"[Del Toro] had only worked on two video game projects, both of which were canceled. The experiences had left Del Toro shaken, but with Kojima at his side he was ready to try once more." ...goddamnit, Konami.
_ArmoredGlassCannon [IRD] [NA] well after the huge success Capcom had with RE7 and remaking RE2 I bet Konami is kicking themselves in the ass cancelling Silent Hills.
Not at all. If the project had a real chance, it would have been made. You think any company would pass on a successful product? I think there was something wrong with it and it didn't look like it would be worth the risk (trailers and teasers mean nothing to a final product). Also, I suspect RE7 having something to do with it- or indeed being what P.T. ended up being. In any case, I don't lose sleep over this at all because of the first point I made. And for what it's worth, I am a massive fan of Silent Hill. I've been one since the PS1 era.
+Shadow Heart You seem to have more faith in Konami's decision-making than I do. The fact of the matter is they didn't want Kojima anymore and this was his project. They couldn't get it to work without him, so they tossed it aside as well. I'm glad it was abandoned. Silent Hills without Kojima would have been a disaster. I'm sure of that.
I knew and was amazed by the fact that Kojima was collaborating with Del Toro .. but I never knew Junji Ito was involved too ... I can't even imagine the potential awesomeness this project could have had
This. Im a big fan of junji ito works, tomie, uzumaki, and all his short mangas. I couldn't imagine what would happened if those 3 collaborating. Ye i know im sucks at english, pardon me
It actually broke my heart when I heard Junji Ito was involved as well. I had to pause the video and walk away, I felt so upset (once again) that we'd never see this masterpiece.
@deenman23 there are huge rumors that Death Stranding will actually be Silent Hills in the exact same vein that Kojima pulled The Phantom Pain. Neither Kojima nor Konami to this day has confirmed his departure via public statement (at least I don't think so). You really never know with Hideo, but it truly sounds like they had way too much riding on this to simply give up. Not to mention the Guillermo & Junji influences are riddled all over the Death Stranding trailer. Oh, and Norman Reedus...
@@puffbird2854 Just didn't grab me, as much as i love Kojima the whole story of Death Stranding just felt like Kojima jerking himself off and it just never connected for me.
@@ALivingFlame Guillermo is the old and weathered legend. Hideo is the young protege and recognizable new face. Ito is the miracle worker in the background of all of them.
Yeah, that would be great actually, especially with cloud gaming. Sadly, mobile game devs don't seem to care about games themselves, only microtransactions.
To whom? I don't think Kojima is the right person still. I don't doubt Kojima would give it his best shot but I just don't think his best would be good enough in the end to bring back the unique spirit of Silent Hill games. Also I'm pretty skeptical of his economical skills. Team Silent is gone :(
@@MuradBeybalaev The problem is that you can't just have a game be the exact copy of another game and still feel good to play. No disrespect to Team Silent, but they were not perfect either and I honestly didn't like the direction they were taking the series after the second game. Looking back, music was probably 40% of what made Silent Hill. Team Silent completely neglected the most glaring issue of Silent Hill - the combat system. Kojima was the series' best shot at evolving.
@@CanIHasThisName, what made Silent Hill was heaps of symbolism drenched in symbolism, rolled around in a pile of symbolism. That's honestly 90% of the game. And there was nothing wrong with the combat system. It was absolutely perfect for the kind of game it was intended for. You may disagree and I'm not here to change your mind. I'm here to let you know your opinion on the combat system isn't objective - other people may have a different one. But did you miss how the author of this video alluded to the fact that the latter teams', working on the series, attempt to trivialize combat was a major part of what buried the series? It's not a proper survival horror if the act of combat is not obtuse and alien, if it doesn't drain you of the sheer will to keep on fighting. You're supposed to avoid fighting altogether. Take Penumbra (1) for example. The first half is pretty good at being a survival horror but then you stumble upon a goddamn pickaxe and have an option to keep dragging it everywhere with you. It's the only weapon in the game and if you do hold onto it - the rest of the game is completely wasted down the drain. Viability of combat takes away the whole survival horror thing. The developers of that game took that lesson and there was no weapons in Penumbra 2 as well as in their latter cult hit - Amnesia.
Me too, the pain is still there. This is still the most tragic cancellation I have ever witnessed in the 30 years I play video games. If this would ever have been released the game would sell like hot cakes, there is and never will be anything like P.T. I still hope (even though the chances are little) that Death Stranding has something from P.T. in its DNA, you know?
This might sound selfish and immature..but..i don't want something better. I want what we were going to have. That game would have been THEE horror game. Atleast for me. I don't play horror games because i'm too much of a bitch. But PT/Silent Hills was too much of a masterpiece to pass on. I still have it installed on my ps4 and i'm pretty sure i'll never delete it.
You get the problem. Shitty practices don't ruin video games, they are just symptoms manifesting itself. The root of the problem is money. The market doesn't put developers with shitty practices (like lootboxes, shipping unfinished games, pay to win and the list goes on and on) out of business. How we are supposed to solve this I don't know, but it is something to ponder about.
Kinda hope all of them get together again for a horror game. Death Stranding looks cool, but more of a creepy surrealist game than horror to me. Still going to nab it when it releases
Dude, i din't even know Junji Ito was in on this. I practicaly climaxed at the thought of him working on a game with the rest of these glorious bastards.
