Thanks Bill! I have years of experience with minelab PI 2100, 3000, and 4500, also gold bug 2. This machine is a different breed of cat. My older brother bought one and I took him to a place that I have hunted hard with the bug. Got a little familiar with it and found some gold quartz with it right out the gate! I told my younger brother about it and he had to have one, so he bought 2 and gave me one! Nice guy! Lol! (I have to pay for it). 2 days ago I broke the ice and found a match head nugget with it in an area that I have hammered! Not only do I see it's superior abilities but it also reinvigorated me to hit it hard! All this information is very helpful to learning this machine. That, along with 30 years experience is going to find me some gold! I'm going to a new place right now! I've known about it for years and finally secured permission to get in there. Gotta go right now!!!
Thanks Bill. I have been struggling with my GM1000 for the last 8 months since I bought it. There was no "real" instruction manual with it but after watching your video I can't wait to put into practice what you've shown me. You might want to keep an eye on "Keep Hammering". These blokes swear by the GM1000 and have the gold to prove it but yours is the best instructional video on this m/c that I've seen.
The biggest take away on this tutorial (which is outstanding) is to LEARN YOUR MACHINE. Use what works best in the area that YOU are working. And, it does not matter if you are gold shooting or relic/coin hunting. Thanks for the information.
I've never owned a metal detector, I'm just now doing my home work before buying one. I'm now leaning to the 1000, and narrowing by video search to just the 1000. After watching this video, I'm done looking, and going with the 1000. This one video saved me or took hours off my learning curve. For never owning one, all of this made perfect sense and done at a level that even a caveman could understand. Great job.
Hey Bill, I really appreciate the information. I’m taking a trip to your area in February for some detecting and prospecting and I joined the RRPC. Thanks again

I guess I just lucked out by buying the gold Monster 1000. Bought my first metal detector ever by walking into Miners Depot in Quartzsite maybe near you I'm not sure and asked for a decent machine for a first-timer for reasonable amount of money and they sold me the 1000. I watched this video when I got it and didn't really absorb the information used it a few weeks and just watch the video again now I understand what you're saying great video. Only thing I would add that I saw on an Australian video was when you're in Auto if you keep going over the gold same spot it'll Auto balance even the gold out.
Garrett AT Pro when you use auto tracking, it will do the exact same thing. I also own a Minelab 705 duo, which has the gold coil and an elliptical coil, it will also ground balance out good targets if you keep going over the same spot. Manufacturers these days try to make things easier and more "automatic" for new users, but it still all comes down to the same thing, proper ground balance for the conditions, and proper sensitivity settings. Walk that fine line, and you'll find what's in the ground.

