Dear cold steel, I think it is fantastic how easy it is to remove the thumb studs on your blades, Please do not EVER change this even if it looks cooler. Can't tell you how much easier it makes my life being able to take those studs out with a screw driver instead of a hot stove and 2 vice grips. Makes sharpening, thinning and work on the knife much simpler.

I will always love Cold Steel. They just make excellent knives for the money. XHP Hold Out 3 for $75 on eBay? If it were Spyderco or Benchmade, double the price easily. All without that grand triad lock. People love to laugh at CS for that, claiming they will never need a lock that strong or they will never spine whack it, etc.. But that means you don't need seatbelts either, do you? Just drive carefully. ;) Accidents happen. And personally I'd rather have the best lock I can get, just to be safe when I have to have a folder. Maybe the naysayers would have an argument if CS knives with the triad lock were overpriced, but they're not. They're just great. Perfect? No, of course not. But they really are a great value, especially with the new blade steels. Thanks Cold Steel.
"[extrema ratio fulcrum II] has a specialized use. I don't know what that use is" Extrema Ratio is mall-ninja stuff. Blades with 18 different grinds, handles that are made out in random shape generators, etc.
That didnt really surprise me. I've heard a lot about failures from Extrema Ratio knives, the youtube user "Blackforestghost" trashed two of those things, one by hard use, the other by throwing, that cracked the handle of the *fixed blade*. I never bought into the Extrema Ratio hype, but it helped me make a theory: As long as you price your BS high enough, people will find a reason to justify the purchase and the lack of quality afterwards....
Lynn Thompson and Andrew Demko have arguably made the biggest impact on the knife community of anyone. There are a lot of great knives and designs, but these guys absolutely killed it for years. I like all of my cold steel knives. I own a Kukri machete and that thing is very useful in the bush.
Between 9:34 to 9:36 it is totally unclear what really is happening. To do this properly you must be shooting faster than the camera you are using, not from 24fps changed to 30fps for YT. Be more serious. It's clear this is a typical product slagging video rather than a serious "show down" I worked for many US companies and we always tried to find fault in our competitors or like but the one thing we did was to have a serious like for like show down. Also to be honest I don't like your back to the audience "concealing" what is going on out of sight of camera, some slight of hand LOL!
Come on mate take a joke re my last sentence! As for the rest before that. I stand by what I say. I would say all lock back knives subject that treatment would fail and BTW it's not exactly 30lb force at all. It is 30lb of torque on the handle, with whatever weight that is plus the weight of the pivoting arms plus acceleration due to gravity plus the mechanical advantage (length) of those pivoting arms, which if you would like to publish this I'll gladly post the real force that both samples were subject to in your sort of impact test examples. Or CS R and D could post the real force in Newtons for everyone. Congratulations on your Chinese/Taiwanese made knife not failing, that really is great and is good value for money because CS pays so little in off shore manufacturing. As an aside I really liked Cold Steel when they were all USA made.
Hi thanks for the kind words re my reviews! Well I just couldn't help it with this stuff. There is absolutely nothing wrong with "product show downs" I did it all the time once as a PM for a large US firm but if you have nothing to hide then the way to do it is fair and that means simply stating the facts. Otherwise you will at some point or other get "called out".