@@Soybean13 trust him as far as you can throw him, im not going down the rabbit hole but especially after the latest trailer, the gameplay shown and just the vibe. This isnt like "uncharted" like he claimed. This is definitely more horror and we have yet to even see anything really
@@markusharroldhailey6688 No you wouldn't :D. If you saw Silent Hills sale projection in the millions and cost in the millions while you saw the mobile gaming cost in the thousands while profit in the billions you would jump on that ship too. There is however ONE silver line to all of this mobile crap: Market saturation. Eventually, even the mobile gaming market will get saturated, and there will be little money left to be made. Not because people stop buying mobile games in general, but because most of the buyer pool will be slowing down their purchases year ove year. The limiting factor is time (time that the customer has to play the games).
@@Salomon_G The people who run these companies are not brain dead, they can do basic math. Billions in the mobile market (especially in china) is not a low chance (especially if you are a well known studio with good franchise reputation). It may be a low chance in... France. Or Spain. One country with 40 million people where your target audience is probably under 2 million customers. Once you talk worldwide, that is a different story: Digital distribution of a small mobile game with added costs to the user by connecting to the internet to download skins and extras for a mobile game that costed 500 000 dollars to make? Yes, it is a smart business decision from a financial point of view. Will it sell better than competitors? Well that is the question. Because as far as I know, mobile users outnumber PC+Console by a decent margin. Obviously, not everyone who owns a smartphone games on it, but it is also the most popular platform for kids to play on (and kids buy with their parents money with no remorse).
Have you seen their financial details (public ones at least) for the past 2+ years? They aren't loosing money. They are winning lots with mobile gaming. The problem was that they didn't wanted to invest millions for a triple A title for 4 years to get the money back (or not) 5 years later. They are (and many others companies) investing on the short run with just a few thousands and getting millions in return. Was a safe bet from them going to mobile (with such great titles and they still have pachinko machines around Jp, like you wrote) to improve their financial state. They were loosing too much, so from a company perspective, was the right choice. Now from a gamer, it wasn't. I think they should "pass" (or sell) their game franchises to other big companies that want to create/publish their triple A titles. Still a big fan of all Hideo Kojima work, mainly with MG series and would love to see the first titles remastered and a finished MGS5: TPP. And of course, that Silent Hills saw the light of day.
Kojima is nowhere golden as you think. Yeah, he could be a safe bet, but he isn't a perfect one. Also, as notorious as they are, those machines are more than safe, they're making big moola lol
@@Falcon_Indestro Bitch ass pansies, all of you. Fuck the money, it wouldnt matter if they made all the money in the world, they are backstabbers and traitors. There are some things you just cant buy with money, like respect and dignitiy, something Konami knows nothing about anymore.
This game had such incredible potential, how Konami messed this up I will never know. The only positive of its cancellation is freeing up Kojima to work without creative constraints.
Wouldnt call that a creative constraint, Sony allows him to do whatever he wants. Sure it sucks for us Pc and Xbox gamers but for him personally its much better.
@@IbstarYT I do not know if sony is going to give him freedom.Sony will only let him go to far then pull that chain. Kojima has a problem with spending to much time and money on a game. To us it is not a problem but to Sony it is. The idea is to spend a lot less money then you are going to make. To be a console exclusive you have less of a audience to sell to. For example with this death stranding there has been tons of money spent on this game. The only thing Sony showed at E3 this year looked like a walking sim. This game was supposed to be out already. If it does not make a great profit margin Sony will drop him. In the end business is business.
Ironic since Silent hill is a game about facing your problems and inner demons and defeating them. And yet Silent Hills in itself, became an inner demon we need to move on from..
I really appreciate the mature, official sense of your narration. No swearing or babbling on and on about useless points. Just very clear and concise. Good speaking voice too, felt like I was watching a documentary 👏
As I've said before, a new generation of gamers could have had a Silent Hill experience that actually would have put the horror back in the franchise that it needed. Even though I'm not a fan of Metal Gear, I felt Kojima was the right person to go to. The P.T. had a great atmosphere and the puzzles akin to older Silent Hill games. This game will serve as an example of talent that was killed by a company that was unable to let the creators of the project be free in what they were creating. The cancellation of Silent Hills will forever be one of the greatest disappointments in video game history.
There's far to much assumption here. One, Nobody knows if kojima would have been able to pull of a horror game on the levels of masterpiece. Kojima might be a good stealth game maker but a horror game is a totally different beast. Two, How can you say that companies dont let their creator be free in the same vein as kojima and konami's relationship. People forget that kojima had full reign of his projects.. Matter of fact.. Kojima had tons and tons of freedom in konami. First lets go through the fact that castlevania lords of the shadow was suppose to just lord of shadows with no connection to castelvania and it was kojima who made it into to one. Second Konami let kojima grab the biggest tv star at the time to voice a fan favorite character WHO ALREADY HAD A VOICE and not only did they let him do this once, he did it twice. Three, do you realize that kojima had tons of failed projects that barely or didnt see the light of day. ZOE3 was cancel, and mgs rising was a nightmare of development for years(cancel many times) until platinum had to save the game and alot of this was during his stint as vice president(which during that same time the companies games and fourth he had his own company funded for years and I mean all the way funded.. do we forget all the marketing schemes? but Now all of a sudden he is a artist whose artistic freedom was hamper by the system? yeah aight. Kojima was fine with the system and at times was the system. Which leads me to my final point. How many projects of kojimas are really successes? not many and on top of that whats stopping him from doing that same project now. Its even better for him considering he now would OWN the ip. You know what's stopping him.. nothing. nothing at all.. Kojima might considered a legendary creator he isnt a man of no flaws.I personally think that he was costing konami alot of money and the development of mgs 5 was taking way to long but thats my opinion.
