it takes so much confidence and guts to throw ink around so loosely at the beginning like that. Love watching Jim draw, I learn something every time.

Oh no biggie, just reading comments and drawing at the same time because Jim Lee is an actual MetaHuman.

I think Jim has such a deep fundamental knowledge of what he does he is able to relax and allow his unconscious to do most of the hard work. I imagine this leaves him free to chat and think about other things while the drawing, in a sense, completes itself.

Someday I want to see a full comic drawn and inked by Jim Lee using this loose style he uses for these streams! Make no mistake, Scott Williams is one of the best inkers in the industry and his ultra clean inking complements Jim's style perfectly to the point that I can't imagine two other penciller/inker partners that are nearly as good together. But this loose style Jim uses in these sketches retains a lot of the energy of his "line art"(which I will also use here very loosely given he spends very little time in the line art on these) and looks very unique compared to what we usually see in print.
As someone else pointed out, it takes guts to just spill ink in the art board with a tissue like that and then come back and refine it gradually!

Fucking blows my goddamn mind watching artist work. I’m sitting here like “HOW THE FUCK DIES HE MAKE IT LOOK 3D?!” As I’m staring at it trying to measure how far the lines are to guess how it looks the way it does and further blowing my mind by not being able to recreate it

...interesting too how he seems to squint at the start...as though he doesn't want to get bogged down, at all, by any of the opening process. I assume this allows for the most freedom and flow of the drawing.

I also brought 300 copies of X-Men #1. Maybe I should change my name to "Overkill". Jim was like crack for a young comic book fan.
