    Thank you for the review! It's shame that the quality of the dolls is so much worse now. I used to collect Silkstone Barbie but got discouraged by the overall decline in style and quality of the dolls. They used to be amazing...

      Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed. I'm always late to the party with stuff like this haha, it's unfortunate my interest in Silkstone bubbled up as they're already on their way out. I bought Best to a Tea while she was still available as well. xD Here's hoping Mattel can make a comeback when it comes to true quality, because we've certainly adored much of what they've done in the past!

    Thanks for sharing your review. As I didn’t care for the final Platinum BFMC Barbie in the blue gown, I skipped buying her. Instead I chose to think of this Barbie Best Look Gift Set as the farewell to BFMC series for me. Collectors should know that this Barbie is wearing a hairnet that matches her hair & if you remove that, you can fluff out her hair to better resemble the promo photos. The brooch is on a pin & removable too. Try gently wiggling it side to side & very carefully pulling straight upwards. The pin on mine was covering where the top jacket snap was sewn all the way through, instead of just onto the garment’s facing. Fit on the lace body suit is tight, & the lace seems fragile. But I was able to just manage to get it on my doll. The necklace is easier to fasten if you carefully slightly open the hook. Hope my reply is helpful to you & other owners of this Barbie.

    • @ToyChat
      @ToyChat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I totally forgot to mention the red hairnet, ironic since I even filmed footage showing it lol. Personally I wasn't able to 'fluff' her hair while it was gelled, not much anyway. I ended up just completely boil washing it, but alarmingly it wouldn't straighten even after two full boil washes. But it at least has a nice Poison Ivy/Jessica Rabbit looking waviness to it now haha. Hmmm is the brooch really removable...? It didn't seem to budge on mine, I was really concerned if I tugged any harder something would break or rip. I watched another review on this same doll and the reviewer made the same comment, that she doesn't believe the brooch can be safely removed. Regardless, if it is somehow removable it should have been a simpler/clearer mechanism. Thank you for watching and for the informative comment!

    I’ve fallen behind on you boys’ past few videos but I’m so happy to see how you’ve grown! Congratulations! You know, I was a Silkstone collector myself for years but eventually transitioned to Poppy Parker. Mattel has had issues with quality for ages now. And Robert’s designs have trouble translating through the QC. But I do love the Silkstone sculpt. I miss Barbie’s hayday sometimes. As you said, they should keep grip on adult collectors because we love dolls too! Thanks boys, lovely review.

      Thank you so much for the sweet comment! Silkstone is so lovely, we hate to see it go...despite their clearly being some QC issues at this point. Barbie has weathered many storms before, so we'll see what she has in her future!

    So MGA can make a quality dolls with multiple outfits for less than $30 while Mattel charge for $100 and still cannot manage quality control? Ugh Barbie's quality has truly gone downhill through the years.

      Barbie need to review their whole bussiness model. I don't really like big headed dolls but I like the fashions and quality of MGA. If barbie could be like them I would be so happy.

    • @endor8witch
      @endor8witch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THIS. im shocked at how MGA can have their shit together and keep the cost low. then again, mattel has useless board of directors who take in fat cheques and do nothing so the prices need to be inflated

    • @ToyChat
      @ToyChat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The fact that Rainbow High is priced so reasonably, given how much they come with and the level of quality, definitely has us giving a harder look at higher end pricey releases! That being said, new brands often have something to prove in the first wave so they're likelier to put in extra effort for a better value (similarly to the first waves of Monster High / Ever After High), sometimes even selling at a loss, to appeal to new consumers for the long haul. Hopefully it's all maintained over time, best as they're able anyway. This Barbie honestly would have been very lovely if the QC was just there in full force...but alas. Thanks for watching! -Max

    Great Review, You guys are always honest and sincere in your videos. It would have been nice if the suit had spectator pumps instead of two pair of boring black heels. I liked how you suggested using string to fasten the necklace, at least she had a necklace. I feel that Mattel should recall the doll and send everyone that purchased from their website a new bodysuit that actually fits!

      Thank you for the kind words! Yes, the shoes on this one were lacking a bit as well but I rarely expect much from Barbie shoes lol unless it's a shoe-centric release. Tragically Mattel customer service did end up getting back to me but because the doll is sold out, they can't replace the bodysuit...my only option is a full return/refund. >_< Sang didn't have the same problem on his, so it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue. Luck of the draw it seems. ^^;; Thanks for watching! -Max

    I have been going through some of your old videos and just happened to see the RH Avery Styles review on the same night. Hard to believe Avery and all those clothes retailed for 1/2 the price of this Silkstone. I prefer the proportions of Barbie, but I am going to buy a least a couple of RH dolls. The value just stands out. I think collectors like details and things that work like they are supposed to. I don’t understand why this set is going for so much on eBay.
    If you haven’t purchased Black & White Forever, I think she is great value at the $75 USD For which I recently purchased her. Maybe the hair streak and metallic eyeshadow are a turn-off for some, so there is leftover stock, but I think she is darling. Although I haven’t unboxed her, another reviewer showed how lovely the bow in the back is.
    Max, you commented to another person that you did buy Best to a Tea. What did you think of her? I am half considering getting her ($83 USD) or Best in Black ($50 USD), only because they are still available for retail prices. I might just forget about them and save my money for the IT W Club this year.

