Cutting A Swale Between Two Houses

- I had to cut a swale between two neighbors houses. This subdivision has very poor drainage and no storm water drains out at the roads. Since they built the two houses behind them their backyards have held water. There is a total of 12" of fall from the back of the property to the top of the curb on the street so the swale is going to be very gradual. I also have to remove a stump and prep an area for Jeff to come pour a concrete patio. I stripped the grass off and loaded it into the Pete then graded out the site with the loader. I will be seeding the back yard and laying zoysia sod in the front yard once the patio is finished. Should be next week when I get back to finish the job up. Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #watercorrection
Nice work bud!
Thanks man appreciate it
Looking good 👍
Thank you! 👍🏻
GOAT you are the best!
Thank you!
Very nice work and great video!
Thank you!
Just drain it into the pool!
I think it drains the pool
Parked the truck next to a sign that says "dip"... there's probably a joke somewhere in there.
Lol oh there is definitely a joke there 😁
Too bad that DIP couldn’t be where the sign was... you could have used some more fall.
Zoysia and Bermuda grass... you love it or hate it. Once they set roots, they are tough to dig out... especially when skimming shallow like that.
If he seeds Bermuda it’ll be interesting to see how he grows it under that tree. I’ve never been so lucky... maybe there is a cultivar adapted to shade?
Looks like they have a nice smooth starting place now.
Yeah that would have been great would definitely have more fall. Those roots weren’t messing around. We did zoysia in the front, bermuda between the houses and fescue in the back yard under the tree, it’s Franken lawn 🤣. It drains but it’s slow with the sod on it. Thanks again for watching
I don't know if anybody told you but you did a Swale job. I know. You don't have to thank me. My contribution to TH-cam. I'm a giver. What can I say?
Lol I appreciate that! 👍🏻
I ground stumps for a guy putting in a swale a few years back. The swale solved the problem for him and 2 of his neighbors.
Good deal hopefully this one does too
Looks great ! Not alot of fall but luckily water always searches for level. Lol. Clearly watched this and next back asswards but trying to get caught up. Lol.
Thank you! Lol I just appreciate you watching!
On a job like this how do you manage sprinkler heads that are in the area you’re excavating ?
I try to mark them if I can if not when I hit them then I fix them and mark them. You may have to lower them as well
Thats tough when you don't have much drop to work with. Takes a lot more precision to make it work. I'm guessing thats why you make the big bucks and Mrs. E married you? Lol. Another job well done my friend. Stay safe.
Yes it’s a huge pain, I got it drain but now that the sod is on it it drains really slow. Lol I make big bucks? I don’t think I even get a paycheck 🤔 may need to talk to my banker 😁. Appreciate you watching as always
@@eliteearthworksllc as my Dad used to say, I'd rather have your money than a license to steal. Lol
Cutting a Swale = Elite!
Thanks!
@@eliteearthworksllcWhat area of the US do you do most of your projects?
@@aaronburford5701 I’m in southwest Missouri
@@eliteearthworksllc Great! Thanks for sharing... great properties out there I see... I am on the Eastern most part of VA, Va Beach!
That swell looks swell!
Thanks man!
Brandon you supposed to spin around in circle so you can wear tracks out and buy another set. Big difference when you see owner operator than company operator. Because we have to pay for repairs. Couple weeks ago was on Bobcat 870 and guy said all you have to do is spin around and come back out. Said if I catch anyone doing that in my equipment they can find someone else to work for.
Lol yeah that will trash those tracks in no time. You are correct you run equipment differently when you are the one paying for it. 😁
Another Swale job!
Thanks man!
I'm just here to leave another really swale comment 😉😎🤣😁😂
BurningDinosaurs 😂😂
🤣🤣 I see what you did there
Good job Brandon
Thank you!
Do you remember a guy about a year ago that said he did not know how to use a grader bucket?
Lol sure do 😁 he’s not a pro at it but is getting more comfortable with it 👍🏻
Hmmmm... "Tight yard, close tolerances"! Glad you're doing it not me. Then it needs new grass to grow. Not sure if it was you or DIRT BOSS who used the phrase, "working in the sandbox", a couple weeks back. This sure qualifies for that. Thanks for another one! Sonny (CT)
Lol yeah it was dirt boss but yes pretty much the same. 😁 Appreciate you watching
Looks good too me!