Hi there I have nothing to hide, you are correct in saying that. I'm still waiting for the CS R and D guys to publish in the public domain, in other words here on YT the numbers I was requesting. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the test they did. What was wrong (IMHO) was that they didn't actually say what the real forces were, which ( I can only guess as they did not tell me figures I was after, as I could do the calculations and publish the real forces in KgNm-2 and translate that back into a relevant "force in Kg", ok this would not be correct in a physics sense but maybe make more sense to non-physicists etc.). Benchmade for instance do exactly this with their tests of "strength". Certainly the CS knife did not fail and certainly the force was not a little but extremely severe for any lock back folder to endure and I suspect many knives of this design would have failed this test. I can't image under what real circumstances any knife would undergo such forces and if it did, and it was in the human hand then I'd be more worried about the damage to the human hand, regardless of even If it was holding onto the CS knife in the demonstration. Part of my point here was to say that although Volvo cars are undoubtably one of the safest and strongest vehicles on the road `(see their destruction tests) but that doesn't mean everyone should rush out and buy one (or they are the best cars on the road- they aren't (well in Volvo's eyes they are of course) and indeed this is the case). There is no argument about the "cost of the ER knives" being more. This is totally understandable as they are not made in Taiwan or China but made in Italy where at least the staff are getting a decent wage. Plus the raw materials are sourced in Europe not China or Taiwan. Don't get me wrong these countries produce some great stuff. But if you were to say make in the USA a high quality knife of similar design to the CS one in the demo here out of N690 and source the parts in the USA and do the heat treatment there too along with having American's make it then I'd be really surprised if it was not much more expensive than the one here. Now to come back to what you were saying about tests etc. Yep i could do it. just like they did, probably cost me about 500 bucks plus to set it up (not including the cost of the knives) but to be honest the forces are going to be unrealistic and that's why all of my tests in the field represent real usage and not destruction tests as they are pretty much irrelevant for knife users ( Not for car manufacturers though!). Certainly a Charpy impact test would be more relevant and produce some interesting figures. Everyone could then see and make up their own minds as to the relevance of such forces to their everyday usage..
I was not expecting that at all. I fully expected the Pocket Bushman to lose that fight, or if it did win that it would be a closer competition. I own a Pocket Bushman, and I an extremely happy now that I made that purchase. Thank you Cold Steel.
Yes, well..... I was rooting for the Bushman I have to admit (we like an underdog here in the UK, lol), But I was hoping for a bit more of a fight so to speak. But that Fulcrum was pretty unimpressive wasn't it ?
the fulcrum costs about 300 over here...thew bushman costs about 70 over here...still big difference.....any ideas how the lock of the bushman would compare to the tri ad?in fairness and defense of ER...the 690 steel is very nice and it can hold an edge...also it could take a fair amount of pressure on the side when prying....
Hello, I'm planning to give me a knife with this steel (N690Co) so I wanted to know from you if you actually held the edge well, it is robust in hard work and if it is enough steel when used in humid environments, in short, is really a great steel as they say?
I absolutely hate ER. They sell industrially manufactured knives for the price of custom blades - sometimes for even more and they don't perform any better than knives half the price.
Hey guys. I'd love to see you test the strength of the compression lock on the spyderco paramilitary 2. Maybe vs the American Lawman? I've always wondered how it would measure up to the triad lock. Great videos. Keep them coming.

+Perico De Lospalotes See my reply to Cold steel's. I am still waiting for the publishing of the real forces both these knives were subject to. Then everyone here can make a proper informed judgement about failing knives.
Ok so I stand by what I say regardless of all the comments here to date. CS please post the data I requested for all to see the real forces that these knives were subjected to. If you are going to produce these showman-like tests- that's fine but let's see the real figures like for example, when Benchmade do their destruction tests (done on the proper machine for a start) have no problems with showing the real figures. I don't believe Andras Havas is being a "mall Ninja" as you accuse him of (unnecessarily too here, for this thread), he was simply pointing out the facts. Also, what one is prepared to pay for a product of any kind simply depends on the "value that one sees in that product. "expensive" is a totally relative term based on personal preferences. So whether one decides to spend 300 bucks on a knife is totally dependent on personal choice it has absolutely nothing to do with being a "mall ninja".
I'm sorry. Where extrema ratio says the fulcrum II is strong as a fixed blade? Maybe the MPC can be a strong folding knife, but not as a fixed blade, of course, and E.R doesn't says in the website that the fulcrum II has "toughness comparable to a fixed blade". I Think C.S pocket bushman is a quite good knife but for me this is a no-sense rewiew.
Have to say csknives you have hit a home run with the 2015 lineup. Higher end steels, killer designs, wow my wallet can't keep up. 4max, new assisted opener, black talon, ultimate hunter and so many more I must have! Keep up the awesome job of producing super cool products. Love the lock test bids keep them coming.
