck is a s-whale? Thought they needed to be in an ocean or other large body of water!
Lol
Im going to do this on my land. Thanks for the vid
😁👍
Use your scrape blade it works lot better you will need to tilt it. (Ron )
Thanks
If you take off that fancy cab you could probably see a lot better.
😀😂

Purely coincidence. But I must say, he's more proficient than I am😂👍
Looks good, let it rain, rain, rain!!👍🍒
Thanks Larry!
What are you doing with your Mahindra?
I sold it a while back.

Yep, I used a box blade too.
I'm going to try that soon.

Looks good Hank. Y'all have some nice dirt to work with unlike our soil here. My English are terrible too. Lol.
😂
great video buddy 😎👊🏻👍🏻
Thanks brother. I appreciate you watching and when you leave a comment
Hamiltonville Farm you are welcome buddy 😀
Man that looks so tedious. Good patience and teamwork. See, I told you Gina would be useful at some point 😂😂😂
😂😂

Yeah, you win some, you lose some. Thanks Alan👍
I think you did a nice job. Good that Gina could help especially on the first section. It's so hard to work that fel when you can't see the end of it.
This is true
I was just wondering if you could drop two wheels in the section that was excavated then backdrag at an angle to get rid of those straight sides?
Yeah probably. Good idea.
The back blade works amazing if you get that sucker tilted up and make a v-ditch
Thanks 👍 that's a good idea
Great work thanks for the content and stay safe
Right on. Be safe out there.
Hamiltonville Farm thank you and you too friend
What is your favorite compact tractor 🚜? , mine is Massey ferguson.
Branson hands down
What is a swale.?
Water diversion
Looks really good! Nice precision with the loader, smoothed out the dirt really well. 👍 🚜 Hopefully it will do the job.
It has worked out great so far👍 thanks for watching 👍
Hey just some info .. you have 2 inappropriate comments down below both are links to adult sites
Yeah I'm getting to them. Thanks so much👍
@@HamiltonvilleFarm ok great just trying to keep things clean for the public... Other than that great video Hank !!
