I started life at 5 or 6 in the Masonry business going to work with my dad. I wasn't a lot of help as a little guy but I lugged bricks, block and stone. Played in the sand pile with my Tonka Toys at times, can you imagine a kid with a 20 ton sand box? Well when I was 19 I fell asleep driving to work, drove off a bridge and broke my back. The "Professionals" all said you need to go to college now. I did what I was told and worked in Corporate America for nearly 20 years, hating every minute of it. I got laid off after being a Senior Operations Analyst for Sprint. As I drove home I felt the stress leave me and I decided I was done. I was a person with a REAL disability and I worked through it paying enough taxes to support a few families on welfare over the years. I decided to go on the dole. I made it 6 months and was going crazy. I went into a Big Box Store one day without thinking and the smell of lumber hit me! I thought "I could get a job here"! I talked to the powers that be, sold my construction knowledge and I have worked there for 13+ years designing custom Millwork, Doors and Windows. I will die before I go back! You will thank yourself!

I worked construction for years, now in retail as a manager. The job is fine, but I bought a house that needed work and 11.5 acres of hard woods. I'm alive here! Work pays the bills for now, but my homestead makes me alive. I'm happy again. Do what will make you happy. Also, thanks to buckin Billy here, I'm doing all my own fire wood, I've learned so much. Peace brother!

Hi Buckin, sorry I missed you last night. I had a very special trip to make. My daughter who was a crew member on the Diamond Princess cruise ship had been in quarantine for over a month! It was a long trip but I collected her and so blessed to have her home again. The love and kindness that she has been shown over the last month has been absolutely wonderful. Take care , be safe sending love and kindness to everybody. Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️

So Buckin' let's be real here just for 1 sec. Come on brother let's call a spade a spade for Pete sake. You're not a logger, axe man, tree guy. No sir. You're a freaking magician! I say that because I've been hooked on your channel for months now and you got me splitting wood all weekend! I love it. You were right. Granted I'm using a true temper with a plastic handle but you got me searching for old axe heads online too you bugger! And and I've been looking in my area for ol chainsaws. At work I had an old one in a budlight box all tore apart. Brought that thing home and ran it. I'm a mechanic by trade for over 15yrs now. I have calloused hands but you my friend gave me a new callous on a different part of my hands, I'll never forget that. To be real the positive vids out of your comments are awesome to say the least. Keep up the good work like we know you will.

Really enjoy watching you dance around the rounds, axe in hand and doing your craft. Not a word needed, just listening to the axe hitting the wood and that beautiful splitting sound. Pure down to earth soul cleansing work. I find a lot of relief when splitting wood, my friends think I’m a tad crazy, and in some ways they’re right but other than being around family and friends, axe in hand down in the trees is where I love to be.

I have a couple bills the clean up then I need to find something outside so I can feel better and feel better about myself. I love the outdoors. We weren't created to spend our lives inside.

Started to watch your channel in the last few months whilst off work sick. You remind me of my dad, the joy of being outside and using manual labour and creativity to fix things and appreciation for what you have, as you have earn every moment. I used to chop wood at 12, but liked doing the sticks for the fire, not bad for a girl.

your videos bring back my childhood memories of my grandpa and dad cutting and splitting firewood on our farm on a cold crisp morning in which I can still smell the 2 cycle smoke and saw dust just like it was yesterday. My grandpa had a mcculloch 1-40 and my dad had a mcculloch mac 10-10 which I still have today. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!

You know that bitter-sweet feeling you get when you've split your last few rounds and you look at the wood pile you've made with satisfaction? It's a great feeling but tinged with sadness that they're all gone, all split and the axe has to be still again.
    Until the next time.
I can see you're a man at peace with yourself here BR, thank you for sharing with us.
    Love.

Thanks Buckin,. i used to do a lot of bushwork in Canada. Forestry and claim staking. Had not thought about it for while. Living in the city now and working in an office. No regrets but I wanted to thank for reminding me of the satisfaction of using an axe. Thanks for bringing it all back. I Used to like oxheads but with your extensive collection your knowledge clearly surpasses mine.

