We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acre homestead. We just finished building our log cabin in 2018. Now we are focused on trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey we continue to develop our homestead and farm, while becoming more self sufficient.

Sorry the audio isn't correct. I didn't select "mono" when creating the video. So Rebekah's microphone is the left speaker, and my microphone is the right speaker. So it won't sound right if you use headphones or earbuds. Sorry about that.
Have you thought about hay for bedding i guess the gravel wont be good ?
Hi.... Evan and Rebecca thanks you for showing your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
One of the best loved channels on YT!! My wife and I have watched from the beginning. She went to Heaven back in July. I miss her so. She was a good woman and loved animals like Rebecca.
My deepest sympathy. Sorry for your loss 🙏
Lord have mercy! May her memory be eternal.
God bless you Steve, in JESUS NAME !!!
@steve.5, Sorry for your great loss. Stay strong. 🙏
You may want to look at adding stock panels to the inside of your barn to keep the animals from damaging the steel walls.
yep.... I agree.
we added old wood bridge planks to our barn at rear height , be a little more difficult with sheep too
This will be a much better place for the cows and sheep vs the back of the bank barn. I think some of the commenters fail to realize that both of you work full time jobs and then work your property while being TH-camrs , all without any outside help. The amount you two accomplish is awesome. Most other channels I have seen all they do is TH-cam , don't have outside jobs. My property here in Kansas is smaller than yours and I have a full time job and am a single guy with zero outside help. So I fully understand how hard it is. Everything is always a work in progress.
At 4:33 Rebecca was blissfully unaware of the mouse scurrying behind her to her right.
I told my husband the exact same thing 😂
I saw that also 😊
And two mice going separate ways at 12:03 LOL
You should start a bed pack for the animals. It will help keep them warm and comfortable. Laying on that gravel won't be very much fun for them.
Yep ..... I agree
i was just gonna say throw a stalk bale down or something
@@toddforhetz
So glad you got the cows and sheep in a better place.
Love the cow scratching Rebecca ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Always amazed how much just the two of you accomplish.
That cow is awesome
Thx again
One of your best music/edited yet !!
Your tractor looks a lot better with the ballast box 👍
Because you are rightfully concerned about stones, I'll suggest you but down a good layer of hay to start your bedding pack. If you put down fresh hay once a week - in a couple of weeks you won't even know that you have a stone base..
I think once the bedding pack builds up, the bigger stones won't be a concern. Good job!
Just a suggestion, add plywood to the bottom section of the Barn to keep hooves from going through the metal.
Yes to this- plywood(not OSB) to48” high.
Another good video ! I LOVE YOU GUYS !!!!!!!🥰🥰
I have never seen any farm animals ever raised on stone, it will destroy their hooves and get in between them, causing all kinds of problems, I would keep a watch on their hooves and make sure they stay okay.
Agreed, also wondering the effect of this much stone acting as a brake in manure spreader web. There will be a repair vid.
It sure feels good to have a project like this come together. You've given me a lot of good ideas for my own place. Thanks!
It is a nice barn for the critters....
💖💖💖💖💖💖
The new barn for the animals looks great and will help keep them safer out of all the mud. You two worked things out really well together. Stay safe and keep up the fun around there. Fred.
Nice barn for the animals in the winter. We used to take some of the older bales of hay and stack them around the outside of the building to kind of insulate it and keep the wind out. It works for awhile anyway.
Throw some junk hay on the ground to give em something nice to lay on, throw some kick boards up on the inside bottom 4ft or so to keep legs from going through the barn metal and this’ll make a nice spot for the critters.
Delightful delightful to see the animals safe n contented. Evans, why is your numbers do slow in going up. Only 151K sub with so much educational n authentic contents? Something wrong with the utube algorithm?! Folks, better check whether u have been unsubscribed. If those enjoyed the videos n are still not subscribers, please do so. Appreciate their effort n authenticy😊
Rebekah has become my favorite YT personality. Love your videos!! Keep em coming!
Don't forget something soft and warm for them to lay on like hay.
Great temp set-up, animals look happy!
I would add a roll hay to the floor to make beds and sleep on. The gravel will be very cold being on a frozen floor. Myia probably pulled enough hay out to make her a bed beside the hay rack.
You take such good care of your animals.
Outstanding job, you all really care for your animals, thanks for the consideration. 😌
How is the hog panel going to keep from moving when the cows go up to scratch on it or bed down next to it ? I worry about the hydrant. Maybe pound a couple rebar spikes near the hydrant. fingers crossed. I love watching your channel!
I loved Rebekah was with her cow, and she was loving it as much as the cow!
every barn I have been in the farmer provides bedding for the animals. sawdust, wood chips , straw, hay. for comfort of the animals and compost cleanup. I think it might add a bit of warmth to. what do you think
Looking good. Will be alot better for the animals. All the best 🇬🇧.
It will be interesting to see how this works out. Our critters were pushers and they would push the metal walls out. Nice set up though.
The most ideal would have been a concrete floor, you'll krrp putting in gravel over the years of cleaning it out, and a couple of bostalls will be an asset in there as well.
👏👏
You have accomplished a lot this fall and winter. Some old hay covering those stones would be good, grinding their knees against stones when they are getting up is not going to feel very good and can cause a bruise and swelling-
I don't see any lambing pens in the white pole barn. Lambing season is about to begin and you may want a few.