I actually flat out broke the a large part of the tip off my Pocket Bushman.. it has a cool lock, but I have had nothing but bad look with the 4116 junk. Funny thing about Extrema Ratio, they actually make limited edition knives that come with special edition Lamborghini's in the tool/first aid kit under the hood. Also my Profile Pic is a Extrema Ratio Suppressor, in my opinion, one of the sexiest knives of all time... to bad it costs $600.
***** Yeah I was surprised with the tip problem as well because it is a rather stout clip point. I re-ground it into a tall drop point, and just lost about a .25 inch. I would be very excited to see the PB in D2 as well. Yeah Extrema Ration does have style... I feel a bit too much form over function. Just like Lamborghini.. they have Style and fit and finish, but for 400k, you get a lot faster of a car.
i think you guys should test out a medford praetorian. since u have done the sebenza u should totally take it another level with the tank of a knife and thats the praetorian
I never did like my chances at keeping my fingers if I got a pocket bushman. The way you need to close it makes my accident prone self nervous as all get out.
Have to say, i really dig the Review / Neck to Neck testing method, it really shows alot of your knifes and others as well, i mean no hate by that. Your product overviews are great and all, but those kinds of videos, altough 4-5 times as long, really show their value to me
You'll never see that video. I truly believe nothing out there that folds can beats it with that extra screw-in lockpin inserted. It's simply impossible for it to fold. With extreme forces the aluminum handle might deform or maybe the tang will break but no way that thing ever folds on a lock failure. That doesn't mean it can't be damaged, there's a video on YT where a guy hacks through a wooden beam with it and the knife developes play because of the axis pin denting the handle. The exact same issue that occurd to the BM Adamas in that Russian dudes video where he batons with it.
I'd like to see the benchmade 275 adamas vs a cold steel knife... they say it can hold up to 800lbs... I really doubt it... but I'd still like to see where it fails...
Just for the sake of comedy, would you consider testing an OTF knife such as the Scarab or against a butterfly knife? I realize there is some element of comedy in that, seeing what sort of force it would take to cause a knife which doesn't "fold" in the direction of the force applied, but it'd still be very interesting.
A knife, of that size, at that price point is good for one thing only... Putting it in a vitrine and admiring it for the ridiculous amount of money you've paid for it.
Knives and Motorcycles By button lock, do you mean an internal liner lock actuated with a button on the handle, or something different? It would be nice to see what a properly built liner lock with secondary safety can handle.
No, I mean the button actuated lock on the EX-01. Google Hogue EX-01 review and check it out. The designer did a few videos testing the lock strength, and it held quite a bit of weight, while still being easier to open and close than a triad lock. Would be an interesting comparison.
Interesting. I searched for that video and found a video of him speaking about sending the knife in for warrantee service, having it repaired but disagreeing with the cost of return shipping. Since I do not speak Russian, it's difficult to understand what exactly happened. Do you know how the knife failed and what caused the failure? Thank you.
I really did not think you could win this. The Extrema Ratio is a lot cheaper in the EU, being as it's made in Italia. But still nowhere near you pocket bushman. Absolutely amazing! Now go out and eat some spaghetti!
Oggi maggio 2023 kosta 55 euro ip belli kome i ballis0ng dal 2007 mai se rotto però in bosco suo accetto ac volte o usato ip mio kinfe bushman ed è un pezzo super cold steel 1 estrema ratio 0...
This is what I love to see out of cold steel. Even though they have knives on the higher end such as the SR1 and 4MAX that can be considered pricey (for good reason they are worth every bit), you never have to worry about giving up quality if you want to save a few bucks and just need a working mans knife that can perform the tasks that you ask of it safely and effectively. I honestly didn't expect the pocket bushman to win. when I saw it was the pocket bushman I thought well....shit. But this just reinforced what I already knew and that is that you never have to second guess your choice about reaching for a piece of cold steel.
I'd really enjoy seeing the Code-4 take on something similar, that and/or the 4-Max. These are the kind of knives I'm considering buying to carry daily as well as the Pocket Bushman, and they represent all three price ranges to boot.