Abraham Lincoln was quoted as saying “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax.” We have all seen the time Billy takes to sharpen and make sure all his tools (axes, saws, truck, etc...) are in proper working order. I also believe that the quote applies to your attitude and mental approach to things. I love it when Billy says he gets gorgeous/primo wood that splits easier than the gnarly stuff. Exactly! Take the time to sharpen your tools physically and mentally, then work with the right material and you will find more joy in your work! One of my favorite books is The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. "You are the driver of your bus!" Thanks to Billy and this channel. I enjoy the positivity and kindness you all share!!

Hey Buckin and everyone else on this wonderful channel! My grandpa taught me how to run a chainsaw when I was a teenager in the 80’s. He had a old McCulloch and it cut great as he always kept a sharp chain. He showed me how to file a chain too. I split wood by hand and helped him put his firewood up for many years. He always said “ if you cut and split your own wood, it warms you multiple times “. Such great memories with him looking back on it now. He was always teaching me and I appreciate it beyond words today. Thanks Gramps! My main heat in the winter up here in northern NY is from my soap stone wood stove- it looks similar to yours Buckin. It’s a Hearthstone “Mansfield “. I love it - great wood stove.

I had a 1991 F 250 4x4 with a port fuel injected 460. It had limited slip axles front and rear 4:10.1 ratio. I was a beast and never didn't do anything I asked of it. I live in Kansas City and a friends grandfather in Iowa died my friend wanted the grandfathers 1953 grain truck with less than 20k on it. The truck had dual tandem axles and an oak box so it was plenty heavy. We had to rent a big trailer to go get it. I drove home in overdrive with the a/c on and it rarely down shifted. Got the same mileage both ways! lol My truck had a triple core radiator and never got hot, work or play! Once I downsized I had 4 Rangers and they all had the 4.0 v6. I believe one of fords best engines. I put 363k on one and it didn't leak a drop. They all had 3:73.1 or 4:10.1 5 speed automatics 4x4 extra cabs.

I really miss wood heat. One of my favourite memories is being in a cabin in the arctic circle with a pot belly stove in -40C. That little stove kept us so hot that it was more like a sauna than a cabin. Only downside was leaving that cozy cabin to go to the outhouse in those temps!! Stay safe everyone.

Buckin is my long lost brother! We're so much alike it's not funny, I cut all my own firewood and split it by hand in my own little processing area a bit smaller than yours brother. And I hope everyone on here gets the same satisfaction I do by putting that axe or maul through that wood. Then sitting in front of the fireplace watching a movie while toasty! I picked up a real nice double bit for 30 bucks at a resale store here in Illinois. Super happy with it, can't seem to find any axe's around here but I'm gonna get one of your axe's when I'm back working full time when the weather breaks. I could try to swing it but momma might not be happy with me. And as for the thermostat on the Ford, next time drain a little coolant from the rad into a clean bucket or drain pan and there won't be any spillage in the future. I also like to give that gasket a little coating of high temp rtv just to make sure it seals up good since those old metal surface's might not be perfectly smooth. Keep the vids coming brother!!!

Buckin I read a story back in the 90's that said the cheapest way to get more power out of the 460 was to use a 160 thermostat. They even confirmed it at a drag strip. It worked in my 1986 460 3/4 ton.👍

I hear you on the stove. Owned a good medium sized one to heat the whole house - the heater was gas but the fan was good - the intake to the gas heater was at the top of the 18' A frame house and when the stove got the top warming I would turn on the fan in low and it put hot air in all rooms and circulated it in the main room as well. Now a fireplace that tends to eat wood and warm a room. Such is life. And we both loved the Jurassic wood Madrone. Skin bark with flowers. Bends like the wind and grows 12-18' going horz across a hill side.

Going through the exact same. Issue with my 84 F-250 with a 460, too hot. I replaced the fan clutch and the thermostat but put a 195 back in. I will pick up a 180 and swap it out. One of my projects this summer will be building a decent wood shed. Been using tarps but they are expensive and last only a year or a little better. Thanks Billy!

Those be some beautiful axes!! 🪓🪓🪓🪓 love how easy it looks when you split your wood! I love to split wood with a axe, but here in Michigan it is normally hard wood and it’s usually pretty gnarly! So it takes a long time to do. Nice job on the truck. Someday I hope to be able to afford one of your axes, I love the tazzie you built. Someday I will get one. Thanks for the video!! Love the content!! Keep it coming! Blessings brother!!
