    My husband and I postponed our honeymoon as well! It was funny how people treated us when they heard that. But 8 months later we saved and planned for an amazing trip to Paris. No debt, no stress.

      We just stayed in a hotel in our city for 2 nights, then a month later we went on a trip we already had planned, which was a motorcycle ride from Oklahoma to Canada, then down to Pensacola, and back to Oklahoma. My husband liked the Canada part and I liked the beach part! (No debt, of course)

    Cool tips Rachel, thanks! We will:
    * Fly on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday
    * Check into hotel on Sunday
    * Vacation on non-crowded seasons
    * Check passport - passport expires 6 months before the actual expiration date printed.
    * Use a travel agent for international travel - ask if they charge a fee

    This is awesome! I will be getting married in May and my fiance and I are forgoing the honeymoon for a big 1-year anniversary trip. We are both bringing debt into the marriage but have a plan to pay it off before the end of the year.

    This is so good because we are just a few months from being DEBT FREE and we plan to celebrate with our first family vacation!! We’ve been married 6 years and we also didn’t take a honeymoon (though not by choice as my husband had emergency surgery day after our wedding!). We plan to take it by our 10th anniversary when all three of our kids are old enough to be away from mommy and daddy for a solid week with Grandma!

    My husband and I have been married 3 years now. We didn’t do a honeymoon. We didn’t even want one or even think about it. We were just excited to get our first apartment and start our lives together. It really isn’t a big deal not to have a honeymoon. You’ll get to go on a vacation or vacations later in life. The stress people put on others “big wedding” “honeymoon” I think is just silly. And we are in our mid 20’s. I think the older generation just loves traditional/traditions ways of lives. But it’s okay to live freely with what will make you better.

    We had planned on going on a honeymoon, and right after we bought our tickets, everything shut down because of COVID. We just went on our honeymoon this summer two years after we got married, and it was such a nice vacation and we both agreed that we enjoyed it so much more than we would have as our actual Honeymoon.

    We also waited for our honeymoon. Saved 4 years and went on a PAID FOR trip that allowed for all the fun we wanted! Really glad we did it that way.
    Our family's don't really do honeymoons. So not going on one wasn't abnormal. It was abnormal to them to spend the amount that we did. Which was less than $4000! 😂

    I love this episode!! The couple you’re interviewing is awesome and have a really good down to earth vibe ... they’ve got some good advice/words of wisdom. Also I love what your father in law suggested about saving a more expensive trip for later. Great episode Rachel!! We are saving now and thinking of ways to get creative so we can do a West Coast trip late Spring, early Summer. Birmingham, Alabama to somewhere California. Drive or fly? Trying to decide...... cannot wait though. Thanks for the encouragement & reminder not to get a credit card for the airline points.... friends keep suggesting it & I keep seeing it on blog posts, videos how it’s a great way to fly free. “We have never paid for a flight” was the tagline if one of the videos.... now that is tempting.

    Totally agree with you, Rachel! Checking things isn’t always a good thing. We once had our kid’s stroller lost when we checked it at the gate. I wasn’t happy at all! The one upside is that it was only an umbrella stroller, but now I don’t check anything 😂

    • @lindenpeters2601

      Many airlines don't allow strollers on board. You have to gate-check them.

    I think having a honeymoon at the 1yr mark is a much better idea. It would be a lot more fun when you are comfortable with your spouse then right after the wedding.

    A 15 year mortgage for a 1/4 take home is a mobile home or plot of land in LA. This is not based in reality. I wish she would run her numbers in LA or San Fran or NYC were the actual jobs are. Not everyone gets to work for their Dad. I did just get her book and am gonna read it this weekend. 😃

    • @lindenpeters2601
      @lindenpeters2601 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. With all their talk about "forever homes", people living in high cost-of-living areas would basically not afford their "forever" home until their kids are grown.

    • @4janey4
      @4janey4 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lindenpeters2601 i just started listening to her but dave ramsey definitely does not believe in the "forever home" concept. he always says "its just a home"... also just because you work in the city doesnt mean you have to live there. i work in nyc and live just outside the city. yea, its a bit more $$ than more rural areas but im also making more. its all about discerning what you can afford/what you need/what you want

    • @lindenpeters2601
      @lindenpeters2601 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mamamia: So sorry I understand and have been there. Rest when you can even if it means the housework does not get done. That will still be there in 20 years. Find friends and family that can help you along the way with childcare, housework, Etc. When you can fix large batches of food that you can freeze into smaller microwavable portions. I will be praying for you. My youngest didn't sleep through the night until he went to school. He's 22 and about to graduate from college. I miss him and his older sister that is 24!

    • @myrtlebeachsara
      @myrtlebeachsara 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of videos on sleep training. Put baby in crib sleepy but awake, they learn to put themselves to bed 😀 best thing we ever did, my baby slept 12 hours through the night at 2 months. Get on it, you'll be glad you did 😁

    • @lindenpeters2601
      @lindenpeters2601 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Babies are designed to eat round the clock. It's normal for them to wake up in the night. They also pick up on your mood when you hold them. So if you are irritated or treat them like they are doing something wrong when they wake up hungry...that doesn't help them sleep. This is referring to normal infant waking, not colic or other problems.

      I think she means that travel means less household responsibilities, like cleaning, cooking, dishes, laundry, etc. I love travel for the same reason. I can focus more on my family, and we all benefit from it.