SolidSnake2948 Scratch that, I went with the 3 inch Voyager Tanto Plain edge. It's perfectly legal to carry almost anywhere, has that awe inspiring Tri-ad lock and it's got that awesome Tanto tip for stabbing. What more could I possibly want?!
The little Pocket Bushman is a very impressive design in overall strength, and it does have a nice cutting blade with the full flat grind. It isn't as good an EDC as my Voyagers or other Tri-Ad knives, but as a pack knife I can see it being very handy.
Let's see the Spyderco Paramilitary 2! Although I don't "expect" it to win, I'd still like to see how much one of the most popular $100-200 production knives can do in these tests. Also cause I have one lol. Don't worry though, I have a Lawman as well ;) I've beat the hell outa it and batonned it through a bunch of wood one night, still good to go! Gotta get a 2015 CS now though..
When are you going to do the video test and torture of Cold Steel Pocket Bushman Edition 2015 as you do with other knives ??? 0.0 I think everyone would like to see what the 2015° model can do...!!!
Some peoples think that CS is expensive and overvaluated, i think for the quality is in a very good price range. I have a browing folding which cost 43 euros and i regret that, if it would be made before i probably had bought a bushman.
I was thinking of buying an Extrema Ratio knife and did a few searches here in February 2020. Thank goodness that the algorithms popped this video up on my tablet at this time. And thanks to Cold Steel...often put down for their graphic demonstrations, but the truth shall come out. Thanks to Andrew, you did not waste my time, but saved me hundreds of dollars. P.S. I bought my first Cold Steel about 30 years ago and the store clerk (who was about 20 years old) told me (I was about 40 at the time) that "COLD STEEL RULES, MAN". Truer words have never been spoken. I still use that phrase today.
Dear ***** team. I have been using your products for over ten years and for a good reason, as the rest of the knife world out there! I have been getting other knives from various manufacturers, for whatever reason and I still keep on coming back to your products as well as my answer to anyone who is looking for a blade of any sort is : get CS , nothing else ! Lately I have been tempted to test my Viper Start D2 Micarta against one of my CS folders, maybe the spear point Recon, but since the Viper is anniversary gift from my girl and most probably will be trashed, I'm kinda hesitant. So I think it would make a great candidate to put against one of yours. It's a back lock, it is regarded as tactical blade and I believe would be a good pick to run it through your hands. Best regards to everyone there !
Extrema ratio made a folder with a dual edge Dagger. The blade on this folder is exposed I brought it to their attention and they told me it's a design feature. Extrema trash.
No matter what is said and done no folding knife is worth over $500.00. Cold Steel is still one of the best knives on the market for the money. I have never broken a Cold Steel knife ever.
haha andrew is trying so hard to not laugh at how proud he is of his budget blade at more than once in this video, great stuff. i have a co worker who got made fun of for his tiny keychain knife so i gave him my pb. she changer her tune
Also, I'm curious as to why Andrew always puts the blades on top of the "spine-wack tester" when things are always fallin off of it? lol Great vids guys, keep 'em comming! :)
Cold Steel Pocket Bushman "Wins!" The Fulcrum II Folding Knife didn't stand a chance... Andrew Demko is the Folding Knife Lock Champion! Well done... :)
Hello, nice work, as always :) I'd like to present you with a kinda strange challenge: I'd like to see your AK47 (or recon one if you so prefer), agains the Fallkniven PXL. They should be comparable as far as weight is concerned, though the locking mechanism is different, the Fallkniven being a liner lock. thank you for your good work, and for the good videos!
Has anybody ever used a knife backwards that hard tho? Lol I’m not really sure what a test like this proves. I would’ve put the knife on it’s side and pressed down on the blade to see how easy it is to snap the blade off, that to me is the most important test for a folding knife
Cold Steel ma come mai fate sempre prove con extrema ratio? Se per voi solo coltelli scarsi perché non provate con altre marche? Forse perché riconoscete che sono migliori dei vostri?
