The free particle is Utah. Not all the 'Yotes players may be on board, some may not like Salt Lake City much, and there are plenty of teams hedging bets on that. Not pointing to any situations in particular; it just seems the math all around the league has been funny, as if guided by invisible gravitational forces, and I'm guessing that's one of them. Yzerman tends to get things really right or really wrong when cooking. Either way, he thinks macro.
I doubt he traded Jake because of the Griddy. He only does the Griddy when he scores an overtime goal, which happens two or three times a year. Everybody got a kick out of it and an OT goal is something to celebrate.
*Yzerman stays around Michigan, you will randomly see him show up to local OHL games. Dude has an itch that will never be scratched. He is the most Michigan person ive known and hes Canadian. In Yzerman we trust.*
With Steve talking about all the streams his going to be doing especially one afternoon 5pm deadline on free agency, imagine if it peters out to nothing like the mid season trade deadline this season gone
Either there is another shoe to drop here in the form of a player to be signed to a new deal after July 1st (I don't know who this player is) going back to the Red Wings, there's something about Walman we don't know yet, or Yzerman is no longer a good GM.
Walman is weird, as his stats show. He really struggled to hang with Seider this time around. Tho I still wouldn't think you would need to give up a 2nd to dump him, and we still have Holl... Which sucks.
Red Wings fan here. He can go in a bunch of different directions with this. I think he’ll buyout Holl if he can’t get someone to take his contract freeing up another couple of million and then he’ll try to bring back Kane and Ghost and sign another big forward or he goes after Saros and maybe re-signs one of those two. If he signs Saros then I could see him buying out Husso too.
Is not the most likely here. A Ville Husso buyout will span 2 years, has a cost of $3,166,667 and savings of ONLY $1,583,333. Not see that coming, too much work for so little. However, A Justin Holl buyout will span 4 years, has a cost of $4,533,333 and savings of $2,266,667. Holl is 32 years of age at the time of the buyout; therefore, the buyout ratio is 2/3. With $6,800,000 in salary remaining, the cost is $4,533,333, and the savings are $2,266,667.
@@crossface222 A pure guess is that they both have a 10 team No trade contract today. Wille, I don't think he will be bought out at all.More off his last year will be more of a season where he can really prove that he is worth keeping or not (Cossa next year 25/26?). Holl is the one most of us think will be bought out, so no panic to do it "before" it's even possible to start such a deal before 7/1. Of the 22 teams that technically exist, none are interested in accepting his contract. So probably cheaper to buy him out over four years and admit that this was a mistake by S.Y.
@@crossface222 Interesting question. If Saros was the target as a third deal "from the beginning". In that case, it is most likely that Husso is involved in such a deal. That is, I don't think RW will keep Husso, but the question is where will Husso go, to Nashville? Saros is an A rank G (Husso not that much). Saros can play most games out of 82 as he has proven to do so before (Husso not so much). Saros would fit the RW timeline quite well as Saros is 29 this year. Cossa in 25/26 is given the best conditions to slot in the same way Saros did once upon a time. I'm not an expert on Nashville, I know they have Askarov and their other G is probably a UFA. The question is why Nashville would make such a 1vs1 deal. Probably something more needs to come with such a deal (Bergren, +?). I'm personally not against a Saro's deal here, the question is what such a deal really gone costs...
I understand moving Walman. I think us Wings fans overvalue him a little bit. Only thing I don’t get is having to attach the 2nd in order to move him. I’m gonna try to not react too much until after the draft and free agency period.
To be honest, Yzerman has been a MASSIVE letdown for me as a Wings fan. Like, okay, when he came in, it was the usual, briding contracts, signing guys like Filppula... eh, okay, but his drafting has not been anything special, nothing like in Tampa, Detroit had overpaid defence, so he got rid of those, and got more defencemen that he overpaid and the fans want out (I mean, Holl, seriously, I saw Steve lose his mind 50 times over him, and Yzerman paid him, fff-), and now it's the questionable moves like getting NOTHING for Walman, and actually giving up something to do it. Walman was not the problem. Why not try putting him on waivers to save the 2nd round pick?
