    i worked at an automotive supplier selling acoustic packages to all car manufacturers. And I can tell you it costs really nothing to make a car quiet but the car makers think differently.
    The higher the price the quieter the car (as a rule of thumb). It is a marketing strategy from car makers to push customers to buy more expensive models.
    If your EQA would have the same sound package as an EQC, many EQC potential customers would buy an EQA and Mercedes would loose potential profit.
    ALL car makers are doing it. ALL ! Why wouldn't they ?
    Also it is difficult to retrofit an existing vehicule because you would have to dismantle the whole interior and it would costs too much for the benefit.
    Moreover electric cars have a lot of advantages regarding noise compared to their ICE counterparts but they have still some disavantages:
    - the ICE or Motor used to cover a lot of noise like road noise that you now notice more in EVs
    - many EVs have a glass roof which is terrible for noise when compared to a standard steel roof with a headliner
    - noise in EVs comes a lot from the back/trunk where the sound treatment is usually poor
    - non porous seats like leather or fake leather do not absorb so well noise.
    So the ideal car when it comes to noise level is:
    - an EV
    - without glass roof
    - with a nice acoustic package in the trunk
    - has textile seats
    of course it is more complex that this but i think this summary gives a few elements to further explore the topic.

      It is actually not too expensive to improve sound dethening. Work is very simple, with hardly any tools required (small woden roller is nice and saves your thumbs and fingers). Materials are also relatively inexpensive. Have done couple of cars myself. Longest time is for dismantling interior panels. Removing interior is also easier than one thinks. You only require plastic trim removal tools (10€) and standard torx/phillips screw drivers. There are good instruction videos and websites available if you are willing to invest your own time. Or you can pay 1000€ for a specialist. A good investment for drive confort. And best of all, standard sound system sound quality improves a lot with sound dethening.

    15:30 Always loved Norway for having plenty of their own stuff like chocolates, even juices. Even when Freia is owned by Kraft Food if I recall correctly - it still has those traditional chocolates. That makes visiting Norge more special, especially these days when almost every country has the same brands.
    I still remember Bergbys burgers in Porsgrunn as probably best burgers I have tasted.
    God I miss this country, hope to be back for a road trip once Covid is over.

    Can we get stromberg in Australia?

  • @peeble99
    @peeble99 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What tyres did it use? I know it was a Bridgestone Alenza, but there are several versions of this tyre, at least here in Australia. The Alenza A001 is a particularly hard riding and noisy tyre with exceptionally good wear characteristics. The Alenza HL/33 is brilliantly quiet tyre, perhaps not up with the Michelin Primacy 4, but similar. However, you guys in Europe may get a totally different selection. A cold day in Oz is 6 degrees and a hot day 45, and we do not have snow except if you drive to the mountains in winter. Cheers

    Bjorn, Why don’t you have stats in this spreadsheet for E Niro? It will be very interesting to see the 3 year old design Korean car comparison with these ‘latest’ German cars in the same summer conditions. The only advantage the latest German ‘family’ cars, including the ‘pure EV design’ VAG models, is charging speed. The efficiency is worse than the Koreans meaning also shorter range per kWh. This shows further evidence of the complacency of the legacy European makers. Also, the emphasis of the 1,000 km challenge on charging speed is irrelevant to the majority of EV owners when these longer journeys are likely to be only a handful of occasions each year. In the UK the average car journey distance of 8.4miles (c.13.4km) is the same for the last nearly 20 years.

      @ellistreloar2047 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bjornnyland Thanks, yes, but the Kona results are for winter temperatures and give a poor comparison with their summer performance which you have acknowledged is second only to Tesla. Do you agree that the latest German EV engineering, except fast charging, has not advanced over these much older Korean cars? I'm really disappointed as I'd prefer to 'buy local' and have had good experiences with the German branded fossil cars in the past, especially BMW.

      @ChuckJ1944 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ouch1011 Kevin: The important element in my mind which this 1000 km challenge looks at is the combination of efficiency and charge rate. People have now figured out the best way to do a road trip is charge until it starts to taper big then drive until 5%. Norwegian borders are closed to all non-citizens, with rare exceptions and Norwegian citizens are only allowed to travel to a certain number of countries. Sweden isn't one of them, meaning Bjorn would have to quarantine for at least 5 days upon return. There's hardly any way around that since the controls are pretty much systematic and 24/7 on all the land borders.

    1. EV life has potential of being quite unhealthy - eating every second hour...
    2. Only a real EV enthusiast can feel there's not enough standstill time when charging his/her vehicle...

      Avtually, eating small healthy meals/snacs in short interval is healthier than one or two large meals per day. Provided you eat healthy food as Bjorn seems to do (mostly). Short intervals keeps your insuline levels low and more steady compared to eating two huge meals on 6 hour intervals. Insuline regulates fat accumulation in your body. Hence regular eating is healthy choise.

    And to think, 1000 km is not even a challenge for traditional gasoline vehicles.

      The challenge was to show fossilheads that EVs can do 1000 km in a very convenient way just like fossil cars.

      Thousand kilometers is too much of a challenge to my body in any car. I tend to take three stops in 600km trip in an ICE car anyhow. My back needs stretching, my brain and body needs coffee and stomach needs food. I am much more relaxed on arrival when taking lot of breaks from driving.
