On a budget going in as an apprentice low voltage electrician I bought this and the dcf885 impact combo with the same batteries and charger. I definitely put the drill through it’s paces, far exceeding its intended use it often outworked the batteries. I used this drill professionally for 3 1/2 years before just recently upgrading to the dcd886 powerhouse and while it’s night and day difference to me the dcd771 still has a place in the man cave now being my home use drill.
Wow nice I hope it is still going. I've bought a ryobi drill that lasted 3 uses before 😆
i just bought it today and I like it, power is great and I'm looking forward getting equipped with dewalt brushless tools in the future so the batteries will still be compatible

Very nice review. I just bought one today for 135eur (I live in Finland). I was amazed how well balanced this is and how solid it feels. The lack of rubber bumbers on the sides is a shame, but this is for my diy projects, so im sure it'll survive.

Sadly, now that I've used it for a while, I've noticed that the chuck wobbles a little bit. It's going back to the store; hopefully I'll be given a new one.

Tsc has the drill driver DCD771/ DCF885 impact driver kit for 179.99 i picked one up my self and the manual didn't have much too say about either drill. i found this review helpfull and appreciate it now i know a little more lol

ya i checked it out good vid, also how long is the run time on that 1.3 ah batteries, and are the 4.0 rx ah batteries compatible with all 20 volts ?
I didn't do runtime tests on that drill and battery. It's hard to do those as there's too many variables but I will say this, battery runtimes are proportional to their size. A 3.0 battery will provide double the runtime of a 1.5 and a 4.0 will give you 33% more than a 3.0 , A 1.3 will be slightly less than a 1.5 ah. Hope I didn't get too confusing. And yes all 20v max dewalt batteries are compatible with all dewalt 20v max tools.

hay jav I used it pro and b 4 they had this all nicad batt. had 1 hr charge and like 1 hr. than 3 to all night 2 charge as did some black + decker with the skinny cord charger even though they were home drills

hey ese watch out some of my friends say the chuck comes loose u think it ratchets but on speed 1 it holds but on speed 2 it does come loose after a while bits fall out on their own so watch it compas
So this is my very 1st drill I was super excited.. until I turned it on and seen sparks😬 is this normal? Should I worry? I’m nervous.
small sparks coming from the motor vents are normal on some power tools but I really couldn't say if yours are normal unless I saw the sparks
I am a beginner do it yourself, when drilling a 3 inch wood screw in a 2 by 4 deck wood, i had the speed set at 1 and the torque at 16 and it act like like it couldnt finish and kept cutting off. i just thought i bought a cheap drill. should i adjust my settings but to what?
It's not defective because the torque limiting collar settings are just that, they limit torque. It's a clutch that stops the screw at any given torque setting and is supposed to be used when you want to set screw heads flush with the surface. I'd advise you to go with a higher torque setting on the collar or just set the drill to the drill icon on the collar which gives it full torque. You can also set small wood screws faster in the speed 2 setting.
i thought using setting 1 (less speed more torque) and using different torque settings with the clutch was for screwing in screws and setting 2 (more speed less torque) and the clutch set to drill icon (speed) was for drilling holes , you're saying the drill icon is more torque and can be used for screwing in screws ?
drill mode is not "more torque" it's full torque
First speed is actually low speed high torque
2nd speed is fast speed less torque
You can drive screws with the drill mode, for example lag screws can only be driven in the "drill" mode because they need full torque to be driven

Just picked this up at Lowes for $99. This is my first Dewalt, after many years of Makita use. First impressions were good, but I've noticed that when I release the trigger, the drill makes a loud grinding noise at times. Does this sound like something normal? Or did I get a bum unit?

Jeff what did you find out? I picked one up too and noticed a noise when in drill position and on #2 speed when I let go of the trigger it makes a noise that could be that electric brake. I took it back and they told me it was suppose to make that noise. I put my battery on one of their demos at the store and it made the same sound. Let me know what you find out thanks!
mark kolisz sounds like the electric brake, thats normal
mark kolisz Lowes told me the same exact thing, probably normal. Hardly ever hear it in normal use since I'm on #1 mode the majority of the time. And I figure even when I'm using #2 mode, the resistance of whatever I'm drilling will assist the brake anyway whenever I release the trigger.
I'm a satisfied user, it makes my Makita look like a Harbor Freight.lol

Jeff Sampayan Thanks Jeff, Ya I noticed that too when actually drilling on #2 it doesn't do it only when I pull the trigger and there's no resistance. ToolCrazy says it's normal that it's an electric brake, and that makes sense. And same thing here the DeWALT replaces a Makita and so far blows it away!

Not Happy with it at all hardly have used it since I bought it. Tried cycling it with the batteries while installing ventilated shelving. It just up and quit working on me while drilling holes for wall anchors for the topper rail. It was only 5/8 drywall and maybe 15 pilot holes to guide my electric with its larger bit. Oh the light works fine the drill itself Pfft.
I dont like the light. it kills the battery. or it feels like it does because I could be lightly using it and it dies in 20 minutes. kind of disappointed
