I have the folding bushman. .. it fell in a campfire once. Melted the cord off and discolored the handle. I took it apart cleaned it up oiled it and put a piece of paracord on it and it's as good as new
Great to know! I'm intending to put on orange para cord when mine arrives. My older eyes like the bright colors for finding things dropped. Grinding a flat place on the blades spine is the only other 'mod' I think it may need.
Greetings from East Coast Canada, All i personally say is....I am a GIANT Fan of Cold Steel Knives & they have such huge quality for affordable prices !! Id take a Cold Steel ANY day over a Ka Bar or Ontario Knife !! Love your videos Sir & keep em coming. 💯👍🤝
I've had mine for years. It's long, but it's thin so I use it as my EDC. Very strong and if you somehow manage to break it, it's no big deal. It's durable to last you a long time, but cheap enough to replace. Only real downside it's got is that awkward closing and the handle can get slippery (being so thin doesn't help it either), but I've seen people just use a hide strap as a quick remedy when doing some more intense work.
Absolutely agree! It´´s my favorite folder. I have the BD-1 steel version, and it´s the best multi pupose knife you can carry in your pocket. A great american product. Greetings from Germany
This is not on topic at all, I just wanted you to know. About a month ago I ordered my first klik belt. I liked it so much I ordered my second. When I got it, it was all wrong, not due to klik belt but 100% fault on my part when ordering. I called and spoke to Donna, and she could have not made it any easier to replace it with what I wanted. These folks not only put out a great product, but Donna and her team offer outstanding customer service.
I have 3 of them! 1 in my git home bag, o1 in my inch bag and 1 as my edc. Love them . The only other folder I have is swiss army knives and Leatherman (for the other tools)
You seem to attract a lot of troll's who make uninformed comments; sorry about that, but thanks for doing this for us. I think you talked me into this knife, though been thinking about it for a while now. Yes, I intend to cut in a 90 degree flat on the blades spine. Though not a primary blade, it will make a fine and dandy, bottom of the pack, backup blade. Being stainless, it should not need too much attention as far as maintenance is concerned, best of both worlds.
One of the strongest locks available. Been carrying one for ten years. Bought a dozen of them as gifts. I think everyone I’ve given one to is still carrying it. Easy to clean, just drop in a pot of boiling water and rub clean. Perfect for a survival kit.
I don't know a lot about batoning a knife all I know is always thought it was sort of cool. Until one day I was in the situation to want to make a fire and we had some large wood but no small wood, I didn't expect to start a fire so I didn't have a hatchet or anything but I did have a mora basic and it batoned just what I needed saved the day and made me look like I knew what I was doing!
I was just going through my B.O.B. stuff and unearthed my pocket bushman ! Coincidence ? I think not :) Great review and I am relieved that it passed the balance test !
Looks to me like it would be good for an emergency kit or smaller EDC bag where a fixed blade of the same size might have too large a footprint to work. Because of the lock and uncomfortable (looking) handle I don't think it would make a good EDC pocket knife (and I do carry large folders sometimes.) I have been going back and forth about getting one and if I do I will probably take a spray can of that 'tool dip' type stuff, open the knife, stuff the channel with paper and then spray a section of the blade where it is actually gripped on both sides and down the back as well as the thin leading edges on either side of the channel. I did such a thing on a Buck Paklite (fixed blade) with a skeletonized handle and it really improves the security of the grip and comfort without really adding much to the width. As this is not a 'pretty' knife I would have no problem with that and think that it might actually improve the aesthetics (such as they are) a little. Wouldn't care if a little overspray got into the channel - just scrape it off with a razor blade or something. Don't know how long it would last but if it started to wear I could just spray, again.
I bought one a few years ago. Let me just say be very, very careful opening and closing this knife. The knife slipped in my hand a few years back and sent me to the emergency room for stitches in my hand. Even after that I can recommend this knife.
I remember watching a Nutnfancy review on this knife a long time ago. Apparently, he found a serious design flaw in that locking mechanism. Here's a link to the knife review video down below. You all can make of it what you will. Part 1: th-cam.com/video/3SHvzmUcIKc/w-d-xo.html Part 2: th-cam.com/video/IUoeyT5TWck/w-d-xo.html
I've had one for years, slow to open, slow to close, a bit heavy, and that handle isn't real friendly, but it's a tank and if all I had was a folder in a tuff situation I'd be glad to have it. Definitely not a kids knife and some women might struggle with the lock. Hell some men will too.
Agree with your comments about this knife. I bought one due to the strength claims (which are probably true), but as you say the locking system is a pain in the neck. When I saw a Blade HQ video testing various folding knife locking systems and saw the Buck 112 withstand without any damage 350lbs pressure on the handle (100lbs more than Cold Steel claims for this knife) I returned to the 112’s big brother - the Buck 110. This Cold Steel knife is IMHO a good knife, but the locking system was just too much for me to deal with when I have my 110.
Dang! I've seen that on Prime and just assumed it was like a 2 inch blade judging from the photo. Good find! What made you want to purchase that? It does mean something to someone who knows what it means. lol Good review, stop doing good reviews!
For me, I like the fact that this knife allows me to have a pretty good size knife in a smaller package than a fixed blade with the same size blade. And you are right, this is a little big to carry in my pocket. But I guess you could if you wanted to

it may not look cool and the lock may be a pain, but, hey, it passed the balance test with flying colors, so thats a definite plus in my books!

At this knifes weight and size why would you replace a similar sized fixed blade ?
Mostly because it will fit in a smaller space And still give you most of the functionality of a fixed blade
Great video and good reasoning. It’s fun for us knife lovers to try lots of options and find those perfect combos. Thanks