...and none of that could possibly be Konami being a stingy AAA company because...it's a AAA company and that's what they do? Look at the shit they made after he went, they clearly need him and didn't value him as an asset, if they let him have his vision with MGSV maybe it wouldn't have been probably the worst entry in the series. Rising was probably the same thing, you literally just made the assumption that it was Kojima's fault based on what? Are you seriously trying to say you believe Konami were making wise choices throughout this?Konami?Really? Because I think you should perhaps look up who you're defending there, the horrendous conditions with which they work their employees, their treatment of beloved franchises(MGS Pachinko!?) and their undending dedication to mediocrity. Kojima is the only reason they've been relevant this long, they gave up their meal ticket and are well on their way to destruction. PES ain't going to keep them afloat.
And the fact that you are forgetting is that Kojima was, that's right, the Vice President of the company, and funny enough, the company made the least turnover while Kojima was in that seat. Is anyone saying that Konami is innocent? No. But don't just look at two people, see one has a rapsheat, and call it case closed without even glancing at the other participant. At some point, we have to hold the developers of a game responsible for some decisions, because not every bad decision is the result of a publishers fuckery. And as such, when it came to Kojima, they knew his name brand would print fucking money, so they backed off and pretty much let him do what he needed to do. Except when his projects started to close down to release, were over budget, and were still far from finished, is it any wonder that Konami, or rather, any other fucking company, were upset?
The 4th wall breaks do it for me, it's extra creepy when you have to examine the meaning behind the puzzles in order to solve them, through clues like what 7780 stands for.
Oh I think EA was good in the beginning, like when they made the first Mirrors Edge, that was still something innovative, fun to play, and overall great. but then they sank to the money crapper too
EA has always been soulless motherfuckers even back in the day. They completely fucked over Richard Garriot back in the Origin System days and they killed so many amazing devs like Gremlin, Pandemic and Westood. With Microtransactions and loot boxes they just went full satan since people just fork money because of NFL and FIFA. EA has free money with their sports games so they can fuck us real good with games like battlefield and battlefront since even if it bombs they have infinite money
Somewhere out there, in a parallel universe, Silent Hills exists in a fully finished state with almost entire critical acclaim from both fans and critics alike. It would later go on to sell millions of copies and spark a new trend of Survival Horror games. It brought in so much success that companies like EA, Ubisoft, and Activision started making horror games of their own (kinda like it how it was in the late 90s & early 2000s.) Survival Horror games finally make a come back after being dead for nearly 20 years.
Press F to jumpscare? No thanks. This world, real or otherwise, is the only one we have, and PT is the only thing we got. Why not dealing with it as a means to understand what is wrong with the industry and modern gaming? One of the things that made PT so special is both its fate and its endless possibilities in the gamer's mind. There's no way a finished product would've achieved that. Also, it's not like there has been a shortage of horror games (Dead Space, FEAR, Penumbra/Amnesia/Soma, Outlast)... Shouldn't we stop expecting reality to be something it will never be and move on in order to do better?
I'll never forget downloading it the day it came out simply because it said "Not for the faint of heart" in the description. Jumped right into it without looking it up & ended up shitting myself all night long (got stuck several times) before finally looking up wtf I was playing only to find gameplay & rumors. For the first few days it was a mystery unlike anything I had ever seen. Then finding out it was a new Silent Hill, I shat myself again. I will never uninstall PT.
Dude there is an update out now with once installed deletes the game. I had it for so long and lost it just yesterday. Of course there are gameplay and I have my own too but since you do appear to be as passionate as me, I wanted to let you know.
TanTheMan sorry just saw your comment. My ps4 is up to date and I'm currently running PT just fine. Maybe you uninstalled it & the update deleted it from your library? I've heard that rumor before but not from someone who actually had it deleted.
dude I remember playing it at my dad's (he had the PS4) and I got stuck in the woman in front of the doorway scene and it was dark so I couldn't do it and I said I would continue next time I went there, suddenly the demo is taken off the store and to my surprise my dad had deleted it... still breaks my heart
Jonathan Ramirez The part where you gotta peek into the bathroom when the door is just barely cracked open? If so I got stuck there too, was share playing it at the time & my friend who wasn't even on the controller screamed just as loud as I did lmfao. Sucks your dad deleted it though. If you got a pc theres a good emulator for it that just came out using the Unreal engine.
In my restless dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill. You promised me you'd take me there again someday. But you never did. Well, I'm alone there now... In our 'special place'... Waiting for you... Waiting for you to come to see me. But you never do.

