I was born in Hanoi but never grew up there. My mother would steam these in the kitchen and I grew up in England eating these rolls of deliciousness. She bought the rice flour from Chinatown, made the batter and steamed them just like you see in this video. Thank you so much Mum ❤️ and thank you Max for reminding me of my childhood

Mình người miền Nam..nhưng công nhận Bắc làm Bánh Cuốn, Bánh Ướt vs một số món ăn ngon thật..lạ miệng..thèm cháo nấu nhuyễn nhừ kiểu Bắc...nhất là bún riêu, bánh đa cua, bún dọc mùng, bún mọc.. nữa

I love freshly cooked Banh Cuon. I had it almost everyday while I was in Vietnam 13 years ago for vacation. I could remember the freshness uhhhummmm so good.

I love Banh Cuon . I used to eat it every morning for breakfast . It's very cheap there comparing to other places in Hanoi . At Thanh Vân's on Pho Hang Ga ( Chicken street ) , the price is double . For me the best place for Banh Cuon in Saigon is at the food court in Ben Thanh market .

I was so shocked when I tried banh cuon. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did but it was a flavour bomb. I haven't stopped thinking of it since I left Vietnam and so far haven't been able to find it anywhere in Australia

Banh cuon would have to be one of my favorite dishes, it's simple clean and unique.. heck sign me up for any vietnamese dish with the word "banh" in front of it - banh mi, banh cuoi, banh lot, banh cam etc etc

Growing up in a small northern town right on the China border, we made bánh Cuốn differently. The main difference was that we used rich pig bone broth instead of fish sauce for dipping the bánh Cuốn. The dipping sauce can make or break the entire dish, so I think the flavorful bone broth from hours of slow simmering imbued bánh Cuốn with so much more depth and character compared to plain fish sauce. Those nuanced differences are what some of us who prefer the Cao Bang style bánh Cuốn enjoy over the version popularized in Hanoi.

I don't think it was dill though. It was probably cilantro. The blooming part of it looks very similar to dill.

There is Banh Ướt Giờ Lựa, a different version, no stuffed pork, only steamed rice squares with gio lua, boiled bean sprout, and basil. I like both, they are popular in Vietnam. Max try mi khô or mi nước, they are fantastic entree because I grew up in the South.
The cinnamon sausage or chả quế normally has some added sugar that's why it tastes sweeter than the chả lụa... The hành phi from this place looks so yummy 😋 I have to try next time in Hanoi
Although I prefer bánh ướt over bánh cuốn, those freshly rolled ones look super delicious! Max is caught speaking southern Vietnamese to northerners (nấm mèo vs mộc nhĩ, thịt heo vs thịt lợn...) but it's all good since there's no miscommunication.

There are a lot of bánh cuốn restaurants in HN and for a Vietnamese who have been here for 18 years I can not tell exactly which one is the best but thanks for your recommendation I gonna try this restaurant

Max, we eat bánh cuốn with beansprouts n herbs in the South. I think bánh cuốn originally is the Northern dish n doesn’t include beansprouts.