The Wings are loaded on defense and need some of those prospects to move up to the big club so as not to lose them via waivers. With the extra space maybe Stevie can sign Mo, Raymond and Kane.
Raymond and Seider are going to get big deals in the coming weeks. I also believe he's going to resign. Walman was a salary cap casualty. There are probably more to come and a buy-out of either Holl or Chiarot.
I’m a sharks fan 🦈 and you came with some heat lol. That disrespectful team that was iced in all fairness won us the ultimate goal for our scenario. So I will wait until June 28th and then CELEbrate 🎉.
Using cap space you created from making a bad trade doesn’t mean you made that bad trade good now. It just means you made a bad trade to open space up. I just don’t understand not getting anything for Walman, let alone paying a second
As a Detroit fan, this is the biggest head-scratcher I've ever seen from Yzerman. The only consensus is that this is just a stepping stone to the actual move which has yet to happen at the time of this comment, but it hurts to see him go. Not even a month ago, Walman was on a Red Wings podcast and talked about how happy he was in Detroit, and that he wanted to retire here. Definitely a fan favorite and will be sorely missed. But at the end of the day, business is business.
Because Steve Yzerman is a Wing legend, Wings fans fall all over themselves defending him. If his name were "Joe Smith" he would have been ridden out of town 2 years ago.
Mo= 8m+, Raymond=8m+, So that leaves 16m+ on the table. Kane + Stamkos signing would rock the NHL. Will that happen? probably not, but what if it does? lol

is Yzerman playing the real NHL on a gamepad? did he drop it?
Damn, I'm so early the bots are still attacking. Yzerman has got to be trying to sign Kane and Ghost while still working the numbers for Seider and Raymond, not to mention Veleno needs a new contract.
He does not need to sign Kane. That player doesn’t need to come back.
@@workshoptelescope You mean Veleno?
@@darkphoenix2 neither player, sure. But they also have a roster minimum to hit.
@@workshoptelescopeglad you aren’t GM
@@aaronstark1969 thanks for sharing. 👍
Maybe the Red Wings are going to get future considerations Givani Smith and Filip Zadina?😅
Yzerman is cooking
Steve has done a great job with Tampa and has been doing good things in Detroit wait and see I bet he’s got something up his sleeve😊
Wings fan here... This story is still in progress, so I'm going to have to see what transpires from here on out.
Steve...do you block off time in the day where you're downstairs waiting for stuff or do you parent, see a trade/signing, etc drop and beeline it out from feeding Isla to roll into the videos? Genuinely curious.
Great trade for the Sharks! It helps that we suck now and have the Cap space to take this contract on!
Yzerman should have given up more and shipped away Holl instead.
I cracked up at "what the sharks put on the ice was disrespectful"
shayne gostisbehere caught the BIGGEST stray at 5:32:
I don’t like this deal at all as a Wings fan, but that’s mostly because I love Wally. A real heart and soul guy who was a fan fave. I think this wasn’t Holl or Petry because we have way less depth on the right side and because Holl might get waived.
As a red wings fan and a diehard Yzerman supporter im just going to say this trade absolutely pisses me off and there better be a bigger reason behind this because Jake was a fan favorite here and wanted to spend his whole career in Detroit
Go cry about it. This is a business not a popularity contest dance off. 20pt d men aren't exactly coveted assets.
Walman has a drug problem i heard
@@Toro_Da_Corsa You’re literally the first person I’ve ever seen on Earth that’s ever suggested that so I’m gonna go ahead and say that’s not true and this was for cap dump purposes
@@TBTasherI’ve heard from somewhere that he has a chronic injury that won’t go away, even with surgery, and they don’t expect him to even play in the NHL for the entire length of the contract

Love the Mr dress up shirt 👍🏼
Wallman is an asset ...in fact, many defenseman would be signed, at a good figure, as free agents..LoL
I have no idea why a pick had to be tied to Walman if you had to move him
No idea.what SY is cooking, but inwas shocked to see walman go, i could be wrong but i thought holl and petry have no trade clauses, i just hope these future considerations pay off. Does anyone have an example of future considerations paying off?
