We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acre homestead. We just finished building our log cabin in 2018. Now we are focused on trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey we continue to develop our homestead and farm, while becoming more self sufficient.

I hope you and your family are blessed by God you are a living example that life is hard but having daily goals it's beautiful 🎉
YES ! YES ! YES !!! I LOVE the clearing land videos !!! Reminds me of back when my dad would say, boys, I want this fence row clean by the time I get home from work. My brother and I would work like dogs cleaning it up. I hated it back then, but, It is so satisfying, when you finish ! Thanks for the video ! Made my evening ! ..... we had to do it by hand.
My Dad always said "the best time to clear land was in the winter so you have to work to stay warm" !!! And with a battle axe , a bow saw , and a mowing scythe you definitely stay warm!!!
@@rayeddy528your right and the brush is hibernating for the winter, no green.
Evan, you have no idea how much pleasure and comfort I get from your video. When I’ve had a bad day, watching you and Rebekah brings me peace of mind. Thank you.
Amazing how much you can do with a tractor. I love tools that fits the job.
Hi..... Thanks you for showing your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
Next time it rains this much take pictures of where all the water sits. If you have a drone or can borrow one go up and take pictures. It can be a huge help when planning future drainage
The English put hedgerows between their trees and along fields for a reason. It helps slow down the wind (helps with soil erosion and the roots soak up water), provides cover for small animals and pollinators (absolutely necessary on a farm), and for privacy. You could plant a hedgerow on the opposite side of the trees from the road, so it wouldn’t affect your cars.
The Dust Bowl was the result of a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the America. That's when farmers learned to plant trees and bushes. The more open, the more wind damage.
This was also common in my area, in south-East Germany. We should not remove everything that was created by people in the past, but rather preserve it wisely using today's knowledge.
Osage Orange Hedges were planted so close to each other, only Rabbits & like size animals could penetrate it. No worry about livestock getting out. Also made great fence posts & best btu firewood & the thorns were numerous, sharp & long.
You and Pete are can't miss channels for me. Keep up the good work!
On your pole saw, it’s the connection where it screws together. Ours did the same thing and once we tightened that it worked fine.
Hi Evan they have a clamp type device for connecting pressurized hydraulic hoses.
I pulled a mess of posts with my buddies on a particular property, and it sure is nice having at least two people so you don't have to jump in and out of the tractor.
Thx again
Evan, I just love how you wait to do your upgrades, to do it right! All your projects are made to last for a long time! Which means, when you and Rebecca are ready to retire, all your infrastructure will be done. And ya'll will be ready for just regular maintenance and upkeep. That is smart farming! God Bless!
What a nice little homestead you've developed Evan and Rebekah❤
Hey Evan I had a boat like yours and didn't turn it over. It froze and poped a bunch of rivets. Don't make the same mistake unless you want a sieve. Thanks Evan
You did a good job along the fence line , it looks alot better ! I LOVE YOU GUYS ! 🥰🥰
And that's how you make the best of a bad situation. Power out? no problem we'll fire up the tractor and work with it. You made the best use of the time and got lots accomplished love it when days go by like that. well done and thanks for sharing. ECF
Looks like you got a pretty good start on that section of fence! It seems like we got more rain these past two weeks then we did all summer! Keep up the good work
Hi Evan. I think the cows need minerals if they are trying to eat or lick the gates and lick the metal on your overalls.
i think the cows want some minerals when they start licking metal objects 😝
Nice video
Maya has quite the personality.
Great job Evan ❣️
Nice work Evan have a great day.
Suggest you clean of the rust on your welding track for a cleaner surface for the weld also angle the edge to be welded for stronger and deeper penetration .
Fence line looks great.
Evan, if cattle eat too many pine needles they will abort the calf.
In Germany a hedge with lots of small trees is called a "knick". Good for wildlife and keeping the wind from blowing across the field. In East Germany they have huge fields, and to work them with the big machines these days, they remove the hedges between fields. One year a sandstorm caused a pile up of 85 cars on the Autobahn, killing 8. Personally, I would have kept the hedge.
Check the black collar between the two poles on the Dewalt. Sometimes the collar can spin loose and the connection for the power is lost causing it to go on and off.
Power outage. Never a dull moment. Another great video. Thank you, Have a great rest of your week.