My thoughts exactly! Movies and theatre projects get so much sponsoring, yet no government is funding video games, as if it's not a form of entertainment at all.
@@NoctLightCloud The government does fund video games. They fund many army and fps shooters similar to Call of Duty in hopes it will get kids to want to join the military. Oh Silent Hills happened, Konami tried to cancel it, but Kojima's powerful essence willed it into existence. The only thing is, it was so amazing, that it branched off and created an alternate dimension, a beautiful world where Silent Hills reigned supreme. It isn't available on this plane because we simply did not deserve that genius masterpiece. To get there, look for a hole in your bathroom. Only the chosen will see it..

Poly hey I hear you dude. I’m so incredibly excited for Death Stranding and I fully stand behind everything Kojima does. I was mainly more talking about my sadness for the Silent Hill series and also making a dumb joke
Yeah, Ito's art is cool and very unique, but his stories are just comical tbh (like the Spiral story or that boy, who put nails in his mouth, whose family would react to his sadistic behaviour with smth like "Oh, you") But with the crew they had, they would have used his art's full potential
Roman Empaia I haven't read The Spiral Obsession yet,but Ito stories always leave me with a feeling of dread,I mean have you read "the enigma of amigara fault"? There was no gore or anything of what you'd expect but my god...
Sooo sad. This reminds me how wrong the modern gaming industry is. The suits calling all the shots without any idea of what gamers really want; they said, survival horror is over, consumers want big action roller-coaster with horror elements; single player is dead, consumers want multiplayer social experiences; consumers want video games as a service and micro-transactions; consumers want political correctness; and so on. Every one of this statements have proven to be wrong, and some how, these idiots keep running and ruining the media.
The Multiplayer bullshit started with cod fanboys/girls they are to be blamed. Industries make games with shitty storyline and add a multiplayer facility to it. Thanks noob cod fanboys.
totally agree, I'm tired of every game trying to make you play multiplayer more and more and single player experiences dying out, thankfully there are still many single player games to enjoy at the moment
I feel like Junji Ito often fails to get mentioned as someone who was attached to this project, a real shame, because in terms of absolute horror visualization he out classes guillermo del toro in almost every single way.
kimbercustompro1911. No,he doesn't outclass Del Toro. Del Toro isn't even a video game developer. Besides that just your opinion. I could very well say Del Toro outclasses Ito. See, I can be biased too.
chill out dude, it goes without saying that I was stating my opinion but if you need that clarified then hopefully now there shouldn't be any confusion. Also when speaking on the subject of horror why exactly is being a game developer so crucial in your opinion. I'm honestly curious and not trying to incite anything.
kimbercustompro1911. Because Del Toro makes movies and Ito makes video games. They're not even in the same fucking line of work So how in the hell does Ito outclass Del Toro in every way.? Also, if that's your opinion, how about saying it in your initial comment. Because anybody who says something like Junji Ito outclasses Del Toro in every way isn't stating an opinion, it's being a biased asshole. Especially since you gave no examples as to how Junji Ito outclasses Del Toro.
He blew out the budget for MGSV far past the budget Konami gave him and far past what the end product should've cost for equivalent work. Kojimatards will deny this.
@Cal August Hey, so, this Kojimatard decided to check out the profits that came in from MGSV. And here ya go. "This is up 1 million from the 5 million shipment figure that Konami announced back in October 2015. Konami's video game division, which it calls Digital Entertainment, posted revenue of ¥93.4 billion ($771.8 million) for the period and a profit of ¥25.5 billion ($210.8 million)" Cry me a fucking river you twat. They vastly profited WAY out of the red. They're so far into the green it's insane. Even if Kojima DID overspend his budget (Still want links to that) looks like it was worth it in the end. So - continue to defend Konami. Cooperate whores belong with Trumptards.
I literally just discovered junji ito the other day and wow, konami literally cancelled pure gold... think if somehow they put all three names on the cover of silent hills.
the Original Silent Hill is a masterpiece. The new generation of gamers nowadays really missed out a lot. Project Zero/Fatal Frame series should also much-needed recognition for great storylines, characters and gameplay.
@Trujillo2020 and @David Rodríguez Thank you so much, I thought I was alone in this world being absolutely not impressed with PT. Silent Hill is not about creepy scenarios, jump scares, ugly monsters. Silent Hill is about the ugliness that reside within every human soul, and how frightening it can be when we actually experience it. All the creepiness, monsters, disturbing noises and sounds, all of the horror elements that these games had were based in their character's personality/experiences/psychology. Is shocking that there are so many said Silent Hill fans that doesn't seem to understand what the true horror of the game was really about.
@@MsGabrielaDrummond I liked PT. A lot. But I loved the original trilogy. I think Kojima and his team realized that the SH games at their cores were more about the characters and the monsters were just reflections of their own inner demons. The chatter on the radio throughout hinted that that was where the story was headed. It was a teaser that reached notoriety levels of a full-game... but it was still just a teaser. I think people forget that.
I applaud the video for illuminating the brighter side of these events and attempting to end on a high note, but this just reminded me of how pissed off I was when I heard the game was canceled. I feel like screaming into a pillow now.
I'm still genuinely upset by this even today. The first four Silent Hill games were massively impactful on me growing up, and PT was the first experience that reminded me of what survival/horror titles have struggled to deliver since. There have been some amazing games along the way, such as Amnesia, or even great film experiences like It Follows or Under The Skin--but Silent Hill was always the pinnacle of horror for me. PT gave me a glimpse of something that showed the creators knew the key ingredients of what made the franchise work. However, we'll never get to experience it, or likely even some re-imagined version of the concept sans the Silent Hill title. It's deeply saddening...
