Anyone who watched Colorado during their cup run can attest to how good Byram is. He stepped in for Girard and showed his ceiling and then some. Sucks to see his injuries really catching up to him
He led in TOI in the FINALS. There is no twisting that stat. He steps up when it matters, so I don't put much stock in the current drop in form
@@seancolorado Agreed! He’s got the potential and ability to do so. But his situation isn’t far offs from that guy in Philly (can’t remember his name) from tragedies to concussions, Byram really has had it rough.

A 1st, RyJo, Byram for Walker and Middelstadt is honestly great. No prospects moved, only future lost was a 1st, which contenders don't need anyways. Definitely an upgrade.

Nuke going straight back to first line when he returns. His forecheck and presence in front of the net really open things up for Nate and Mikko.

We have had a shallow pool at center since the cup win. Missing Kadri, and Johansen didnt fill those shoes. Byram can be an excellent defender. Penalties have been a big issue for him this season. VERY excited to see Middlestadt with an A on his chest.
As a sabres fan yall are going to love him, everyone here in buffalo loved watching him. He’s an absolute stud.

I loved Bo and still do and he could be great for the Sabres, I wish him all the best. But he has not really lived up to that 4th overall status at all and the Avs needed a good C badly. So honestly I don't mind these moves at all.
Also hopefully this also means Malinski can get a regular spot on the D-core soon [if we cannot keep Walker], cause I loved what I have seen so far
Spot on about Malinksi, he showed a lot of potential while he was in there, looking forward to seeing more of him.
Byram lived up. Amazing as part of a cup run is automatically enough. But yeah, injuries other than that. If he ever gets on a roll again he's 👌though. You can see it even this year.

As a Sabres fan, its tough to see Mittsy go. Purely from a “he’s been here through it all” kind of way. However Byram 1 for 1 is pretty nuts

As an avs fan these trades are quite good for the team, although I will miss Byram. People are dissing Mittelstadt but the guy plays with speed and skill, the avalanches bread and butter and should make a great 2C for the team. The winger depth is still good with or without Landy (although if he returned it'd be much better) and Sean Walker is an interesting two way piece to pair with the offensively minded Girard, almost like a mini Makar/Toews line allowing Girard to take more risks like he tends to do.
Sabres fan, I love Mittelstadt and will miss him dearly, but Mitts isn’t a speedy guy by any means. He’s super skilled and possession dominant. Avs will absolutely adore him.

It's not really a steal for Buffalo anymore, they'll be lucky if it's even after a few years but Colorado wins the trade imo

definitely not a steal for the sabres lol. Byrams been having a rough go with injuries. Hes an excellent dman and hopefully he can reach his ceiling but his health is a major concern

Just think the Avs have Nuke coming back from player assistance any day, they have a young kid from Russia coming over (Kovalenko), and they might have Landy back for the playoffs. With these moves show me a more well rounded team in the NHL.
As an avs fan getting rid of Ryan Johansen was an absolute must at the deadline. Guy has absolutely stunk since he came to Colorado, frustrating player to watch. I hate to see Bo Byram go, that kid has legitimate potential to become a top 15 defender in the league. However, there was obviously a risk factor involved. I know everyone is raving about the Mittlestadt add (rightfully so, we finally got our 2C) but I really like Sean Walker as a fit on this D-Core, he plays like an avalanche defenseman. I'll put it that way.
I look forward to seeing how these new guys fit in with the avs but yeah ryjo had some decent moments start of the year but in general was a massive bust
If the Avs arent done, they go in one of two directions from here.... add even more offense or deal for goaltending.
i think georgie for gibson with ducks retaining at least %50 of gibson salary would be nice , getting alittle tired of seeing 4 plus goals every game with georgie in net , looking like tha damm oilers ffs , having to score 5-6 to win a game , that wont cut it in playoffs really would of liked to get the flower sucks he wants to stay with the mild

With Girard back to form though, we need more offensive depth instead of defense. Good move as much as I’ll cry myself to sleep because of it

Mitts is going to have to show he can be a consistent 55-60 point player (which he can be playing with the likes of Nuke and Lehky) and be at least competent defensively in order for this trade to have been worth it. He's also going to have to sign an affordable contract.
Also, no chance Landy comes back before next season; they cannot risk setting him back in his recovery by throwing him into the playoff fire. If he has any hope of resuming his career, he's going to have to wait until October to play competitive hockey. Even then, the odds are no better than 50/50 of him being anything close to what he was prior to the injury and surgery and having a reasonably good remainder of his career.