  • @Bunny-ch2ul
    @Bunny-ch2ul 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The level of quality of Silkstone dolls has radically declined over the last few years. They used to be a really great value, but Mattel has had collectors complaining about the prices of the line since the beginning. It's unfortunate that they listened to those collectors because many long term fans (like me) feel very left out. As you pointed out, most of their collectible offerings are juvenile, at best, and the quality is quite poor. I didn't buy ANY of the dolls in this final collection. They're garbage. I switched to IT after being a Barbie devotee practically since birth. I don't know if Mattel purposefully handed all of their premium doll collectors to IT on a silver platter, but that's really what they ended up doing.
    Also, good luck getting replacement pieces. Sometimes they'll replace the doll outright, but the replacement frequently has the same issues. Sometimes they'll refund you. For a small issue they'll give you gift certificates that are only valid in physical stores, which are pretty useless since most Signature dolls are hard to impossible to find in mainstream stores, and most clerks don't know how to use the gift certificates. They haven't done replacement parts in forever.
    If you care about quality and service, skip Barbie, at least for the time being.

    • @ToyChat
      @ToyChat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ack - that's a bummer to hear! I actually haven't contacted Mattel yet about the bodysuit issue, but maybe I should today to see what they say. It would be a bit obnoxious if they end up requesting I replace the whole set, because yes there's no way of knowing in that case if I'll just encounter the same issue again. Pricing is a really rough conversation to have, because while $100 feels excessive at face value for a doll that has QC issues, it's still a much cheaper price point than IT's (nowadays) $140-170+ prices. But in their case, generally you get what you pay for.
      We recently had a conversation with another collector who's worked in the industry, and he mentioned that top tier quality control + doll development is actually quite costly on the manufacturing end, and to still make a profit, prices of the end product would have to rise. As you mentioned, groups of collectors complaining about price points seems to have left Mattel choosing to squeeze into tighter and tighter budgets, and in turn settle for lower quality products. So ultimately they've fallen back on the cheapest of all, playline, as their #1 focus. Thank you for watching and the informative comment! -Max

    Another great video presentation Boys, so thanks a million for that! Max, I can’t believe you waited until the last year of BFC to join!! You truly missed out on ALL thé really fantastic and amazing Barbies of earlier times! I’m a Platinum member since day 1, so this was my 20th year of Platinum membership, and sadly I think, my Final year! Mattel has sort of turned its back on adult collectors it feels like, so I too have moved on..... first year W Club member of IT creations so really excited for that!! Keep up the great work « les gars » and always watching for your up and comings.... Gilles

      It's definitely a bummer that the hair doesn't measure up to the promos in person. I actually boil washed it recently and it wouldn't fully straighten...it has some nice waves now, but definitely not the material we'd hope for / expect on a Signature doll. -Max

    I love my Proudly Pink and Black and White Forever Silkstones. I really wanted this one from seeing the promo pics but seeing the issues that many have with theirs I’m not sure I am willing to exchange my money for it. Especially since mattel Australia is not helpful with replacement of items.

      Proudly Pink is so cute, I love her! I've seen Black and White Forever in person as well, she's lovely. Honestly Silkstones are not like they used to be. Yes, I appreciate the articulation, but the quality control lately is really bad. And they are expensive dolls. I likes the aesthetic but apart form a few dolls, the dresses are basic, not fit properly, and the shoes are not exciting anymore. I appreciate your review, the doll is lovely, but compared con all the dolls in the market, and being mass produced.. The dolls should be less expensive.

    • @ToyChat
      @ToyChat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silkstone is a gorgeous sculpt, I wish I'd gotten into them sooner! But yes, other collectors seem to be echoing your sentiment that they were stronger in earlier releases. Proudly Pink wasn't too long ago and she was still a great doll overall-and I had no quality issues on her. Her ponytail was perfect! Price is a tricky subject because Mattel has dealt with many collectors not wanting to pay >$100 for anything, which restricts them from ever reaching extremely high quality control for adult collectors (like Integrity Toys, whose dolls are much more expensive) because there are constant price cap complaints. Based on people we've talked to in the industry, production & QC of detail heavy high end dolls can actually get quite costly. But still, yes...even paying >$50-70, we would hope to not run into so many of these issues in the end product. Thanks for watching & commenting!

    Since Mattel have a new CEO. All their products become low quality even hot wheels and many more and barbie is no exemption. I feel saddened when they discountinue the silkstone line and replaced it with pink collection with fashionista facemolds. Collector barbies are not worth it to buy now. I prefer buying old barbie dolls now which is more high quality compared now.