"Your remake of our cancelled game is making our employees want to uncancel the game. But we hate money, so take it down!" Man, if that's all you have to say to get someone to take stuff down, then we have a dangerous precedent.
it's a crime against humanity for this to have been cancelled, especially with someone like Junji Ito on board to create new and fantastic horrors in the Silent Hill universe. fuckin' Konami, I hope they realise how much people hate them.
I won't believe that mobile gaming is the future of gaming at all!! There are still a lot of people who enjoy every second of a good game on home consoles on a good screen with a controler in their hands!...if quality and creativeness turns back there will also be a target audience...no matter what the market says...quality wins in long terms!!
Mobile gaming really is the future of gaming. That doesn't mean other forms of gaming don't have a future, but mobile will very likely remain the dominant platform. Most importantly because of availability. There's over 2 billion smartphone users and the userbase is still growing. It's safe to say most of them carry their phones with them. Mobile gaming requires no special hardware (other than powerful enough device), no additional drivers, libraries or software, and no advanced user knowledge. Little kids are able to download, setup and play these games. Mobile games provide quick entertainment without much commitment, so you can play for a few minutes while you're on the bus, coffee brake or... you know, on the toilet. As a market, mobile gaming has still a lot of maturing to do. Probably the worst are the companies wanting easy profit with the smallest possible investment. There's no excuse for a large company to spend months repairing a bug in a game that's only a few megabytes. Also, "microtransactions" which cost as much as AAA titles are an absolute joke, yet they're pretty common. Now here's a thing to consider. Smarphones are becoming more and more powerful, and there already are options to stream video from the phone to a larger screen. In the future, we'll start to see mobile games that are meant to expand to a large screen and perhaps use a dedicated peripheral such as a controller. Mobile games already provide level of graphical fidelity that isn't embarrassing. The potential to penetrate living room gaming market is there.
@@CanIHasThisName you got a point there...maybe we will set up "crazy mobile mother fucker gear" in our living rooms and experience the upcoming generation of games...still...there are games that need to be enjoyed...not when moving around or ..you know, on the toilet...unfortunately you guys are right...and we, from the older generations, will have to play oldschool games one day -.-
I, along with many, will continue to enjoy my computer/console(s). My phone isn’t for gaming - it’s a phone. While I might’ve adopted some previous computer habits-like watching TH-cam-it is not an alternative for gaming. I’ll never understand why people want to play on a tiny screen with awful controls when consoles are the status quo...
Silent Hills was and still is the horror game magnum opus it will be. Konami killed it. Capcom successfully revived it into Resident Evils, ushering the new era of horror game. They are showered with compliments and money from profits from all over the world. I wonder if the profit made from those pachinko machines worth the loss of humongous potential profit Konami would have earned.
Yeah but resi7 failed to scare me. I felt as if it was just a mere walking simulator with try-hard mutated human beings. Imo resi7 will always and forever be under the shadow of p.t.
Shout out to the 17 year old developer who came very close to making a remake for SH PT. That is pure dedication and pure love towards a franchise. Silent Hill shaped my art career and Masahiro is basically god to me. The fact that a 17 year old kid did such thing for the legacy of what i grew up with made me feel very emotional and has send me straight back to pen and paper.
Once the ps4 jailbreak starts supporting pirating you could probably install it through that. There's also the unreal engine fan remake from a few weeks ago, it got shutdown but I'm sure downloads could be found on Reddit. It has no where near as good graphics as PT on ps4 has though.
I'm very fortunate, in that I happened to download P.T. well before I even wrote for this channel. Genuinely one of my favorite experiences on the PS4.
I stumbled upon this channel last night and have been binging these docs. I was hesitant at first. This channel has been around since 2013 and only has 63 videos. I now see why. The amount of planning, research, and scripting that goes into these documentaries takes time. There is no other channel on TH-cam with video game docs as well made as these. I'd venture to say these are the best documentaries of this genre that you will find anywhere, online or TV. PLEASE share this channel with all of your gamer friends. These guys deserve all the credit in the world. It's unacceptable that PewDiePie can crap out a new video everyday and has over 100,000,000 subs, but a channel like GVMERS that actually takes time to create quality content has 300X fewer followers.
So does EA. They want really big hits, a lot of their IP's could make them money if they would just invest in another proper entry or remasters or remakes, but they refuse to do so, they only do their big titles, losing millions in unused assets
I've never been upset and angry over a games cancellation. I don't think I'll ever get over this one. Silent Hill 1-3 mean so much to me (especially 2). This looked like it was going to make SH special again. I never got to play PT because I got a PS4 after Konami pulled it. I will never forgive Konami. They will never get another penny off of me. Even if Death Stranding is a masterpiece it won't make up for this. #fuckonami.
I think Frellyouall is trying to say that cancelation of such promising title as Silent Hills can't be forgiven, even if it's original creators got chance to make another great game, regardless of the fact if its related to Konami or not.
I know Konami has nothing to do with Death Stranding. I was referring to people saying "Thanks to this we got Death Stranding." Even if it's great, for me it would not make up for SH cancellation. I will never give Konami money again. I will buy Death Stranding if it turns out to be good.

