@@Kurokami112 Dunno about that, the Luknights always up to a point where they completely rig an entire game just to make Luna win is on a different level.
I like the learning curve. At first everyone just did what they want, but overtime they learn the personality of the others, get more patient and decide on one strategy. You could write a psychology exam about this.
You'd be surprised. Last few times I've played League, the randoms on my team had better coordination than my friends in the Discord call. For some reason, voice chat became so much of a crutch for them that they don't listen to pings anymore.
I've had a moment like this before, in Triforce Heroes. One of our players went AFK - didn't leave the room, just stopped playing - halfway through the level. Me and the other still-active player got through fine, tossing the AFK player between us to continue progressing. But then we get to the boss, which normally requires all three players working in tandem, because there's parts where you need to be three Links tall, and times where you need to throw your top Link. I immediately recognize there's a way one of us could get out of bounds and use some of the background terrain to kill the boss from above. It was a complicated maneuver, but somehow I'd managed to convey exactly what I needed the other person to do to pull it off, using only the eight emotes the game gives us to communicate with. It felt super weird to actually pull off with a complete stranger I couldn't talk to, and made me really curious about studies done on how complex of an idea can you convey without actual language. Ironically, I never actually found such studies because I didn't know exactly how to phrase my search queries - I think I tried, and kept getting studies done on feral children.
It's called nonverbal communication. I wouldn't know the strictly technical term for your specific case (perhaps you can think up one and name it yourself) but the use of emotes is pretty much the video game equivalent of using facial expressions irl. Not only that, you have all sorts of gestures to indicate what you mean to convey, but most importantly it wouldn't work unless your conversing partner is on the same wavelength and is as tentative on deciphering the message as you intend to convey it. Communication is a lot more intuitive than we like to think!
As Ethan said, nonverbal communication would be your best keyword search. Other things you could look into is kinesics/body language. Though it will likely be harder to find that many studies done based on video game communication.
There's some research that shows that people's brainwaves sync when playing together even without communicating actually! I think the researchers suggested that might help with working together.