MoreAmerican I'll visit him in person, and spend 5 months living in his house, eating his food and shitting in his bathroom. What's his home address, and social security number.
I have no idea of what this test is supposed to prove. It's like judging a car by its capability to withstand its own weight if hung by its front bumper. This test proved that the Fulcrum cannot withstand a 180lbs weight applied onto the BACK of its blade. Ok, good to know.
Honestly you guys should just stick to making good knives. If anything these videos actually dissuade me from buying your products. Was thinking of getting a magnum warcraft tanto but then I saw these vids and read somewhere you were suing some other knife maker for some stupid reason.
I love how people get all bent out of shape and accuse CS of cheating, favoritism, blah blah...!! Just admit you feel like an idiot for paying umpteen Dinero for a poor design with supposedly great materials! ! Get over it...
Dear cold steel, I think it is fantastic how easy it is to remove the thumb studs on your blades, Please do not EVER change this even if it looks cooler.
I guess it’s an extreme price / quality ratio
Mr. Demko states "the strongest Tri-ad lock is stronger than the bushman"... which knife(s) have the "strongest Tro-ad" locks?
Have to say csknives you have hit a home run with the 2015 lineup. Higher end steels, killer designs, wow my wallet can't keep up. 4max, new assisted opener, black talon, ultimate hunter and so many more I must have! Keep up the awesome job of producing super cool products. Love the lock test bids keep them coming.
More close up on the fail and defect please.
Are you going to make a video about the WASP Injection knife ?
Please test Extrema Ratio Fulcrum vs Coldsteel Leatherneck SF!
It would be very interesting to see CS vs Emerson Knives!
Where do you get the ballistic gel torsos? Not that it has anything to do with this video. Also great work guys love your products.
i think you guys should test out a medford praetorian. since u have done the sebenza u should totally take it another level with the tank of a knife and thats the praetorian
Cold Steel anytime anywhere. 52pcs and counting.
I never did like my chances at keeping my fingers if I got a pocket bushman. The way you need to close it makes my accident prone self nervous as all get out.
I think I'll stock with triad locks, thanks 😊
Less tests on hanged pigs, more comparison test like this! Thumb up big time
Have to say, i really dig the Review / Neck to Neck testing method, it really shows alot of your knifes and others as well, i mean no hate by that.
Your product overviews are great and all, but those kinds of videos, altough 4-5 times as long, really show their value to me
Damn... we've all been waiting for the RAO :(
You'll never see that video.
Way to go cold steel, cant wait to get my hands on the BD1 bushman (getting a D2 leatherneck first though)
I really do love these videos! Can I make a request for a manix 2 xl. Vs recon 1. I think that would be an epic battle
I always have a good laugh every time CS uses the term "catastrophic" when something fails.
I'd like to see the benchmade 275 adamas vs a cold steel knife... they say it can hold up to 800lbs... I really doubt it... but I'd still like to see where it fails...
Love my Adamas, don't think theres another folder that could beat it. About to pick up a Bushman too!
I like that cold steel makes budget folding knifes for people that don't make a lot of money. Thanks again Kyle fan for almost 3 years
Just for the sake of comedy, would you consider testing an OTF knife such as the Scarab or against a butterfly knife? I realize there is some element of comedy in that, seeing what sort of force it would take to cause a knife which doesn't "fold" in the direction of the force applied, but it'd still be very interesting.
Do a vs Medford please
A knife, of that size, at that price point is good for one thing only... Putting it in a vitrine and admiring it for the ridiculous amount of money you've paid for it.
I'm excited to see a Hogue EX-01 Auminum with button lock and manual safety!!
Knives and Motorcycles
By button lock, do you mean an internal liner lock actuated with a button on the handle, or something different? It would be nice to see what a properly built liner lock with secondary safety can handle.
No, I mean the button actuated lock on the EX-01. Google Hogue EX-01 review and check it out. The designer did a few videos testing the lock strength, and it held quite a bit of weight, while still being easier to open and close than a triad lock. Would be an interesting comparison.