On the pole saw, my cordless one hates to have stuff where the drive gear is. Like grass and stuff and it will bog down the chain. So pop the cover off and check the chain
Looking good, Evan! Our place seems secluded from the neighbors in the summer but when the leaves fall, we can see through the trees and underbrush. The critters don't really care if they have power other than their water freezing. We may have another cold front coming, but in another month or so we should be past any really cold weather. I applaud your work ethic, but it would surely be a good thing to go to church with Rebekah. It isn't all that much to give to the Lord. He's given us everything.
Love the layout of the property.
It definitely looks better Evan. Staging your camera while working must take a lot of time and effort. Especially when you are working solo. You got a ice looking Farm. No wonder you and Rebecca are working so hard. 👍🚜💪
I really enjoy your clean up videos. The barn, fence rows, pasture
Love my Dewalt pole pruner!! Make sure your connection between the two sections is locked together.
You are making progress.
You could add a hedge between the trees along to the road to give Rebecca her privacy back.
Like the video Evan and the clearing it look nice .
such a nice place to live. I do miss having a fireplace.
Aren't those handles for spray paint cans the best invention ever! 👍👍👍
Love the videos! Evan go to church with Rebecca . Please 🙏 don't stand under your tractor boom dangerous as can be !!!!!!!!! Love you both !
JudithB Looking good Evan!!! I am cleaning up leaves and hope to burn them before rain comes again. I got the push mower running and mowed the barn yard, sore arm and broke a sweat. Lots of clean up to do, but the Oaks dont drop all their leaves until the holidays when I am too busy to work on the mess...I turned the chickens into the garden after checking the hoop beds were closed good. Hope this weather comes back after the next storm!!!
Feels good clearing all the crap. I'd honestly dig a ditch on that wet area, will make a huge difference. Well done mate
I know it is your property and I would NEVER tell you what you can and can not do on it. I had 80 acres in Ohio and planted a lot of trees, shrubs and vines so I could hunt rabbits. I loved hunting rabbits.
Should plant some evergreens to help block your home. 💕💕🎶🎶
Check your chain oil reservoir it may be low. We all forget.
Nice job clearing, I agree with Becca about the exposure. Have you thought of a hedge.
Stick dang near hit me in the eye. 😊
When you told Rebecca she was running down the battery and she said im worth it and you said yes every penny that was grate that is how it's done
Paul, Ever since I started watching your videos over several years, you do wonderful jobs of "plowing even in the worst of snow storm and you have experience and you know what to do about it, ok? But I have one question.....how come you waited till the storm pass before you start plowing, it could've been at lot easier in the end if you plowed it half way thru the storm eventho it would've taken more fuel? In the long run, it would have been a lot easier on you! Just saying.....keep up the good work!😉
I have the same problem with my normal dewalt chainsaw. First one motor broke, second one stops and goes. I just think dewalt doesn’t make good saws. Love your videos!
good job mate
try setting your hay rake gentle and flick the twigs and clods off the driveway
probably get you a few brownie points with boss
Great job Evan and Rebekah! Love watching your videos!
Don't forget the bookcase!! 😜
Batteries don't like the cold.
Hey Evan, just a thought, you might want to install a couple plugs in your barn that are connected to your solar back up system and when you do that, plug your paint booth into that plug. I can see you losing power in the middle of painting and your paint booth collapsing on you and your freshly painted items. Doing this will also give you an option of running select tools while the power is out. Farms gotta farm, with or without power from the power companies and since you have options now, might as well take advantage of it.
Y'all are doing great work and the fence row is looking good so far and will look great this spring.
I'm in Illinois not that far away. It's awesome how you both maintain full time jobs but get the videos out. The taping and then editing has to be unreal. Thanks for the great video again brother...appreciate ya.
Nice job Evan & Rebecca! Solar saves the day! The fence clearing looks great. Your farmstead will look a lot different come Spring and Summer. Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
My dewalt pole saw is corroding where the poles screw together and not making connection
Hi Evan,Ed from Vermont
That's a rather exotic experience in my part of Northern Norway these days, it's been 30 years since the last powerout that lasted more than two hours. The infrastructure is quite robust and there are always people ready to go. Even during force 10 gales with snow if a tree falls on a line up in some remote mountain side they'll be up there in no time and blast it with dynamite.
