- In this video, I will show you the location of the ALC pot to adjust the SSB power on your Bearcat 980 SSB. We will also look at some of the other adjustments you can make to your CB radio.

Those are variable resistors (pencil tip) the big ones are Slugs. Great video and good job on your tune up/adjustment procedure!!!

I had no idea it would be that simple. I figured it would not even have pots that could be adjusted Surface mount is too tiny for my equipment so I will have to do it as you did. Surface mount may be good for the factory but it eliminates me from basic repairs. The parts are just too small for my 73 year old eyes. But, I can do as you did, adjusting pots,, so thanks for the info. Kr66 James
It takes a magnifying glass to see the pot, but it's not too difficult if you are careful. 73s!

Great thorough demo,I am hearing a radio friend in Canada on a 980 that is slightly of freq & I see the three variable resistors cans next to each other in your video that might be for usb,lsb,fm adjust so I will tell him there are a few TH-cam videos on BC 980's. I am 317 Missouri &I like to say hello to you & you are always 10-8 out here in the midwest.

To be honest, I forgot which direction I turned the pot. I can't believe I didn't post which direction to turn to increase. I would start clockwise and then check to see if your power increases or decreases. 73s from 595 Northern Nevada.
Shouldn't you be using the "5" setting instead of "50" if running barefoot ??? 4 watts AM 12 SSB.
I don't understand how it can read as 15 watts ssb when on the 50 setting. I have the same meter. Maybe I just don't understand.
I have an amp I use for my 10 meter ham radio that is hooked up to my antenna system. My guess is that I forgot to turn off the amp when I switched the antenna over to my Bearcat 11 meter radio. Sorry about the confusion. I went back and blurred out the error to avoid confusing anyone. I went back and checked my adjustments on the meter with the amp off and the readings showed 15 watts.