Clearing cap space AND adding an RHD that the Flyers don't want with a late 1st is great asset management. Adding that to swapping in a legit 2C in Casey for Bowen with Sean as his replacement is brilliant
You might have to do an Ivan Provorov trade tree at some point. Philly essentially got two first round and two second round picks for him. Sean Walker was part of the Provorov trade

Johansen does somewhat make sense for Philadelpiha, though I have to wonder if he's on his way to Boston or Toronto at a $2m cap hit.

People are massively overhyping the whole “Dahlin, Power, Byram” thing.
There is no way one of those guys isn’t playing on the right and they also have Samuelsson who is also left handed but plays mostly on the right. This team is going to get destroyed in right side defensive zone puck battles that could cost them games.
Not to make this about the Leafs but I'm making it about the Leafs. Almost every trade rumor about the Leafs has been trash, All the players mentioned have either signed with their teams or has been traded.
What can the Leafs really do to keep up with the panthers or even boston? I'm not sure there is a magic trade out there that fixes the issues with the Leafs.

I like these moves by Colorado a lot . They deal Byram from a position of depth and add Walker who is a veteran D. It feels a little premature to give up on him, but Mittlestadt has been really coming into his own the last few years and could thrive in Colorado’s offense. Getting out from under the Johansson contract is huge!

Dahlin is even better suited on the right side anyways. So their D Core could look like this:
Byram - Dahlin
Power - R. Johnson
Samuelsson - Clifton
Or you can also look at it as the Sabres have too many LHD and another trade involving one of them (not Dahlin) could be made to bring in a forward or a legit RHD

Most of johansens points came from tip-ins and finishing other players plays. Additionally, he looks awful on the avs. Watching him chug through the neutral zone at 5 mpg and chase plays all year has been painful. Im not sure if his skating is actually gone, or if hes just not motivated, and i suspect its mostly the latter, because he magically started scoring and skating right before the deadline. Guy needs to prove he wants to play hockey in the AHL

They never amounted to much.
Once a player shows their potential, they get traded.
I use to be a Sabres fan.....but I noticed the trend years ago.
They will never win the cup because its not their focus.
Their focus is not being sold and moved.
Pegula does not care about the Sabres.
He only cares about money, hence the empty arena.
Dude will be given a year or 2 to recoup, then he gets traded.

Byram is too fragile. He misses way too much time. He was good when they won the cup, but he has more below average games than good games this season. Good trade.

Have you watched Mittkestadt's highlights? He's a fabulous playmaker and passer who makes everyone better. He's never been with great players like Nuke and Lehky. He was an 8th overall pick and he plays great defense too. He's a perfect fit and could be our 2C for many years. Great trade.

Im so surprised by these trades for the Avs. Losing Byram and getting Walker???? Is that really an upgrade? Mittelstadt makes sense for the future assuming he shows growth but now idk. I think the Avs are worse on the back end and about the same on Fwd.
EDIT: I was not familiar with Mittelstadt's game. He has played well this year for a struggling Sabre team so its definitely an upgrade on Johansen. Still Byram vs Walker is a loss on the back end imo.

This is what is considered a blockbuster deal? Cmon man. This is a move to free up cap space where we give up a first round draft pick for a mid to low end D man and then an even trade between two teams.

Only time will tell but right now I think its more in favour the avs for what they needed and what they were willing to risk losing, Byram has been heading downhill since winning the cup in 22 so good luck keeping him healthy, I will miss him though for the avs
