My X5 had NGK replacement plugs installed within the last few years, they didn't look too bad at all. However, changing them out anyway made the car run much better and idle a lot smoother. Definitely a must do maintenance item!
Thank you! I have a 2006 E53 4.4i and was considering doing this but was concerned about the lines running past where the coil packs reside. You just helped me realize that this is more than doable! Will be watching to see what other tricks I can pickup for my X5!
EveryDayPetrolHead thanks man! I avoided tackling this video for a while as well! It was much easier than I thought it would be. Definitely doable, just have a universal 3/8” joint and several lengths of extensions- it will allow for inserting the spark plug socket in the tight spots more easily.
i will definitely watch more of your videos as i am planning to do some videos of my own (I will make sure to cite you on anything I do similar). Its a respect thing people simply don't do these days.
@@josephwilson4164 I ended up using just a regular spark plug socket and kinda assembled it in the spark plug tube with some regular 3” extensions, and used a magnet to take it out piece by piece. The angle obviously makes it hard for a straight shot. However that swivel 6” sounds like it would’ve been ice to have.
Great video. Thank you for making it easy and saving me some serious cash. 🎉you da man. Except for the China plugs. My truck had Bosch plugs I went w ngk which to my amazement they are the oem. Ngk are solid
Hey bro you look like you know a lot about bmw's. I dont understand why my transmission is jerking. It jerks but still works that whats annoying. I just recently replaced the transmission pan and fluids but there is no difference in shifting gears. But what I did notice is that my transmission fluid was black and smelled like shit. Do you think something major is wrong like my transmission needs to be replaced or my transmission cooling system needs to be replaced or just needs to be updated.
Thanks Nour, that doesn't sound good! There are so many quirky elements to these cars that could cause a shifting issue that it's hard to diagnose over the internet. I would say to have a specialist take a look at it to get a better idea of what might be going on. Failing fuel pump can also cause jerking and cutting out.
Hey man, informative DIY. I just attempted this on my 4.8 and for the life of me couldn't even unclip the first coil pack....In the video you simply just lifted up and it unclipped. Mine won't budge and I doubt the 4.8 coils are that much different than 4.4. Ideas? Or am I literally a dumbass
Hi just wanno know my 2003 v8 shakes kinda rough idle and rattles on incline around 60k speed do i change all 8 set of spark plug and coils or just plugs cheers
You can change the set of plugs as part of a tune up. Very inexpensive. Coil packs are expensive… no need to replace unless you have specific misfire codes on a specific cylinder
@@jasbirmandi8512 still, you can change plug first. Switch that coil to another cylinder and see if the misfire code changes to that cylinder. If it does, that coil pack is bad. You can change just the one coil pack.
@@BIMMERZEITT hi mate i got to the stage loosen up the plug but could not get them out specially end ones kinda deep wouldnt hang on to the flexiblw plug opener. Any trick or other tool to get them out cheers
Nice video. It just sucks you bought counterfeit plugs and put them in that car. I could spot the fakes as soon as you held up the box and again with the plug.

What socket did you use?

Hey I’m about to do mine what all did you use?? I looked at a 6inch spark plug socket with swivel

This is an excellent video. No b.s, right to the point. High five!!

I believe those coil clips are usually etorx not torx. At least that’s been my experience.
Are these the same plugs on a n62b48 in a 2007 750i?
Do you have a video on this same motor doing vanos solenoid replacement?

Did you change the 2 seals that are under the valve body?

J D'Auria Use a screwdriver to i clip them.
Requires muscle lol I know your pain , wiggle a lot side to side front to back and pull at the same time. Don’t twist
Can you do a video for N62 fuel injectors? I would like to take them out for cleaning.

Thank You
Absolutely explicit and instructionally fluent
100 % Thank You.
Do iridium spark plugs work on a 3.0i x5 e53 engine
Can leaving out the retaining clip for the coil packs cause misfires?
Does it matter the tip meaning the tip if it has 1 loop or the 4 small loops on the tip

Hi, what type of tool or name of tool that was used to remove the vanity engine cover?
Hi thanks for the question, there are four torx bolts securing it to the engine. You’ll need a male torx bit socket set. Be well.
How to get out number 4 coil pack out so tight I cannot get it out
You didn't say what size spark plug socket are you messing up
How did you get the fourth one in/out? I am having trouble finding the s[ace to do it on my car
Andrew, watch the video all the way through. I explain it.
Andrew Xie remove the heater valve that’s against the drivers side firewall like he said watch the video
Thank you for sharing very useful.
All the best regards Dale
Should I replace ignition coils as well? Last changed 90k miles now at 130k
David King if you’re not having any misfire issues or dead coils you should get another 30-50k out of them. Save your $!
Ok thanks for the reply so I will only be changing into ngk spark plugs
Which ones are cylinder 1,5 and 8. Having misfire problem
Same...cylinder 5 for me...how do I identify which one is # 5 ?
Anybody having trouble on their 545i not fitting the 5/8 socket?
you don't torque the plugs by spec or anything. also you dont apply any anti seize on the plugs?
Jsm madrid he did apply anti seize..and torque is correct way but u can do it with the feel