Panel at frost free hydrant needs bracing. They will push and rub against it
Dunno why but I laughed at all those mice hauling mouse butt out of that bale feeder. 😂
The rain you will get is the rain we have been getting the last three days down here in Texas,. As of right now...(still raining) we have gotten about 16 inches in the last three days. They forecasted 3 to 5 inches over the whole time. Boy were they wrong on that one!!!!
God bless the both of of you🙏🙏
The problem I see with the livestock in your barn is it has a gravel floor and when you clean it out this spring it's going to have gravel mixed in with the manure and what ever you use for bedding and you don't want to be spreading rock in your fields. Great videos and keep them coming
If you want the siding to stay intact you might like to put boards around the inside and if manure builds up it will also push walls out . Just saying
Need wood chips or straw on floor
I don't think you would have had any trouble with the sheep getting through the board fence. The boards are close enough together to keep them from getting through.
You. Two work well together. Good for you. And. Good luck
Put some bedding down to so they can lay in something warm
That works out perfectly. The animals approve. lol
Evan, If you could find a used brush from a power sweeper or snow sweeper, they make great scratch posts for cows to rub against…. With all the snow lately there ought to be plenty of them out there..
👍
IF you put hay in the barn put it up on some pallets to make the clean up easier. also put some panels around the walls to keep the animals from pushing the tin off the sheeting board , been there done that. you can drop a tarp from the top of the door to keep from losing as much heat too
You need a cow door like a doggie door. So they go in and out during the day, but it will stay dry on the inside. Love when Maya explores the camera!!
Why not throw some straw down so they would.
have something to lay on? Plus it might help keep them warm.
Yes your right on that one
you should try a cow scratcher
Great work, great teamwork...............last time my wife helped with yardwork she got lost in the yard......
Need to put down some old hay or straw for them to lay down in
Rebecca you can do evans back with that brush hahaha.
Hi, Evan and Rebekah! You two work so well together. This video is delightful. I love watching Rebekah interact with the animals.
The cows need a livestock scratch post!
The animals need some bedding.
Why don’t you half fill your tyres with water , it was the only way we could get the weight on the rear tyres other wise the tractor bounced when you had a plough on , so when you have a 28 foot plough you need to have plenty of grip , had a big farm paddocks went from a thousand acres to a hundred , I like your show and love watching you use all the old gear , oh today’s temperature was 40c heading for the rest of the week , all the best from Australia 🇦🇺
hey Evan and Reb, Good ove you to do whate you did with the Livestock .
I saw a little mouse running behind Rebecca 4:34
Hi guys, watch all the time. Shouldn't there be something on the gravel for them to lay in, laying on bare gravel cant be comfy.
You have found a really nice stable for the animals, only a little thing is still missing, but still distributed a location on the feeding point on a spot on a stain on which the animals can lie down, it is not only very important for the health of the animals , but they also feel more comfortable. I wish you a good time.
That's a much better barn to keep them dry! Evan you need to put some bedding in there for the animals!
They look very happy in there!
LOL. You may have to make a second opening since Maya is guarding her hay !😊
Looking good. Put down some old hay for bedding to keep them warm.
Thank you so much for sharing! Always enjoy!
Never has a domestic animal been so fortunate as to be cared for by you guys! You exercise your dominion over the animals in your care like God intended. (God said we can eat them)😂
Great job 👏
Great Video, a nice improvement for the Animals...
Thanks Guys
Are you gonna give them some straw to lay on?
You could put the cattle chute in the corner where the metal was and cut a door there to allow them passage
Personally, I first removed all the gravel and laid down a layer of straw. You don't want all that manure mixed into the gravel, do you?
exciting activities
Awesome job with the barn
Unless you put boards around the inside the aminals or they will destroy the Sheetal
It got cold to quickly but it looks good I know they will like it!!
Glad you fenced off the hydrant. You know how animals love to rub and break things or turn the water on. I have a similar situation in my barn and I really need to build something more permanent around it. thinking almost a sturdy frame with a door to keep livestock out and also allow me to open it up nicely for me to use. tall enough to be able to access the handle to turn on and off. Maybe with an open top so if the O'ring goes bad I can unscrew it, and have room to pull out the rod and 0'rings and replace them. I have the type you can repair it without digging.
Hate to say it, but I agree with others who expressed the preference for some sort of bedding, especially when it rains outside and they walk in with the mud on their hooves and it freezes to the ground when it gets cold again and would not be a smooth surface. Don't want to be a kibitzer, just my preference and I know how concerned you are for them. It could be added to and cleaned out later. If straw is expensive, old hay would work well.
Nice work
they gonna kick some dents in the siding
What about some bedding
Hi, watch a lot of your videos. Just hope you don't mind asking what you two do for your day job.
Hopefully the animals don’t destroy all the tin inside and out on the barn before you have a chance to put up protective Pens and fencing. Great channel.
Glad to see the cattle chute going inside, expensive piece of eguipment to leave out to the weather, I've watched farmers try to use them once they get rusty and it can get dangerious
Looking forward to seeing the progress you guys make!
Awesome, they look so happy! A change is always enriching anyway.
Turned out nice❤
Maya isn't spoiled is she... LOL
Enjoyed. Thanks for taking us along.
That came out very very good for you and animals Love it
How can there be a 5 ton weight limit on your roads? The counties and Ohio highway department use dump trucks loaded with gravel to plow snow. Probably 20 ton total weight.
Great new space for the animals!! Love it ❤ So glad yall got this all done. 😊 very nice.