Thanks buddy
You need one of those 360 degree bucket knuckles for the trackhoe. Would make cutting swales easier.
That would be slick definitely help with those
An other great video, hey man what do you do with the sod you dig out? Reason I'm asking you is I started a little side project with my free time, I put thr word out that I would take all topsoil even if it had stone, wood, trash or sod in it and I bought a small little screener for €500 with two screen's on it and borrowed the mini digger from work on the weekends and I screen everything into ton bags and I'm making bank on it lol, 70-100 euro a a bag and I've made my money back already. I bought a new machine that will cut up the sod into tiny pieces so I can recover more soil but, I'm waiting on it to come.
You should give it a think man because there's a lot of good soil in this video that could've been saved and you could stock pile, sell it or use it on other projects.
That sounds like a good little business. I would love to have a screener, be a big help. Sounds like you got a good deal 👍🏻
@@eliteearthworksllc Thanks man, I'm using a small screener, it's a vibranting one and there're cheap.
I think it would be a good investment for you because you could stock pile the stuff you get from jobs and then when you have any down time you could screen it and stock pile it.
roadrash90 I agree that would be handy
@@eliteearthworksllc Also just wanted to thank you man because you inspired me to do it 👍😁
Cool I appreciate that! It’s neat hearing from everyone 👍🏻
Not going to lie, I had to search what "swale" was.
Yeah I did at one point to makes sure I spelled it right lol
People don't realize what you have to do to get water to run off the yard.
Exactly there can be a lot that goes into it. And it’s so much more difficult now when it’s done vs new construction
Stumps always a pain when you can't push over the whole tree
Yes they are
Looks great from here if ya nadir a hand give me a hoot hahaha see ya Napa mike
Thanks buddy I appreciate that!
Thx for the video.
You bet thanks for watching
Turned out really good should do the trick. Keep up the great videos
Thanks buddy
Great job Brandon. It will work. Glad to see you putting grading bucket flat and rolling up grass like carpet.
Thank it does make a big difference laying the bucket flat. Thanks for watching
This could be interesting, two houses, one tan, one dark. Half the dark house's gutters drain between, also it looks like the dark's backyard might drain between the houses too.
Is there anywhere to bury the downspout pipe into?
Can you put a smallish hole in the curb to the street?
Will anything work?
You’re right it does drain there, there’s a small crack in the curb but the city doesn’t want us to put the down spout there. And there is really no where else to go with it. Something else I found odd is there is no storm drains in the whole place. All the water runs to the curbs and roads and is suppose to find its way to a pond. The whole area has terrible drainage. I did get it to drain to the curb but now that sod is on it, it drains really slow. I’m kinda at a lose with it really. Appreciate you tuning in
Looks like a swale of a good time
Lol it will be if actually works 😁
Looks great u did a wonderful job and it will look great when the grass comes in.
Thank you! The sod definitely makes it look nice just hope it works 😁🤞🏻Thanks for watching
Different type of work this summer. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Social distance and all that stuff.
#snowflake
Thanks for sharing 🤷🏼♂️
Elite Earthworks LLC I was on about that guy who put social distance. Good work tho bud🚜
Saul Porter-Crowther thanks
Yes lots of different projects some I’m excited about, this one not so much lol. Appreciate you watching and same to you
I have those same glasses frames.
Nice I love them
Looking good Brandon.
Thanks Barry
Made my back hurt just thinking about laying sod🤣 I take it you don't have to get those pieces all that perfect like if your rolling out fescue? Nice job‼️
Lol mine too. No not on bermuda they pretty much tear it at the roots so it’s pretty messy. The zoysia is nice little squares with some dirt on them so it’s easy to lay. Appreciate you watching
Do you ever worry about the dust you breathe in daily, specifically the silica?
No I guess I should
Im learning a lot from watching your videos! Could you do a video on the ins and outs of using a transit on a job like this? Id really like to know how to use one.
I could do that. I think I touched on it in an old video but I can’t remember lol. I’ve got a job coming up I could do that on. Appreciate you watching
Lookin good. Gotta love the easy in and out jobs.
Thank you! Yes those are the gravy ones
Nice work again 👍 looking forward to part II
Thanks buddy!
Nice work man keep them coming
Thanks buddy!