@@harperl2 Unfortunately, no.. not really. The only thing you can do is buy a console with it still installed.. which in itself will likely prove difficult. I researched and that was basically the conclusion I came to.. try find a console that has it.
There’s a theory that Silent Hills was never meant to come out, and that Kojima just wanted to give Konami hate for firing him by making what would probably be a good game (he never knew the details of the game because he hadn’t planned for it to come out) inside P.T. there’s a lot of hints that Kojima was being fired, one of the main ones is that 204863 is Kojima’s birthday, hinting that the game is about him, there’s a lot more to this theory you can look it up but there’s a lot of evidence for this Also Kojima was fires because he was taking to long to create games, and the company was spending a lot of money on games that weren’t coming out, meanwhile a mobile game made a million dollars a day so the company fired Kojima to focus on mobile, there’s a lot of evidence supporting that Kojima was given 2 years to make a game (I can’t remember what it was) and this game halted the making of Silent Hills, when he realized he didn’t have enough time to finish the game in two years he quickly and secretly made P.T which hinted at him being fired, also the reason P.T came out in such short notice was because if he told it to the public obviously Konami would find out that he was working on this secret project when he should have been working on a different game
Midnight Mechanic *Looks down* Yeah... I do. I think at any time...Any place... People can fall in love with each other. But if you love someone.... *Looks up Dramatically* You have to be able to protect them....
I can't begin to imagine what kind of body horrors Junji Ito could have come up with for the game. I'm a huge fan of his and his style suits the universe of Silent Hill perfectly. I have never played the games (only watched playthroughs) but i love reading up on the history of the story, looking up theories and admiring the monster designs and the psychology behind them. I can't imagine how avid horror gamers felt when Silent Hills got cancelled, especially those who've played all the games back in the day. Most of the die-hard fans grew up with the franchise and have seen it rise and fall. You've waited so long for a comeback. I really do hope that this project can be resurrected, but I doubt the same people will work on it, like Del Toro and Junji Ito. Maybe if fans keep making a riot, they'll give in eventually. I'm sure the creators are the most sad about the game being cancelled. Just looking at the demo, you can clearly see how much work and thought went into it. Let's hope for the best
PT had me hyped for a game that's genuinely disturbing and frightening! I want that, I'm not scared by blood n guts everywhere I like supernatural and real life horror (people are scary!) PT had so much potential it's a crying shame we gamers never got to see this game
Yeah, P.T. Was literally the first horror game that literally freaked me out. It disturbed me to my core and I won’t forget the experience of the game.
But the game isn't even out yet. You can't even really judge games until you get the complete finished product. I very much enjoyed P.T. no lie but how do we know that once we had the full game it would have been so good as the demo? How do we not know Death Stranding could be a masterpiece? Let's wait and see.
This would have been the kind of collaboration that happens once in a lifetime. The fucking planets were aligned in favor of this game being a masterpiece and Konami still said, "No." And it's not like the game wouldn't have been marketable to general audiences, Norman Reedus is a big name and Del Toro is a legendary director. Loads of people would be on board after just hearing those two names. Combine that with Kojima, Ito, and the Silent Hills IP, and fucking everyone would have been talking about it.
It's not phone games that are ruining games. It's not things like lootboxes, shitty battle royale's, overpriced dlc or shipping unfinished work either. It's at the base of all these issues, they are all just symptoms manifesting itself. It's money. It's almost never stated, the finger is almost always pointed to some more trivial thing in my opinion, but all those bad practices spawn from companies wanting to turn a profit on the backs of their customers, and somehow the market doesn't put developers with shitty practices out of business. Now how you are suposed to change this in a capitalist society I don't know, but it is something to take into consideration more deeply.
Lol, the games industry wouldn't exist in the way we want it in anything but a capitalist society. Government funded games = government control of the industry = garbage / censored / propaganda filled content.
@@TheUberKevlar I know that, never stated otherwise dude. The fact that i mention capitalism doesn't instantly mean i want communism. As i said, just something to think about. You know as well as i that all these practices come from wanting more profit.
"His six-year-old daughter had the good sense to hide in the bathroom, but reports suggest he lured her out by telling her it was just a game" Reminds me of the scene in God Told Me To.
For as short lived as P.T. and the Silent Hills development was, it did so much within the gaming industry. It woke up developers to they mistake. It brought back the want for horror games to be true to themselves. No more run and gun, here's loads of ammo, kill millions of undead bad guys. No, now it's, run, hide and survive once again. To that, we are all thankful.
Did you even play MGSV? It’s better than a lot of canon Metal Gear games and Survive just flat-out sucked. I hope Konami goes under like Tony Lawliet said
K Bell, oh man. Oh ho ho. You're so fucked in the head if you think MGS v is better then any game in the series. It had potential, but who gives a fuck about that if the final product is so abysmally shallow and inconstantly paced? Survive on the other hand gave us one sided but great experience much like peace walker did. You're blind man, replay all the games if you don't believe me, it won't take you much since most of them are like 10 hours long or less.

