Horribly low range is their Achilles Heel (death blow).
Nobody, NOBODY can handle being out on their bike for a medium length Saturday cruise & run low on range / out of juice.
For "Urban ONLY" motorcyclists I think the EV bikes could work.
But thats a pretty small crowd to market to - Motorcyclists are way in the minority + ones who care about EV, even less.
Being the so called "climate crisis" is 98.5% illusory, there's just no broad call for EV bikes.
I will say that E-Bikes have their place - be they Fat Tire MTB style or Road Bike style - but they're replacing / augmenting Bicycles NOT Motorcycles !
I may be the rare person that has both Motorcycle (ADV Suzuki V-Strom 650) and Mountain bike & Road bikes.
Love anything on 2 wheels !

There is a segment for electric motorcycles, like small commuting scooters, but the prices are as insane as in the auto EV segment. Look at the Gogoro in Taiwan. That concept of easily swappable batteries looks smart, but I dont know the fees and the sustainability.

    Its very simple.
The new generation do not ride bikes.
Back in the day 9 out 10 kids would have their first bike at early teens or earlier.
Now 1 out of 10 and if.
The out of reach prices its a big factor.
For the same money a teenager can buy a used car.
    The choice its obvious.

@@ranchodeluxe1 I just replaced my 2003 100th Anniversary Ultra that had 135K miles with a 2012 Ultra Classic with 20K miles. I kept my choice earlier than 2014 to avoid the TV screens and also the diminishing of so much trim detail. The 2025 Ultras now have a screen that totally eliminates all real gauges. When the bike is off it simply looks like crap. Like you I'll buy used. I think riders are trading in these bikes and not replacing them. The used market is flooded, which is keeping new bike sales way down.

@@halnwheels My local dealer's 25 miles from Sturgis. They probably make more on used bike sales than new. My shop is just down the street so I get quite a few guys who just want a quick used bike inspection. Guys are coming by here with older touring bikes with 30k miles, perfect shape and in the $5k range. That's a lot of cheap miles if your ego can handle an older bike. Back when 95 ci big bore kits and 103 conversions were the rage, I ratholed several sets of brand-new cylinders, pistons, rings, heads, lifters, flywheels, etc. I did this knowing that I'll be able to run those older Touring bikes for the rest of my riding life and keep them going for virtually nothing but gaskets, seals and oil.

The 'delayed' transition to electric has nothing to do with this slump. The reasons behind it are simple. One, younger people don't ride as much as we do. My nephew wants a bike, I don't know of any other kids who want one, it's not even on their radar. Two, the bikes cost too damn much for what you get. Harley is a particular offender here. There's only so much you can, and should, jam on to a bike technology-wise. Indian offers a bit more than Harley for the price, but this goes to number three. Three, say I buy a nice bike with navigation and safety features, what good is the navigation if the bike is built for an anorexic midget contortionist, and has about 120 miles of range, give or take? What good are the safety features when the main causes of bike accidents are solo accidents by people riding WAY past their skill level, and moron drivers turning into my right of way?
If they want to sell more bikes, they need to do a few things. One, marketing. They're preaching to the choir in most cases, they need new riders. Two, reasonable pricing, especially to get those new riders. There will always be middle aged men and women willing to drop 20-30K on Harley, it's the lower end that needs attention. Three, if you're going to sell bikes in the US stop making them to fit Peter Dinklage as comfortably as possible. He's a good actor and seems like a decent dude, but he's not the median when it comes to the build of the target audience. I'm 6'3", and I know I'm tall, but I am NOT that far out of the bell curve in terms of height that sitting on any bike other than a super moto should put me into a full squat. For the love of god, please put an engineering hat on and come up with some stock adjustability for taller people. Four, put a bigger tank on the damn thing. I expect range limitation from crappy electric bikes, gas is ENERGY DENSE as hell, so please get an extra gallon or so on to the bike so we can RIDE. Five, address some basics that really should have been addressed a long time ago, like self canceling turn signals. How many bikes still have manual? This is not a challenge, and on a bike it's a major safety concern.
They've taken their eye off the ball. Harley thought they would never run out of dentists in their mid forties ready to drop 30K on a toy, and they may not, but they and all the other manufacturers keep making bikes with 100 miles of range and that are engineered for Peter Dinklage, adding 'safety' features of questionable value, and pumping up the prices such that the 'entry level' is beyond what most people who WANT to ride are willing to pay. Of course there's a slump, who wants to buy a bike they can't ride comfortably and that won't go very far even if they could, and that's loaded down with features that no one seems to really want? I have navigation on my phone, music on my phone, so give me a USB port and a mount and you can ditch 90% of the Buick sized fairing, AND take it off the damn price.

Energica went out of business and entered into liquidation sales back in October 2024. I purchased a lightly used 2024 Experia with a market value of USD 23,000. I was able to get it discounted to $17,000 USD. However, the financing interest rate was 13%. I went in knowing the risk of purchasing a defunct manufacturer brand and model. You should pay off the loan as quickly as possible to minimize the interest paid.

Expand your investigation. Environmentally motivated politics force manufacturers to make stupid decisions.
Since (in Europe) existing models are allowed, but new engines need to meet new limits, they choose to slap new plastic on existing bikes to replace older models that lost their cool. For instance the best tourer Honda had, the 1300ST Pan European was kept in production for a long, long time. Customers wanted to buy a new one, but it remained the same model. Those potential buyers left Honda, and looked elsewhere. In desperation they took the Africa Twin, cut off its balls and called it a tourer. All of a sudden the buyer was force fed the believe in a chain instead of a maintenance free driveshaft, a back seat the size of a postage stamp and a two-cylinder 1100CC thumper instead of a powerful V4 1300..
They call this "crimpflation" Pay more, get less.
And how about Suzuki. Seen any new models lately?
So it seems the bottom line is that sales are declining because we should buy shit like an electric Goldwing the size of a moped. Politics kills motorbike riding.

The economic crisis is being covered up with inflation, but it can't be hidden. Inflation is yet to come. The rich are even richer, but it's a small market, especially for motorcycles, most ordinary people have less money than they did ten years ago. A large part of motorcycling has become a luxury because it costs 5-6 times as much as a car, and in times of crisis, people first give up luxury items. In addition, cheap motorcycles "for transportation" are mostly made in China because price is the most important parameter. There is currently a 5-7% decrease in sales, but I believe that this will grow to 10-20%, possibly even more. Reduced demand means smaller series, which means higher prices per unit, which in turn reduces demand and it will be a closed loop.

Then requires a 2-4 hour charge lol.
That's worse than a bad joke.
      Back to what I said:
EV Motorcycles are NOT going to succeed in the USA generally - only in tiny urban enclaves.
We're not running out of Oil Reserves & there is no "Climate Crisis".
BUT if you can hang within their limitations & can afford to pay far more to have them, go for it.

@@psalm2forliberty577 I meant 400km a day. Not in one go. You do 200km, take a short break to charge. Ride another 100km. Take another short break to charge. In my experience doing 400km is easy to plan. I agree it depends on the region. In europe it is easy to plan a 400km trip. There are AC charger everywhere.
About cost: For me, and electric motorcycle is cheaper. I have free solar electricity and pay less tax. For me it is the cheaper option, not the more expensive one.

why would i buy an electric motorcycle when my e bicycle gets me round the inner-city faster? [checkout the latest Micheal Michael movie 'the killer'] with no number plate so no fines, 25p for a full charge equals a penny a mile and i can use dedicated cycle lanes, if you count e bicycles as motorcycles then the number taking up motorcycling is going up, 6 motorcycles in the garage when i want a ride to the coast