I think the plastic coil cover might generate static electricity which could attract the black sand. Just a theory, no proof to back it up. Great video Bill, thanks.
Very good show you explained it well I think I’ve made my decision which one I’m a get for it but it’s gonna take me about nine months to save up but that’s just the way my like this and I’m having a damn good one keep the show is
Best introduction for new owners I've seen, thanks. The round coil is at times scratchy sounding on mine compared to the oval one- I have the cable wound snug and clipped in right as the assembly instructions say. Nothing is loose either and I've read in forums others have had this problem bad enough to send back for testing. Any news on this issue?
Try turning the volume down a bit, I have experienced this and found it was distortion. Not sure why it happens, but I know what you are talking about.
Thanks Bill for very informative video, best video ever seen on adjustment of device. And how you determine places for prospecting? God bless you! Thanks
hi nugget shooter in aust here looking a getting a monster soon thx for the info n clips . We have a local here using the monster on max 10 all metal and seems to have good success and realy seems to ground balance.
Have indeed tested all 3 and GM 1000 is more sensitive and will go deeper on larger targets in the couple areas we tried, sold my GB2 in favor of the Gold Monster and also there is no threshold to listen to
As usual great instruction video.. I have the Gold Monster and I also just picked up the Equinox 800. Do you have an instructional video on the 800? Thanks Dave...
Nice video now it may be too much for the layman but you might want to go over the volts and watt output as well ... your right you cant change the freq on a single frq vlf.. but .. imagine bumping it to 13.5 v like the white tdi fellas are doing
Have you ever used the Minelab X-Terra 705 for nugget hunting? I have the 705 which has the prospector mode on it, but I haven’t tried it yet for nugget hunting. My machine came with the stock 9” 7.5 kHz concentrical coil and the 10x5 18.75 kHz dd coil and I also have the 6” 7.5 kHz concentrical coil and the flying saucer as I call it the 15” 18.75 kHz dd coil, which I mainly use for beach hunting. Will the 15” flying saucer work just as fine or would I need to go smaller such as the 10x5 that came with my machine or would I need to get the 6” 18.75 kHz dd sniper coil? I know the three different frequencies the 705 uses but I like to stick with the 18.75 kHz over the 7.5 kHz or 3 kHz, I’m after the gold and not the silver which is why I use the 18.75 kHz coils. Thanks for the tutorial and I’m thinking about wanting to get the GM1000 over the Equinox 800 just because I heard that the GM1000 is the best one to get for beginners in nugget hunting.
I found the 705 to be noisy and hard to keep stable in the goldfields, but did find nuggets with it. I liked it well as a coin/relic detector as well, but the Equinox blows it out of the water as a dual purpose detector. Detectors are getting better and better as technology advances.
I bought a 705 when the first came out with the gold pack in 2010 I believe. What a waste of my hard earned money! It is useless in heavy mineralized soil.
Thank you Shooter for the informative video. I'm amazed that the smallest of foil can register as gold. This is an incredible machine. I'm so impressed by it I bought my wife one for our anniversary. I would like to know where to purchase the head covers. Nothing on the minelab website. Thank you, Daniel
thank you for you video, its cleared up a lot of questions and issues I had using this machine yesterday. The GM1000 was pretty much unusable for me yesteday in a very hot Australia ground; I wil put some of your tips into action next time I'm out. Now where is my tape.
Does the GPZ 7000 have the same problem of being to sensitive because I want to hunt deep deposits where others have already hunted but they hunted only shallow.
I am really curious about the difference between the Equinox 800 and the Gold Monster. Do they compare equitably in the goldfields? I am new to metal detecting.
This video is great as I just bought the gold monster 1000. In my back yard, I just did everything you showed in the video. My question is this. when I run the machine over my concrete slab which has rio reinforcement the screen says highly likely to be gold instead of iron. I am just wondering if this is normal? I also ran it over my iron plate BBQ and got the same reading. Do you have a video showing how to differentiate between gold and iron please?
NUGGET SHOOTER Cool ,I had a call from a farmer as he lost a plough tip and his m8 knows that I detect .I was told it was lost in a one acre field ,when I got there it was a 6 acre field !! Needle in a haystack !! Then he said it only cost £12 for a new one but hay ho I thought well might find some goodies on the way ,also it was 40 min drive to get there !! Met up with the farmer and he said I could have the rest of the 450 acre farm to detect when ever I want .then my battery ran out in my pointer ,I walked back to my van to get a new one .had a coffee and carried on .got half way into the field and I had forgot to change the battery so I got to the top of the field did a 180 and headed back to the van to go home and call it a day .got 30 foot from the hedge and BOOM massive signal on the CTX 1 foot down and there she was all shiny looking at me .could not believe it .the farmer is now trying to get me a 4500 acre manor estate to detect on and there s tons of history in the area 😉👍
Hi Bill...I just purchased a Gold Monster 1000 for me and my wife to get outside and have fun hunting on the beaches in Ensenada Baja California. My question is, should I use the 5 inch or he 10 inch coil when searching for treasures on the beach? Thank you.
Either one, I use the 5 inch for nugget hunting shallow stuff and am using a PI detector when looking in deeper ground. More ground coverage with the 10 inch coil at the beach would be better maybe?
Thank you for your videos . Needing a little advice . I used to live in California desert 25 years ago and hunted for gold , used an old gold master machine . I ended up moving to Kansas and could no longer hunt for gold . I’ve been so out of touch that I don’t have a clue on which detectors are best . I’m gearing up to move back that way , probably to Arizona. I want to get back into nugget hunting and wondering what would be the best machine to get in your opinion ? If it was you and you had $1500 bucks to get a machine and could only have one what would you choose ? I know that is a difficult question to answer but at least your answer would narrow things down for me . Thank you for your time .
You've got some really great and informative videos. I know this is for the GM 1000, but have you used the Whites Goldmaster 24k? I have one, my first detector ever, and could use some pointers. Not many vids for it but there seems to be a lot for the GM 1000. Thanks for all your knowledge. Greatly appreciated!
Hello Joseph and thanks for asking, I do not own a Whites 24K so can not do a video on it, but that being said most of what we talk about here is universal when it comes to detecting nuggets. The setting and detectors may be differently laid out, but they all need to be set up to handle the soil and keep stable to best hear targets. If I ever get my hands on a 24K I will do some videos on using it.

I will post them and have them in stock
@@NUGGETSHOOTER put 2 aside for us. If you can get different colors in stock that would be great. Thank you.
Under water (fresh) as minenlab says (1"foot) with or without tape?
No matter if you are talking about taping the coil
thanks mate, very interesting!
Glad you liked it!
thank you for you video, its cleared up a lot of questions and issues I had using this machine yesterday. The GM1000 was pretty much unusable for me yesteday in a very hot Australia ground; I wil put some of your tips into action next time I'm out. Now where is my tape.
If auto GB will not work try Manual (when center not black) at around 6 and work your way up as long as stable. GH
The Equinox 800 works very well in the goldfields, but the Gold Monster 1000 has an edge on it in sensitivity for sure.
This is a really good video. Thanks very much. I imagine what it would be like to use a DD 18 inch coil on GM1000. Is that possible?
Anyway thanks for steering me though the misinformation.
Great video
What happens if you ground balance and there happens to be a nugget under the coil ,will it elm it out ?
No not even a tiny one, it will lessen the signal at first, but as soon as you swing back over it the target is loud and clear.
Great tips!
Good info,thanks
Hi Bill...I just purchased a Gold Monster 1000 for me and my wife to get outside and have fun hunting on the beaches in Ensenada Baja California. My question is, should I use the 5 inch or he 10 inch coil when searching for treasures on the beach? Thank you.
Either one, I use the 5 inch for nugget hunting shallow stuff and am using a PI detector when looking in deeper ground. More ground coverage with the 10 inch coil at the beach would be better maybe?
Thanks. Either way I am anxiously looking forward to seeing what lies beneath the surface and what treasures abound. Buena Suerte! 🤞⛏⚒
Minelab should bring you to Australia and do their instructional for them.....
Thanks for the kind words David and thanks for watching.
Minelab Gold Monster 1000, I have them for 849.00 and free shipping
Don’t have a detector but nice job 👍🏼
Any recommendations for hunting for large nuggets using the 5" coil.
move low and slow, a VLF detector will not go as deep as a PI though
Is that electrical tap you put on coil? Where can I order from?
Anywhere that sells hardware will have it, just plastic tape.