This video is so depressing. *I feel like we've missed out on a masterpiece*
HUGE masterpiece... :(
I've been one since the PS1 era.
shadow Heart Sure they do... That is why we have the pachinko game instead! It's totally 100 times better than the PT demo.
Bullshit
I knew and was amazed by the fact that Kojima was collaborating with Del Toro .. but I never knew Junji Ito was involved too ... I can't even imagine the potential awesomeness this project could have had

It actually broke my heart when I heard Junji Ito was involved as well. I had to pause the video and walk away, I felt so upset (once again) that we'd never see this masterpiece.
SAME!! Man, what a loss.
Holy shit junji ito was involved too? This game would've been terrifying.
Junji Ito + Kojima + del Toro + Reedus. Man, that would have been epic.

My blood boils every time I think about this. Such a disappointment.

Mobile games is how we can make the most cash.
They should save their income from the mobile and spend it on the development of Silent Hills
At least that what i would do
@@markusharroldhailey6688 No you wouldn't :D.
Once you talk worldwide, that is a different story:
Digital distribution of a small mobile game with added costs to the user by connecting to the internet to download skins and extras for a mobile game that costed 500 000 dollars to make? Yes, it is a smart business decision from a financial point of view.
Will it sell better than competitors? Well that is the question. Because as far as I know, mobile users outnumber PC+Console by a decent margin. Obviously, not everyone who owns a smartphone games on it, but it is also the most popular platform for kids to play on (and kids buy with their parents money with no remorse).
Mobile gamers are fucking gaaayyyyyyyy..
Konami had gold in their hands, but they throw it away, for a safe pachinko machine

Subi_fan death stranding he said was coming to PC. Sony doesn't own him for now, they just funded his game because of the obvious. He's Kojima.
Rune Correction: He is Hideo FREAKING Kojima. You must include his middle name, name that exemplifies an achievements of a master at game making.

We need a new game, made by new people, not one bound by an attrocious company.Fuck frenchises overall at this point.
What are you on about.. P.T. 'puzzles' weren't akin to the old silent Hill games at all
...and none of that could possibly be Konami being a stingy AAA company because...it's a AAA company and that's what they do?

Shouldn't we stop expecting reality to be something it will never be and move on in order to do better?
then EA tried to make micro-transaction horror games, loot boxes for weapons, monsters, soundtracks, keys so you could progress, etc...