Knives and Motorcycles Vininull tested the ex-01 or 03 and it failed pretty easily.
Thank you.
Spyderco Manix 2 XL, SOG Fatcat, Buck 110 Hunter, Emerson Commander
Try the benchmade 275 Adamas
I would like to see you guys test a Zero Tolerance 0200 vs your Large Vaquero Voyager.
Ct is a lock failure khives...lol
I really did not think you could win this. The Extrema Ratio is a lot cheaper in the EU, being as it's made in Italia. But still nowhere near you pocket bushman. Absolutely amazing! Now go out and eat some spaghetti!
More videos like this, thanks.
Let's see how a spyderco paramilitary 2 does against the triad lock.
Fantastic knife that Pocket Bushman and for a outstandingly reasonable price ,very hard to beat it.
I wish it put up more of a fight
I typically EDC a 6" Ti-Lite, so by comparison...
***** nice ok :D
Andrew (The Lockmaster) Demko!!!
Some peoples think that CS is expensive and overvaluated, i think for the quality is in a very good price range. I have a browing folding which cost 43 euros and i regret that, if it would be made before i probably had bought a bushman.
maybe next extrema ratio rao vs cold steel spartan?
socjopatix That is one challenge I think Cold Steel would lose... it is hard to argue with a .25 inch solid dead bolt.
Amazing knife for the price.
I have never broken a Cold Steel knife ever.
your camera guy seriusly needs to zoom in on the weight tests, i can't even see which knife is which... pisses me off bro
haha andrew is trying so hard to not laugh at how proud he is of his budget blade at more than once in this video, great stuff. i have a co worker who got made fun of for his tiny keychain knife so i gave him my pb. she changer her tune
Also, I'm curious as to why Andrew always puts the blades on top of the "spine-wack tester" when things are always fallin off of it? lol Great vids guys, keep 'em comming! :)
I wonder what folder this guy is carrying I bet it's a good one.
Cold Steel Pocket Bushman "Wins!" The Fulcrum II Folding Knife didn't stand a chance... Andrew Demko is the Folding Knife Lock Champion! Well done... :)
It would be more interesting to see a test how strong knifes are sideways because thats the weak point, not the way they folds.
Imagine paying $500 for that and then watching this! Just goes to show price doesn't always mean quality!
Hello, nice work, as always :)
I'd like to present you with a kinda strange challenge:
I'd like to see your AK47 (or recon one if you so prefer), agains the Fallkniven PXL.
Extrema Ratio just got rekt, m8.
extrema ratio is better
why you have two extrema ratio?
DO AN SOG ARC LOCK KNIFE!
Im buy a pocket bushman on net. Im waiting for delivery. I like cs knives since 2005. Hi all cs workers and all knife lover from Turkey.
what are you doing...using duck tape...hahahah
Proof! Nuff sed!
Cold Steel ma come mai fate sempre prove con extrema ratio?
Se per voi solo coltelli scarsi perché non provate con altre marche?
Forse perché riconoscete che sono migliori dei vostri?
cold steel knifes are so great you pay 40 $ or more but the quality is much better.
Great work!
I'll call Lynn. What's his cell number?
MoreAmerican I'll visit him in person, and spend 5 months living in his house, eating his food and shitting in his bathroom. What's his home address, and social security number.
He should take us all on safari; an army of cs customers, conquering the buffalo!
Knifecenter.com lists this knife as discontinued....it sure is ugly!
Very Impressive now i think i will cough up the money and get the warrior series Katana :)
Awesome.
test the code 4's!!!!!
Lol I bought my fulcrum 2 from the manufacturer for like 250$… 540, 700$ where the heck you lookin lol
I love how people get all bent out of shape and accuse CS of cheating, favoritism, blah blah...!! Just admit you feel like an idiot for paying umpteen Dinero for a poor design with supposedly great materials! ! Get over it...
But give God all the Glory!
No napewno hah pewnie specjalnie przerobili fulcruma zeby szybciej pekla blokada
cold steel, huh huh yeah richt!
