The "arms are ropes" cue is valid mostly for the first pull, your arms must remain the most relaxed until you are basically extending, then you're gonna need them to guide the bar path. My trainer (81 years old btw) always says that keeping your arms relaxed helps you a lot with pull efficiency, trajectory and speed, because if you pull using your arms/bending them you are essentially fighting the bar being free during the pull. Also, this Lasha guy seems good, he should compete sometimes, maybe win some national competition
I'm not sure whether you are joking about Lasha "should compete sometimes", but he is already the two-time Olympic champion. Whenever Lasha competes in international competitions, the runner up is not even close.

Two referees turned down the 267 lift and the jury took 5 seconds to reverse the decision? Not sure they even looked at the replay. They also reversed and turned down other lifts that were very similar to this one, and should have been good lifts. No consistency here. The whole process is flawed. Why have three Level 1 referees and then five in a jury, not all who have monitors in front of them discuss and overturn decisions? Sure looks like there is coercion taking place in these discussions. No consistency on press outs at all. Lasha was great!
This. Lasha got two reds, but their challenge got the call reversed in no time. Whereas, a junior world record lift by Yousefi was overturned after they initially gave him two whites. Olympic weightlifting judging is the height of bullshit. Zack needs to comment on this.
I heard that they were worried about his left elbow being a bit soft? After the livestream I saw a video from a different angle, I think on Weightlifting House, and they appeared to be looking up at the screen on the replay, I know for sure it took longer than 5 seconds.

@@ev1bl completely agree, his snatches are much easier than his jerks. But when he wants to jerk it, and there seems to be a difference, like when he hit 265 I think. His second attempt, maybe 258 seems hard in the jerk, so we're think there is no way hes making 265/266 (I can't recall, it was 2 years ago) and he goes and smokes the jerk like its nothing. Lasha has for sure hit the 500kg total in training, but not well enough for them to do it in comp. Regardless, his snatch is better than his jerk, no question, but when he wants it he's got it. He is already legendary at this point, so everything else is to cement that and I think if 270 is on the bar he isn't missing it (cause his coaches aren't going to let him miss).
Ok so I have never watched weight lifting or tried it myself so I don't know if this is just the norm but something about the first lift really impressed me. The bar is incredibly static as he positions himself beneath it and takes the strain. The timing looks so immaculate to allow him to lock his arms out with the bar as high as possible and allow the weight to pick up no momentum after the snatch. Like I say maybe every elite lifter does this every time but it looks beautifully efficient here.
Didn't the judges question the C&J, initially giving it two red lights before quickly approving it? Why did they do that? I haven't seen that explained. Lift looked awesome to me...

The man’s opening lift is after pretty much everyone else has completed their third... at this point there isn’t any competition for Lasha except himself and it’s crazy to me the world’s greatest lifters are so far behind this guy.... he will get the 500 total soon the only question remaining is how far will he take the records... could he possibly put them so out of reach nobody in the next 50-100 years will touch them? I really hope he stays injury free and we get to witness the true potential of perhaps the greatest weightlifter who will ever live...
He's arm are slightly bended because of his arm length...If he keeps his arms full straight,the contact point will be very low,maybe hitting his genitals.Many lifters of his height or long armed lifters use this technique.Technique is a range,sometimes needs some fine tuning depending on various factors,mainly psysical factors(body type) or joint rrom restrictions.

I mean… Obviously that’s tough… But Lasha doesn’t make it seem like it’s that’s tough, does he? Even though one twitch and his arm would literally be ripped off his body. It’s not only a testament to his strength, his steady diet of trenbalogna sandwiches but just how efficient his movement really is. Anyone that lifts knows how wrong things go or how harder they feel if something is just slightly off. Now amplify that by the fact that the weight would paralyze you or kill you if you mess up.
First, congrats to Lasha on such an amazing and historic performance. He truly is the GOAT. That said, I can't help but notice that he seems to be getting substantially fatter; in the snatch, I wasn't sure how he was going to get the bar around his massive gut. I would hope his trainers would be thinking about his health as well as his performance. I would hate to hear 10 years from now that he's diabetic and has other major health problems.

It's a good begginer to intermediate level cue but you need to actively pull at some point

Elbow wobbled. Judges said press-out, jury quickly overturned it.
It's the left elbow, from this angle you can't see it. It's a good lift though I don't know what the judges were thinking.