Blind faith in a GM is how the Wings become mid
Why? How many players from the ohl has he drafted since he's been gm? Not many.
Looks like he’s going for Stamkos. Let’s face it. He built that Lightning team.
Wings fan here
We like him
The wings had more double digit goal scorers than any other team i think. Walman has a huge clapper, one of the fastest in the league
Yzerman is trying to get celebriny😂
Stevie sending a message for that collapse against the sharks last winter 😂
With Steve talking about all the streams his going to be doing especially one afternoon 5pm deadline on free agency, imagine if it peters out to nothing like the mid season trade deadline this season gone
Interesting!🐣
Saw a Gibson trade and got excited… not quite
Yzerman making space for Marner? 👀
I think he is lining up for something big
Cap space to sign Kane?
He's trying to convince Parise to come back so they can sign both him and Suter like they wanted to do 25 years ago
Just a thought... whens the last time the leafs and wings made a trade?
Either there is another shoe to drop here in the form of a player to be signed to a new deal after July 1st (I don't know who this player is) going back to the Red Wings, there's something about Walman we don't know yet, or Yzerman is no longer a good GM.
Walman is weird, as his stats show. He really struggled to hang with Seider this time around. Tho I still wouldn't think you would need to give up a 2nd to dump him, and we still have Holl... Which sucks.
Looks like Stammer is going to Nashville
What a mystery. Perhaps Steve will find it in the Tickle Trunk.
@@billjohansson88 yeah but why keep either one if they aren’t going to play.
@@billjohansson88 if he signs Saros, do you see him hanging on to Husso?
No love for Mike Grier snagging a 2nd round pick in addition to a player we would have acquired outright with no sweetener?
Stevie Y im sure is eyeing stamkos
With the extra space maybe Stevie can sign Mo, Raymond and Kane.
the griddy gets a new area code.
Yzerman didn't like Walman doing the gritty, so he was traded 😂
The only way this trade makes sense is if the Red Wings sign a starter quality goalie under 24 for almost the same price as Walman
As a wings fan, yzerman could trade Larkin for a 6th round pick and our fanbase would ride his hockey stick and say "TrUsT THe YZeRPlAN"
Can’t wait to see what overpay SY does here. Tough to be a wings fan these days. Stuck in neutral.
Sharks fan here. Just you wait buddy, this young core is comin to knock whatever team austin matthews goes to out the playoffs in a couple years ;)
i hope Walman Griddys on people in SJ, ill miss him in the winged wheel.
Sad 2 c him go very solid blue liner..not sure how the cap is working as far as a dump this year but hoping charoit moll and petry r all gone
Raymond and Seider are going to get big deals in the coming weeks. I also believe he's going to resign. Walman was a salary cap casualty. There are probably more to come and a buy-out of either Holl or Chiarot.
Red Wings fan here. Love Steve Y but this trade definitely gave me pause. There has to be something he's up to.
"The team they iced last year was disrespectful." 💀
Bye, Wally? Can...can we pay Patrick Kane now? Maybe wheel that pick back out? Shuffle the deck, I guess.
He's gonna overpay Kane. Kane will be good, for a bit, and then he'll drop off.
Because Steve Yzerman is a Wing legend, Wings fans fall all over themselves defending him. If his name were "Joe Smith" he would have been ridden out of town 2 years ago.
marner to the wings confirmed!
You forgot to bring up the gritty.
I know Steve did not ask if Detroit like Steve Yzerman 😂
What would be the consequences for a team not making the cap floor?
Any of: a fine between $1m-5m, suspension of Club employees, or forfeiture of draft picks, after the case goes to an arbitrator.
Mo= 8m+, Raymond=8m+, So that leaves 16m+ on the table. Kane + Stamkos signing would rock the NHL. Will that happen? probably not, but what if it does? lol