The government does fund video games. They fund many army and fps shooters similar to Call of Duty in hopes it will get kids to want to join the military. They also fund many educational video games. Oh Silent Hills happened, Konami tried to cancel it, but Kojima's powerful essence willed it into existence. The only thing is, it was so amazing, that it branched off and created an alternate dimension, a beautiful world where Silent Hills reigned supreme. Now I’m angry again! I just heard that Junji Ito, one of my favourite manga horror creators, was in it too.
Yeah he was, that why we didn't see anything that resembles his work.
Same,this hurts even more now.
Yup when I heard that I was even more mad I still am. Junji Ito working on a horror game is a dream come true.
Yeah, Ito's art is cool and very unique, but his stories are just comical tbh (like the Spiral story or that boy, who put nails in his mouth, whose family would react to his sadistic behaviour with smth like "Oh, you")
But with the crew they had, they would have used his art's full potential
Roman Empaia I haven't read The Spiral Obsession yet,but Ito stories always leave me with a feeling of dread,I mean have you read "the enigma of amigara fault"?
There was no gore or anything of what you'd expect but my god...
The more I hear about this project, the more it breaks my heart.
Well done. This game is probably the biggest let down in gaming history to me personally, as a massive Silent Hill fan.
I agree, big time.
AMEN
The Multiplayer bullshit started with cod fanboys/girls they are to be blamed. Industries make games with shitty storyline and add a multiplayer facility to it. Thanks noob cod fanboys.
U sound like EA “Singleplayer is dead”
I'd rather get a root canal than play a mobile game again
totally agree, I'm tired of every game trying to make you play multiplayer more and more and single player experiences dying out, thankfully there are still many single player games to enjoy at the moment
Imagine this game on VR! You'll probably get PTSD after an hour of gaming.
I feel like Junji Ito often fails to get mentioned as someone who was attached to this project, a real shame, because in terms of absolute horror visualization he out classes
guillermo del toro in almost every single way.
kimbercustompro1911.
As far as I know Junji Ito is a Japanese manga artist. Your hilarious dude, please respond so I can continue to chuckle at your stupidity.
JUNJI ITO WAS ATTACHED TO SILENT HILLS?
Welp, didn't want to be happy today anyways.
Konami is dead to me.
@Franshisk why kojima?
Kojima is dead to me.
He blew out the budget for MGSV far past the budget Konami gave him and far past what the end product should've cost for equivalent work.
Kojimatards will deny this.
@Cal August Links? (Burden of proof if your automatic response is "look it up". You wanna talk about retards, that's a good place to start.)
@Cal August Hey, so, this Kojimatard decided to check out the profits that came in from MGSV. And here ya go. "This is up 1 million from the 5 million shipment figure that Konami announced back in October 2015. Konami's video game division, which it calls Digital Entertainment, posted revenue of ¥93.4 billion ($771.8 million) for the period and a profit of ¥25.5 billion ($210.8 million)"
Cry me a fucking river you twat.
Meanwhile, someone, somewhere in an alternate universe: imagine a universe where silent hills got cancelled
*mf jinxed us all*
konami is a joke now
They make so much money selling out their game labels for casino machines they couldn't care less, sadly....
Hearing that Junji Ito was involved is like rubbing salt into our wounds...
"Your remake of our cancelled game is making our employees want to uncancel the game. But we hate money, so take it down!"
Man, if that's all you have to say to get someone to take stuff down, then we have a dangerous precedent.
it's a crime against humanity for this to have been cancelled, especially with someone like Junji Ito on board to create new and fantastic horrors in the Silent Hill universe. fuckin' Konami, I hope they realise how much people hate them.
Hideo Kojima: We were on the verge of greatness, we were this close
I won't believe that mobile gaming is the future of gaming at all!!
There are still a lot of people who enjoy every second of a good game on home consoles on a good screen with a controler in their hands!...if quality and creativeness turns back there will also be a target audience...no matter what the market says...quality
wins in long terms!!
From computers, to consoles, to smartphones...
Sorry to say this but it is true.
Smartphone is the future of gaming.
@@CanIHasThisName you got a point there...maybe we will set up "crazy mobile mother fucker gear" in our living rooms and experience the upcoming generation of games...still...there are games that need to be enjoyed...not when moving around or ..you know, on the toilet...unfortunately you guys are right...and we, from the older generations, will have to play oldschool games one day -.-
Mobile gaming has the same future as the wii, its for casuals

I think it's a tie with capcom
So does EA. They want really big hits, a lot of their IP's could make them money if they would just invest in another proper entry or remasters or remakes, but they refuse to do so, they only do their big titles, losing millions in unused assets
This was great. I enjoy your documentaries on cancelled projects like this. :)
Cmoore Cash. Actually, Konami is behind Death Stranding. If Konami didn't treat Kojima like shit , Death Stranding most likely would not exist.

There’s a theory that Silent Hills was never meant to come out, and that Kojima just wanted to give Konami hate for firing him by making what would probably be a good game (he never knew the details of the game because he hadn’t planned for it to come out) inside P.T. there’s a lot of hints that Kojima was being fired, one of the main ones is that 204863 is Kojima’s birthday, hinting that the game is about him, there’s a lot more to this theory you can look it up but there’s a lot of evidence for this
Also Kojima was fires because he was taking to long to create games, and the company was spending a lot of money on games that weren’t coming out, meanwhile a mobile game made a million dollars a day so the company fired Kojima to focus on mobile, there’s a lot of evidence supporting that Kojima was given 2 years to make a game (I can’t remember what it was) and this game halted the making of Silent Hills, when he realized he didn’t have enough time to finish the game in two years he quickly and secretly made P.T which hinted at him being fired, also the reason P.T came out in such short notice was because if he told it to the public obviously Konami would find out that he was working on this secret project when he should have been working on a different game
The first teaser was different, then he found out he was getting demoted in the company, so he reworked the teaser to what it is now.
I'll take whatever tin foil hat he's got.

Guillermo Deltoro and Junji Ito we’re involved, this game would’ve been a goddamn horror game masterpiece.

@@sasutomato😂it failed, miserably.
This would have been the kind of collaboration that happens once in a lifetime. The fucking planets were aligned in favor of this game being a masterpiece and Konami still said, "No."
And it's not like the game wouldn't have been marketable to general audiences, Norman Reedus is a big name and Del Toro is a legendary director. Loads of people would be on board after just hearing those two names. Combine that with Kojima, Ito, and the Silent Hills IP, and fucking everyone would have been talking about it.

Mr Smarty-pants. Same can be said of all this online only battle royals FPS bullshit (Looks at Microsoft)