It's almost sad, I like being without power, because then I get to use some of my prepper stuff. As long as the freezers don't thaw, that is. Of course I have many big bags of salt for such occasions, but I'd rather not.
You need to get some fire starter from outdoors with the Morgan's it works amazing
Maybe part of the reason for the battery staying up is that you were probably getting some contribution from the solar.
I like your cows and calefs and bulls and sheep. Good job and your chickens
you need some fire starter from Outdoor with the Morgans...
Dump the water and turn the boat over so it doesn't turn into a giant ice cube. Fence line looks good.
I always liked clearing fence rows, it makes everything look purdy. 👍👍💚
I like Purdue!
Purdy!!
@@stevenvogel6234 😁👍
Nice 😊
I think it always looks nice when a fence line is cleaned up, we did some of that last fall, with more in-store for the spring. Maya may be a little curious, but she is so cute, love the looks of the Jersey's, such big eyes. Like what your doing with the place, I hope you both have an awesome week.
You got a lot accomplished throughout the bad day with no power and just as you thought you were done the power came on and let you finish up with a great ending. Looks great Evan , hope Rebecca thawed out and still had a smile on her face too. Stay safe and keep up the good work. Fred.
Did you remember to patch that hole yet in the paint booth?
Maybe you need mineral block for cows?
Great job
“Hey Siri, what’s 63 degrees Fahrenheit in Celsius?”
17.2 degrees Celsius
Too bad you don't have a remote on that front end, you could pull those fence posts out without climbing in and out of the tractor every time! lol
I told my son about your paint tent. He called me a while ago and told me he ordered one. He is restoring a 1957 Volkswagen rag top and doing a beautiful job. He is now 55 years old, when he was in high school he worked in a shop that rebuilt Volkswagen products. They took an old one and when finished it was a new car and beautiful.
Dump the water out of the boat before it freezes and cracks it .
Great looking fence line. Its a lot of work but once completed the rewards will be worth it.
I want a video of you trying to get that bounce house back in the bag it came in.
I don't think I will ever get it back in the bag. I should buy a Christmas tree storage bag to put it in.
Actually, i use an air pump on the sucking end, to make the inflatable shrink. It’s how i get my birth pools small enough to get back in their bags.
Great show
That was funny, when you walked out of the paint booth and past the camera, after painting the fence wire, it was as if I caught a slight odor of paint, whoaaaaaaaaaa.........
Your homestead always looks do nice!
Wow that inflatable paint booth is so sweet!. I was thinking to keep from you guys having that mess in the barn again. Put some muck buckets and every stall and just go in there at the end of every day and add to the bucket and take it out once a week and dump it in the mulch bin.
Evan the farm is looking great she was taking off reading!!
👍🏼
It looks good your a hard worker
It’ll be beautiful this spring I’d bet Rebekah loves you more when you tell her that she’s wasting batteries It has to be a pinch yourself moment, when you get a project done like the new barn area done enough for now. You guys are waaay drier than we are south of the southern suburbs of the Chi!
Thanks for your time, well appreciated
I enjoy your videos. You should consider using a slip hook on your chain. I think you would find it makes it easier to pull posts.
Big improvement!
I have the same pole saw and it did the same thing. It ended up being the chain getting stuck in the bar because of a tight spot in the bar. A limb smashed it and caused a tight spot. I had to get a new bar.
Thank you great video Evan
It is always fun watching you go through your day. Sure looked comfy in the house when you started the fire for Rebecca. I have a pic of your house and pond as my laptop wallpaper. Really like how your house looks!!!
So enjoyable❤
Great job looking great love your videos thank you
I was sort of expecting the inflatable paint shop to touch a hot wood stove and fly around the workshop... LOL Been watching for a long time and I have to say, I am living vicariously through you...
Looks awesome AND fun!!
just an observation but when pulling things out of the ground like post center your chain between the loader arms because by pulling just on one side you,re putting a lot of stress on that side possibly blowing out a cylinder or twisting the loader arms
Hey Evan, was this filmed on Sunday. Shouldn’t you be at church with Rebecca?
The fence row is looking good!
We are getting rain storms non stop on the West Coast as well, Nice clean up job today ,
can you please turn your boat over.
